computer rather than sky plus

does anyone here hang out much on the digitalspy forums?? I need advice on setting up my second pc as essentially a recorder for sky... i think i have all the parts and am too tight to sign the 12 month sky+ contract... but I dont really know how a ligitimate ambition this is and whether the people on digitalspy approve of such questions (it is kind of a packed and messy site...)

any ideas?
