Correct. Scope is original aspect ratio.

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
How interesting, thanks Mark. Maybe it's just cut in the cinema and/or we'll get:
1. 1 Disc DVD of the International Cut for average Joe/Rental
2. 2 Disc BD for Collector's + maybe DVD too
I smell multiple releases. That is good though. I cannot stand EIV but the HK BDs cost so much. I don't care about horse falls cuts.

Once Upon A Time In China is,as those screenshots suggest, horrendous.everyone looks like something out of Madam Tussauds, the image is weak and it looks pinkified.Horrible.

And to think you were joking when you said it gets worse as the newer they get and OUATIC would be the worst!saltysam wrote:Once Upon A Time In China is,as those screenshots suggest, horrendous.everyone looks like something out of Madam Tussauds, the image is weak and it looks pinkified.Horrible.
It sounds like with this one, the DVDs are better right? Which means the IVL box set.

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
I wonder why Police Story (supposedly) and OUATIC look so bad? I was really looking forward to getting them on BD

Re. OUATIC. I'll be keeping my R3 DVD which offers good picture and original mono at least.

Thanks. I wonder which cut. Any idea? How is your American BD Salty?
I may get this. It should have Chinese in Lossless audio this time.

Thanks. I hate it when they just put "DTS 5.1", we all know that could mean: DTS, DTS-HD HR or DTS-HD MA. I'm guessing DTS-HD HR or MA for all audio tracks. Probably HR given it has 3 tracks.

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
Oh my God, Third Window Films have announced a Blu-ray, they released this film non-anamorphic on DVD only recently so God knows how this is going to turn out.
http://www.asianblurayguide.com/news/43 ... uary_2010/Kamikaze Girls will attack in February 2010
Nippon Cinema reports that Third Window Films will release its first Blu-ray Disc in February 2010 and that the British independent label has chosen Tetsuya Nakashima's 2004 GothiklolitaBikergirlComedyDramaThingy Kamikaze Girls starring Kyoko Fukada and Anna Tsuchiya as the first high definition title.
Planned release date is February 8, 2010, the Blu-ray Disc will include the original Japanese audio and English subtitles. Features are tba, but I guess TWF has lots of extra material since Kamikaze Girls will be released as a two disc special edition on the same day.

Shingster's IP MAN (UK) review:
http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/CapsuleReview ... /10#p71670
Shing: Concerned a bit about the colour tampering. Is this Cine Asia release inferior to the HK BD overall? I mean in direct comparison which would you go for?

Re: Asian Movies in HD!
TBH Mark I can't say for absolute certain as I haven't seen the HK disc and was basing my comments on the screengrabs over at AsianBluRayGuide, which I assume are accurate. I'm very busy this weekend with a DVDTimes comparison review of Night of the Living Dead (Upcoming Network BD) and arrangements made with friends that are going to keep me out the house for most of Sunday, but when I've cleared that review I will post some grabs from the UK Ip Man that match those over at AsianBluRayGuide.
I did take one grab earlier that you can match to the HK over at AsianBluRayGuide here. I think most people will find the HK grab far more appealing, but there is a chance that the HK disc is over-saturated as other grabs I've seen definitely look very vivid colour-wise. There's also the fact that HK Blu-rays have a tendency to look colour boosted.

I was gonna see IP Man in the cinema this month, once again they did not release it, apart from a single cinema in London icon_suspect much like Ong Bak 2 and District 13 Ultimatum.

I was supposed to be interviewing Yip, Yen and Hung this month, but after informing us that interview slots were available and we expressing interest they never got back to us! Something that happens all too often!

That must be a real pain in the bum! very poor service (if you can even call it that) from them.

Judging by those two caps it's tough to say which colours/tones are "correct".
I'll reserve judgement until we see more caps - thanks Shing.

The HK BD does look better but like you say Shing it could be colour boosted. Both look nice and sharp. I suspect I'd be happy with either one and it's likely the UK BD will be much cheaper.

DVD Beaver has compared the HKL of OUATIC with the slightly terrible Fortune Star BD: http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRevie ... lu-ray.htm
