Chocolate can be kind of addictive because it does contain chemicals related to drugs:
Chocolate contains a variety of substances, some of which have an effect on body chemistry. These include:
Sugar
Theobromine, the primary alkaloid in cocoa and chocolate and partly responsible for chocolate's mood-elevating effect
Tryptophan, an essential amino acid and precursor to serotonin
Phenethylamine, an endogenous alkaloid sometimes described as a 'love chemical, it is quickly metabolized by monoamine oxidase-B and does not reach the brain in significant amounts
Caffeine, present in smaller amounts
Chocolate is a mild stimulant to humans mainly due to the presence of theobromine. It is much more potent for horses, and its use in horse racing is prohibited.

And here's a report from a drug expert on alcohol being worse than ecstasy: http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2009 ... eform-call

Doesn't mean he's wrong, as I've mentioned before, the scientists on Horizon even said the same thing. He'll only have been sacked because the facts don't support what the government wants us to believe.

Name one that isn't.
Beer is only 4-5 percent but to counter act your argument the legally bought Absinth could've killed me recently.
Only a total arse would drink absinthe. I would agree that it's a very dangerous (and thankfully very uncommon) drink. When I talk about alcohol you can assume I'm referring to anything between the standard 5% and 40%.
I'm amazed Absinth is legal.
It probably shouldn't be.
From my experience Absinth is far more deadly than MDMA and the small amount of Cocaine I've tried.
That's hardly sufficient medical evidence. One line of cocaine can increase your heart rate to a fatal level.
Obviously Cocaine can kill, but so can alcohol.
Yes, but as I've said MANY times you have to abuse alcohol (absinthe excepted).
Gas's point is right though, people don't consider alcohol (or nicotine) to be a drug.
It is and they're wrong.

WTF! I'm mentally feeble "because I've got drunk". Are you for real?
No, you're an imbecile for mocking Yi-Long for never having been drunk. If you want to be an irresponsible, out-of-control sheep, that's your business, but don't piss-take Yi-Long or anyone else for being smart enough to avoid it. I've taken alcohol since I was 18 and never once been drunk.
It's just unusual for anyone to never have been drunk, even once.
And what does that say about society?
You and Romero are so fucking sanctimonious at times. Sorry Jesus.
I just don't like your attitude.

TBH, I wasn't feeling mocked by Brad, although it's touching that Mark has my back (and tbh, quite scary, with all the disccusion lately about assfucking...)

I can understand what Brad means with his surprise that I've never been drunk. I'm pretty sure I'm in a minority here in the west, with never having been drunk.

Closest I ever got was drinking about 10 beers orso at a schoolparty (which was held at a local 'disco'), but maybe they watered down the beers. Anyway, I didn't feel drunk at all, nor anything else for that matter. I had no problems at all, and afterwards I just rode my bike back home.

But like I said, I never liked the taste of beer/alcohol (still don't), and so I quickly decided I wouldn't waste my money/time on it. Plus I have no need whatsoever to get drunk. Also, at the time I was more and more into martial arts, so I didn't want alcohol to affect my m.a. abilities either.

I guess, apart from chocolate, I don't really have an addictive nature, nor a need to 'explore' stuff that don't seem very smart, tasty or interesting to me. Will I ever get drunk? Maybe. I don't know my life will pan out. Maybe one day when I'm broken down and all alone, I might feel a need for 'comfort', and maybe there will be a bottle of booze. I honestly don't know.

For now, I have the occasional beer and zip of red wine for health-benefits only, and TBH, I still hate the taste.

Yeah, maybe. But when it comes to fruit, it's a bit expensive and too much of a hassle to buy it regularly, so if I can have the same effect with a glass of beer and/or a small glass of wine, I'll just take that cheaper and easier option.

Though there is something about attractive women smoking that looks glamourous and rather alluring (I answered my own question).
I've got drunk a few times AFAIK but don't really set out to get drunk, I hate the hungover feeling the next day :(

The best thing to do is drink plenty of water when you get in after a night of drinking, it's really effective at preventing hangovers I find.

And yeah, David Lynch also seems to do the hot women smoking thing well in his films.

In real life? I agree. It isn't sexy.

