Your PC was not even worth £1500 at the time of purchase! Its definitely not worth that now. Its more likely to be worth about £200-£300 at the most now. s far as I'm aware, ou only get like-for-like money back, so if an equivalent PC costs £300 these days, thats all you get back.
Anyway, Tom2681, glad to hear you're getting back on your feet (so to speak) and hope you get everything sorted again soon...

I am afraid to tell you it was. It cost 1500 and was worth that much as it was one of the best pre made for that cash, neary 3 years back that is.IronMonkey wrote:Your PC was not even worth £1500 at the time of purchase! Its definitely not worth that now.
Still 300 for a PC of your insurance is insulting

Well, mine is an old PC. But still with a 19" screen, a printer, joysticks and wheels... it was worth at least 2 000 €... minimum.
But when it comes to computers, french insurances usually don't give a shit.

My point exactly. This is why I couldn't expect to get more than 4 000 € for my dvds.DVDs on the other hand, well I own sdo many rare ones I would have to prove how much they were worth

Yup I know that
at the moment I am under a exchange contract so I get the same or similar specs from the same company, which would cost maybe 600 maybe a little more, not too bad I guess. When my cover runs out in a few months I am getting a new one anyway as 3 years is too long without an upgrade.
and its 2.8Ghz it runs most things very well even now, I just want more power now its definatly worth a lot more than a few hundred thats for sure, I will find out exactly how much when I sell it

you house is that a 2 million or a 2 hundred thousand
Woops... 200 000 €. You're right, 2 million would have been a bit much.
It was on my computer...Big problem about the dvds, do you even have a list of them all to replace them?
But I don't need a list, I still have all of them. But they're all broken in half or worse.

insurance is a big issue, i spent just over a year talking to insurance company after insurance company about what proof and procedures they needed/ have. I now pay £30 a month contents insurance but i have a policy with written agreement from the broker that everything is a) new for old (do they not have this in other countries?? its a coold feature
) and b) my dvd collection is insured for £10000 and i would get the money rather than replacements specificly due to the fact the insurance comapny are unable to replace foreign dvds themselves. I need to keep a list (which isnt up to date come to think of it) and high res photos of the collection.
as i said, no insurance company that I found actually offers this kind of deal up front, it took lots of arguing and negotiating with' the line managers of line managers to sort out... the rest of my posessions are insured for a grand total of £2000 by the way

I need to see what happenes with my dvds then as I could have a Tom happen to me
and then my dvds would be well and truley buggered as I have spent a lot on them and now way they would even beleve I own this many, never mind pay out for the rare ones
my collection would be a lot of cash spent.
it must be so sad to see everything you owned like that. What about personal stuff like photos and documents etc? have you managed to salvage much from the house?
You will have to take some photos of your old homeIt was on my computer...

All the photos that were in albums were saved, all the others drowned. What about personal stuff like photos and documents etc? have you managed to salvage much from the house?
And as I have suspected, only the tin dvds survived (barely) . I'd say that only 0,5 % of my dvds have a 50/50 chance of being playable (which isn't much).

Sorry to burst your bubble but no PC is ever worth £1500, especially a pre-built one a few years ago! The gap may have tightened these days, but no pre-built PC was or ever will be worth the money. The companies load tonnes of junk onto your PC and charge you a premium for the software.romerojpg wrote:I am afraid to tell you it was. I bet if you'd built that same PC yourself you could probably have shaved £400-£500 off that price.

OK, small update:
I finally got the insurance money for everything, including the house.
They only gave me 100 000 € for it (instead of 200 000) based on the fact that about 1/3 of the house + the garage survived.
What they don't seem to understand is that the house can't be fixed. Everything has already been demolished so I could start rebuilding it. :x
On a more positive note, I've finished the blueprints with an architect friend of mine. Expect pictures of my newly built giant movie theater around March 2006.
@LD: is it me or is this thread beginning to look like a blog ?

Wow, they're not gonna play you everything? Isn't there a higher court or a second opinion or whatever you can use? God I hate insurance companies. If it can't be used again it can't be used again, so they should pay for it; that's why you payed all those monthly insurance-fees!

On a positive note, I'm looking forward to that 2006 theatre. Maybe you could arrange a premier/red carpet night.

Well... that only leaves one solution: collect the money they WILL pay you, then change your insurance-company, and go to the office of this one, and throw a brick through their window. It might not get you an extra 100K, but you will have gotten some sort of petty lil revengeTom2681 wrote:Final amount I'm afraid.
Nothing I can do about it.

I believe the little people find the phrase 'Dwarf' highly offensive, and prefer the term 'gnome' (whoch OBVIOUSLY is MUCH LESS OFFENSIVE (!)Tom2681 wrote:Right, where's the baseball bat ?![]()

@Romero:
Don't I know it.
The fact is: an expert came to my house to evaluate the damages.
He's the one who has to say how much money I'm gonna get.
And he has the final word.
Now I regret offering him a coffee when he came.
@Yi:
First it was azn, nip, jap, yellow, nigger, mongolian... now it's dwarves ?!
They ARE dwarves, why can't they admit it.
Stupid Pygmies !
