Re: What Have You Just Received?
I received the US BD of The Bird with the Crystal Plumage today, but I can't make up my mind which language to watch it in. IMDb and Wikipedia say its original language is Italian, but as far as I'm aware, Dario Argento films are usually watched in English due to the films being dubbed in English for the international market and dubbed into Italian for its homeland. It's just annoying because with HK films you know you should watch them in Cantonese/Mandarin but with this it seems less clear cut.
Any advice would be great cheers.

Re: What have you just ordered?
It's BD MR and Panasonic what do you expect? Panasonic kit always costs more and BD MR always comes at a premium. Sure there's that Tevion Mark has but there's no doubt the Panasonic Grim has is a significantly better player, not wanting to belittle the Tevion.Yi-Long wrote:Seems quite expensive.
£345 isn't expensive at all for such kit. I've owned cheap DVD Players and expensive ones and the quality difference is always very noticeable. We all agree sports cars are better than your average car, so why not BD Players too?
I'd never but sub £200 AV kit now. I've seen how much more you can get and couldn't go back to "merely good".
Of course but a PC is not a BD Player and a BD Player isn't a PC. There's no way I'd ever use a PC to play movies. No matter how easy they make it it's never as easy as simply putting a disc in and pressing Play. PCs are messy as hell for playing movies. Unless you know what kit to buy the quality will likely be noticeably less too.Yi-Long wrote:Aren't there any free tools to make BR-players in laptops/PC's region-free!? Cause maybe you'd be better off just buying a BR-player for your PC/laptop and 'fixing' that.
Not everyone plays Games Yi. I'd never buy a PS3 because to me I'd only use it's BD capabilities and it's then a waste to buy a PS3. The time of the PS3 being the best BD Player is gone, today's BD Players can easily compete. In some ways they surpass the PS3.Yi-Long wrote:For that kinda money you can buy yourself a PS3 and a bunch of games.
Grim has a fantastic BD Player, there's no doubt about that, at a fair price. If I were to buy a BD Player today I'd get virtually the same model. I'd get the next model up (only £50 more), no contest. Panasonic make the best BD Players in the world, along with the PS3 obviously.

Re: What have you just ordered?
Face/Off Special Edition USA HD-DVD for just under £6 from eBay.
I've held off getting this, as I wanted the USA BD but after nearly 18 months of release it's still expensive at around £15 and disc contents are identical (although it's 2 discs vs. 1 disc on the BD). This will probably be my last HD-DVD purchase.

Re: What have you just ordered?
I'm not buying them but I was looking through my BD list and Face/Off was the only one that also had a HD-DVD. I held off buying the BD as ideally I want that too but it is three times the price for the same content. My Player is also a Combo remember so no need to hold on to a separate player.
Long time I'll probably have to get rid of the HD-DVDs but literally one more isn't going to be a problem. £4 doh! Oh well, too late now.

Re: What Have You Just Received?
Indeed. I've just heard stuff sometimes about screen size and VISIBLE SCREEN SIZE being different, but maybe that was more back in the old CRT days.

Re: What Have You Just Received?
LCD & plasma screens are measured by visible size, not like CRTs which were measured by tube size.