In a WKW movie? Yeah it is! :D (although TBH, Leslie and Tony are wayyyyy sexier when smoking than any woman could ever be! )

Definitely. The whole thing stank.
Markgway wrote:Name one that isn't.
MDMA (I believe a derivative of Ecstasy), Marijuana. Not because both cannot do you damage but there is sufficient evidence to show they're no more harmful than alcohol, except obviously when taken to excess and of course I don't mean a single pint here.
Markgway wrote:Only a total arse would drink absinthe. I would agree that it's a very dangerous (and thankfully very uncommon) drink. When I talk about alcohol you can assume I'm referring to anything between the standard 5% and 40%.
I sure as hell won't be trying it again but it's still A: Legal and B: It's damaging ingredient is just alcohol but point taken.
Markgway wrote:It probably shouldn't be.
Not when lesser drugs are illegal.
Markgway wrote:That's hardly sufficient medical evidence.
I never said it was.

Re-read what I said. I was doing none of those things. It doesn't change the fact it's very unusual. I'm no out of control sheep, I chose to try alcohol/drugs and the ones that have done nothing for me I've not done again.
Markgway wrote:And what does that say about society?
Alcohol isn't evil, yes British people rely on it too much but it is inherently evil.
Markgway wrote:I just don't like your attitude.
Ditto.

As someone who doesn't drink, I'd guess you were drunker than you realised. It's impossible to not have any effect from 10 beers, unless you weigh a tonne. I'm surprised you felt no effects from that amount of alcohol but fair enough.
Yi-Long wrote:But like I said, I never liked the taste of beer/alcohol (still don't), and so I quickly decided I wouldn't waste my money/time on it.
Fair enough. I have friends who equally dislike it but only do it to get drunk, that I don't understand. I like the taste of beer/wine etc... Are there no alcoholic drinks you like? I find that weird as there are so many different types, that taste wildly different. I don't equally get alcho-pops, if it tastes like orange juice/coke. Why not just buy orange juice/coke?
Yi-Long wrote:I don't really have an addictive nature
Me neither. I like alcohol and like getting drunk on occasion but can take it or leave it most days during the week. For example, yes I drank beer in India but didn't get drunk once in 3 weeks. I could've easily gone one for longer. I don't get addicted to anything.
Yi-Long wrote:nor a need to 'explore' stuff that don't seem very smart, tasty or interesting to me.
I do. I'm not an excessive person but feel we only live once.
Yi-Long wrote:Maybe one day when I'm broken down and all alone, I might feel a need for 'comfort', and maybe there will be a bottle of booze. I honestly don't know.
I'll never do that. It's not in my personality to go to alcohol when I'm depressed. Not that I barely ever get depressed.
Yi-Long wrote:Yeah, maybe. But when it comes to fruit, it's a bit expensive and too much of a hassle to buy it regularly, so if I can have the same effect with a glass of beer and/or a small glass of wine, I'll just take that cheaper and easier option.
Alcohol is cheaper than fruit in Holland? I'm moving there :D. Seriously, are you sure?
grim_tales wrote:Though there is something about attractive women smoking that looks glamourous and rather alluring (I answered my own question).
Women smoking is such a turn off IMO.
Yi-Long wrote:Wong Kar-wai's movies always make me want to smoke. It just looks so amazingly cool in his movies :D
I hear you on that one.

MDMA is ecstasy, and the fact that the majority of black-market 'ecstasy' doesn't actually contain any (or little) is why people can die, because they're taking more dangerous chemicals and mixtures. If only MDMA were a legal, standardised product with instructions for safe use.

Ecstasy is a neurotoxin. So wrong. One pill is designed to alter the brain. It takes AN ABUSE of alcohol to do anything like that.

Marijuana raises conflicting scientific viewpoints, but there is anecdotal evidence to suggest that even infrequent use can cause psychological damage.

MDMA tells your brain to release serotonin that is already stored there, making you feel amazing and able to empathise with anyone about anything and have the best dance of your life.

Alcohol numbs the frontal cortex and makes you unable to think straight, therefore causing you to do stupid things.

Hmm.

And as for marijuana, the natural stuff contains equal amounts of psychotic and antipsychotic chemicals, whereas dealers often grow stuff to contain more of the psychotic chemical (THC I think) because it's deemed to be desirable, and this is where the danger comes from.
