The FullHDTV's will obviously be great for Blu-ray and gaming/PC, but I'm afraid my DVD's will look horrible on it.

The HD-ready would probably look pretty sweet for gaming and DVD's and normal TV, but obviously you won't really get the most out of Blu-Ray, games, and connecting a PC to it...

Who told you DVDs look bad on 1080p TVs?

I thought stretching out an SD-signal like DVD on a Full HD screen would negatively impact the quality of the image...
Wouldn't a heady-ready TV do a better job with DVD's and SD-material!?

Anyway, booted up the PC tonight (yay it works(!) ), and it's always just annoying to first waste hours on deleting all the pre-installed bullshit that comes with it, plus right now it's been downloading and installing 62(!!!) updates for Vista (for fuck's sake)...

Also noticed that those idiots once again screwed something up, cause it doesn't seem to recognize the 2nd HDD of 500GB.
Usually, the PC showed that it had 1TB in HDD space, and now it only shows 470GB or something...

In the hardware list it DOES show the 2nd 500GB disc btw, so I will try to figure out how to solve that after Vista is done with all the updates.

Will run a few memory-checks before I install anything else though, cause I really can't be bothered going through all the same shit again, only to shit out on me again due to RAM-failure or whatever.

I really should just learn to build my own PC's, so I don't have to rely on all those other idiots again.

As long as the screen and dvd player are good and not some £10 cheapo player Standard dvds look quality. I fooled a fair few people in showing them old dvds and they thought they were HD the only dvds that will look horrible, are horrible transfers

Well that is debatable, I have seen many 720 screen's that looked dire compared to my Full HD screen when playing SDVD. Swings and round abouts really.

Well I've never actually watched a 720p screen before, but obviously technically the further you stretch an image, the more it's going to degrade in quality. Therefore, watching SD on a 1080p screen should be worse quality than on a 720p screen, however negligible it may be (and also depends on your viewing distance).

Tech has advanced so much since 720 screens were the norm a few years back that a quality upscaller does just that, a quality upscale job and you would be hard pushed to ever spot any difference of what screen you were looking at with the tech of today surley. Still I have rarley even seen many screens of 720 or 1080 that sucked at standard dvds, well apart from the ones in shops set up badly.

Seen hundreds of vastly expensive set up's over the last 2 years, and my standards are as high as they get you must just not have seen a recent 1080 screen or upscaller in a very long time.

Just a quick update on the PC i received back from repair:

- 1 DVD-ROM drive is missing (as in, it's in my PC, but PC won't 'see' it.
- 1 500 GB HDD is missing (as in, once again, it's in my PC, but PC won't see it...

So I called up customer support again, pretty angry, and he kinda walked me through all the BS, like going into the bios and out again and changing some settings, etc etc etc...

...and yeah, he gave me the advice to reset the bios to it's original settings...

...so I did....

... and now I can only boot up Windows with a CD in the drive(!) Geez, thanks guy(!)

Anyway, basically he told me to re-install the whole PC again and then call back for another (5th) repairjob.

So now I'm browsing online for some cheap sawn-off shotguns and lots of ammo...

Enough to get HD Ready over Full HD? Most would disagree with that. You're hardly like to want two TVs. So go 1080p and if you actually notice the problems you describe, to bad. I take your point but when it comes to deciding you'd be dumb to get HD Ready over Full HD IMO.

AFAIK there is no such thing as a 720p TV. Pretty much all HD Ready TVs aspect ratio is 1368x768 and they're suited to 1080i just as much as they are 720p.

Purely because I cannot notice any difference ever I set all my BD Player to 1080i. It's at least sent out at the correct aspect ratio then and my TV does the downscaling.

Therefore, watching SD on a 1080p screen should be worse quality than on a 720p screen, however negligible it may be (and also depends on your viewing distance).

I'd wager very negligible, certainly not enough to want to own two TVs.

It's a Medion btw. I heard good thing about Medion and their support, and TBH, their telephone-helpdesk IS fast and the people are pretty helpfull and polite, but I guess it just all fails when it comes to the hardware and their technical support once they have to fix it.

Anyway, he would report to the complaints-department that I am not happy, so maybe they'll contact me or something about that.

Will have to call them again tomorrow to tell them to either come pick it up, or send a guy over. I'm thinking of also sending off an angry email to them about my disappointment with all this BS, but will see how tomorrow goes.

Will probably buy a new PC once Windows 7 gets released. The Medion is pretty decent, specs-wise, but I can't depend on it.

Well, the Pana G10 seems to be having a bunch of problems (the 24p problem, vertical lines with movement, a bit of judder, the EU version lacking some adjustment-options, etc etc), so if I would buy a FullHD plasma right now, I'm thinking I would go for the new Samsung PN50650B, which supposedly doesnt have the deep blacks as Pana (but still very good), but better colour, better movement, and it's cheaper.

Although TBH I'm considering going for HD-ready (X10) for now, which should still be great for Xbox360 and PS3, and perhaps buy a FullHD plasma next year, so I'll have both (one for the bedroom, one for the livingroom).

It's hard making choices (which is probably why it's already taken me over a year orso...)

Whats wrong with your G10 Yi? I have the Panny G10 LCD (32" model) and I'm still seeing what it does, its working well IMO I don't see the point on switching 24p/full 100Hz on when watching NTSC animation (isnt it only suitable for BD movies)?

Grim, 24p only works with BD. It's clever enough to know you have a DVD in it. I've told you about half a dozen times! .

Surely the HD Ready sets being better for SD only applies to "identical models" (except not being 1080p obviously). Your Plasma may end up being a much better TV, so still handle SD better.

Well one problem with a HD Ready screen is you are downscalling full HD down to 720 (or as Brad says maybe 768), which brings its own problems on some sets and equipment. Still as long as you read up on a screen you will know exactly what you are getting before hand, as you seem to be.
