You're the Devil.

One of the most talented actors Japan has to offer? Complete lunacy! There are loads of absolutely fantastic character actors and stars in Japan, Odagiri is a prettyboy with moderate acting talent at best. That's an opinion from a J-film nut who doesn't mind Odagiri at all btw, certainly don't share Lourdes' hate!

Re: What Have You Just Received?
Just received my new PC from Medion.
Seems pretty simular to my last PC, but with a different quad-core processor (Instead of the Q6600, it's now a Q8200... which I assume is slightly better...)
Also a different graphics-card: I had the Nvidea 8800GT, and now it's a 9600GT. Not sure if that's better.
Apart from that, it's pretty much got the same specs: 1000GB HDD, 4 GB memory, and Windows Vista. Included in the package is the 64 bit Vista, but the 32 bits Vista is pre-installed.
Will open it up and check it all out probably later today, or maybe tonight. Not sure yet if I'll do a clean install and throw on Vista 64 bit, or go with the 32 bit pre-installed version (kinda scared the discs don't work properly and I mess it all up somehow, plus I first want to check out the PC and if it's running properly without any problems, before I start tampering with it...
Glad to see that they seemingly have sent me a PC of (at least) equal quality. They SHOULD, obviously, but not every company does what it should.

Re: What have you just ordered?
Seen any of the films? There should be an old HK disc for Tokyo Lullaby.
Haven't seen any of them myself. I'm hoping for the best, but for some reason I'm prepared for disappointment as well. I've only seen Ichikawa movies from the 2000's, loved them all, but I don't know what his older movies are like.
But I couldn't pass the box set because it's limited to 2000 copies and comes with a bonus disc that is supposed to have shitloads of old TV commercials directed by Ichikawa.

I've got Tsugumi and Tokyo Lullaby, both very good films and I'm particularly enamoured with the former. Both crappy r3HK Panorama efforts. My memory of Tokyo Lullaby is a little hazy as I haven't seen it in a few years now but I'm pretty confident you'll really like Tsugumi.

Re: What Have You Just Received?
Just bought GTA4: Episodes of Liberty City this afternoon, for 25 euro. Nice price. Haven't tried the game yet, but loved GTA4.
Also 'got' GTA Chinatown Wars for my PSP, played it a bit in the train today, and seems OK, but nothing really all that special yet. I'm not really a handheld-gamer, apart from Tetris and Everybody's Golf 2.
Ow yeah, last week was my birthday, and my girlfriend's sister gave me some electric shaver for my hair. Her parents gave me 50 bucks. Strangely enough, I havent received anything from my own mother yet... which might be her way of telling me to get the fuck out of her house

Re: What Have You Just Received?
Takuhaibin just brought me a ton of Toei dvds from amazon. I really can't afford these (read: onigiri for the next three weeks) but I couldn't miss amazon's pre-order prices... Toei's discs are normally 4750 yen (4500 without tax), but now when I combine Toei's low price campagn (3150 / 3000 yen) and amazon's pre-order discount it came down to 2331 yen per disc. And free delivery of course.
Sorry for the poor dejikame pics. Life without scanner sucks.

That is Yusaku Matsuda x 4 (No Grave for Us, The Most Dangerous Game, Satsujin yugi and Shokei yugi) plus the first New Battles Without Honor and Humanity and the third Theatre of Life film (Paul Schrader calls this one of the best ninkyo yakuza movies ever made)

Re: What Have You Just Received?
Hey Hung..... how will you be able to take all those cool DVD's back home, once you're finished in Japan? Even apart from the weight-issue, which might add up after a year of buying DVD's and more... are you also expected to pay import-tax and such over these products once you return home?

Re: What Have You Just Received?
I can bring about 400€ worth of stuff tax free. I believe I could bring everything that I have owned for more than one year for free of tax, but in this case that's not gonna be the case.
I'll spend the christmas holidays in Finland, so I can drag the first pile home then. After that I will be mailing dvds to my dad. Just the disc and the cover. Throw the amaray cases away and buy new ones in Finland.
EDIT: last minute pre-caution at the customs: make a scratch in every dvd, and claim they are cheap second hand stuff

I wouldnt scratch the discs myself if I were you, but hey, that's up to you...
Is there any stuff you're still eyeing to buy there!?
And how are the prices? Comparable to europe, or more expensive for movies and cheaper for games and consoles?

Re: What Have You Just Received?
There's tons of stuff to buy here. I mean, Toei is releasing new dvds every month
There's a couple of box sets that I will try to hunt down. These are the ones you really want to buy cheaply and bring with you, rather than import for full price and pay every fucker at the customs and beyond.
But you know the Japanese dvd prices...
...however, it is much cheaper when you're actually located in Japan as in compared to importing. You get free delivery, and you can use the cheap stores and buy second hand stuff. The International sites like yesasia and cdjapan are actually the most expensive R2J retailers out there.
I'm not really an expert with electronics, but the prices should be slightly lower here than in Europe.
Restaurants are quite affordable here. You can get a good meal for 4 euro, and if you throw in a couple of euro more you'll find yourself in steakhouse where they carry the boiling beefs (yes, still boiling when it's placed in front of you) and several types of decicious sauces to your table. In Finland fast food restaurants charge you the same.
The food in stores is the same price level as Finland (and no, Finland isn't the cheapest country in Europe).
I'll be staying in Tokyo for a few days before my flight to Finland. The hotel is 50€ per night (smoking rooms are cheaper). It's a small room, but it's nice and clean, with air conditioning, fridge, widescreen TV, bath, internet connection etc. And great location; 10 minute walk from the Shinjuku Station.
So, this is not a cheap country, but with a bit of common sense you won't really be spending more money here than in most European countries. Depends on where you come from. The Chinese students are terrified by the price levels, but all Europeans are like "yeah, it's about the same as home".
The Christmas vacation was not planned, but because it's cheaper to buy a two way ticket than one way ticket. I couldn't reserve the final return flight so early, so I would have ended up buying 2 two-way tickets anyway. Might as well use them.
