In my case, I have a reasonably strong scouse (Liverpool) accent. Not strong like a local scally/chav/ned/smackhead/delete as appropriate (with the nasal intonations), but If I spoke English to someone born in China (who has studied) English, they would struggle to understand.
What kind of accent do you have (speaking wise)?

Since the only type of communication we don't do on here, is actually speak (in the literal sense) to each other, I'm just kind of curious. Is this an odd/boring thing to ask?

Tigercage aka Limited Edition Slag speaks with a distinct Scottish accent but is quite well spoken (if you excuse all the swearing).
I seem to adapt accents quite easily, but right now I think I speak with a slight Aberdonian dialect... it's probably going to get worse the longer I stay here.
I can imagine Mark having a generic Scottish accent (does Dundee have a local dialect Mark?) but as I've never met him, I can't say for sure.
Oh I also met Staffyman, who speaks with a generic English accent.

English accent of course
I've lived in the South West most of my life so a West Country accent I guess. Which luckily for me West Country accents aren't strong like some British accents.

p.s - Is there such a thing as a non-speaking accent?

Erm like a regular English accent? To my ears anyway, most people from England sound the same with the exception of specific dialects - namely scousers, geordies and those yorkshire farmer people.bradavon wrote:What does that mean? I think he said Middlesbrough.

I'm Dutch, and in my own language I don't really have an accent. I lived in an area where they DO speak with a heavy accent, but I moved away from there when I was six so it didnt really affect me. I speak accent-free Dutch, but ofcourse, people from the other provinces think I speak dofferent from their dutch, obviously, cause they all have accents.
When I speak english, I'm sure my dutch background is noticable, as is often the case with Dutch people speaking english. I used to have very good grades for english, so I have no clue as to what extent it's noticable, but usually I can spot a dutchman speaking english from miles away.
I was in Macau this summer, and there was this big tower and me and my girl scaled the outside of it, and when we came back in, there was this guy tapping me on the shoulders, giving me a thumbs up, and saying ;'you looked like a movie star out there!!!' as to which I replied :'hey... nederlands'
I just instantly recognised, from the first english words he uttered, that he was a Dutchman
So I have no doubts that my english would not be perfect or accent-free...

Yes, Dundee has it's own gutteral accent, but I'm quite well spoken, comparitively, so I suppose I'm what Bisc would term "generic" Scottish sounding. Glaswiegians tend to sing everything, Aberdonians are sometimes impossible to fathom with their "teuchter" accent.BiscLimpkit wrote:I can imagine Mark having a generic Scottish accent (does Dundee have a local dialect Mark?) but as I've never met him, I can't say for sure.

In french I have a very strong "southern" accent (known as the Marseillais accent).
Thankfully it can't be heard when I'm speaking english.
In my region, we have a tendency to overpronounce and extend words.
For example:
The french word for "tyre" is "pneu".
In the north (Paris and above) they'd pronounce it just like you'd pronounce it in english (with a silent "p").
Over here it's more like "Peuh Neuh".
Maybe it's the sun that makes us lazy and slow.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Re: What kind of accent do you have (speaking wise)?
Slow night, salty???
I have a thick Black Country accent that most non-Midlanders would probably equate to Brummie, but half my family come from Tipton and have accents about as thick as you'll find in England (historians claim the Tipton dialect is the closest thing to Olde English) and some of that rubbed off on me when I was a kid. My accent is thicker than how a typical Brummie would speak though I guess, seeing as I went to Birmingham University and even the Brummies took the piss out of my accent!

My accent confuses people, when I've been out in Cambridge before I've been told I sound Scottish and Irish!! Quite strange considering the only thing that should really be going on with my accent is some unfortunate Yorkie-ness, but I certainly avoid that much more than your average Grimbarian.

In my class there's a French girl who speaks English with a Scottish accent... really weird.

Can't believe I mispelt "Teuchter". Fixed now.
