I dont like the idea of double packs, as hell you may hate the other film. Still they seem to be selling for cheap so far, thats a good sign. Well if you like both.

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
Last Boy Scout I seem to have lost
you know you have too many dvds when you cannot find them
so HD is the option for me now
well image permitting, but that very old US dvd of the film was dire, so it should easily decimate that image quality (well we can but hope).

I have the R2 and it's poor. The first couple few batches of Warner DVDs mostly were. New Jack City and Maverick were terrible as I recall.

Warner early snapper DVDs were mostly all awful. There's so many of them that Warner still haven't updated, they were acceptable when they came out but certainly not now. Many DVDs still can only be bought on DVD in flipper form too.

I got the Warner snapper of THE CANDIDATE the other day and it was fullscreen! I looked it up on Amazon, and it came out in 1997. The dark ages!

Forbidden Planet Blu Ray coming September:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Forbidden-Plane ... 943&sr=1-2
I just pre ordered the UK as I assumed it would have all the extras (at least) the 2 disc DVD had.

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
The US version comes a couple of weeks earlier. As to a mono soundtrack, I think Warners would include one IF it survives, with classic films like Gone With The Wind, theyve shown they can be bothered.
I've read the US BD will include the other feature film so I'd guess the UK one is the same.

Here are the Forbidden Planet US BD specs:
Forbidden Planet
* 1080P 2.40:1 Widescreen
* English 5.1 DTS-HD MA
* French and Spanish (Castilian & Latin) DD1.0
* English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles
* Deleted Scenes and Lost Footage
* 2 Follow-Up Vehicles Starring Robby the Robot: Feature Film The Invisible Boy & The Thin Man TV Series Episode Robot Client
* TCM Original Documentary Watch the Skies! Science Fiction, the 1950s and Us
* 2 Featurettes: Amazing! Exploring the Far Reaches of Forbidden Planet Robby the Robot: Engineering a Sci-Fi Icon
* Excerpts from The MGM Parade TV Series
* Theatrical Trailers of Forbidden Planet and The Invisible Boy
The Invisible Boy would be in SD I assume?
That looks identical to the UK 2 disc I have - minus the various other trailers.

A further review: http://www.dvdfile.com/reviews/blurayre ... ew?start=1
A favourable review: http://uk.bluray.ign.com/articles/110/1103224p1.html
I've just ordered the original BD. It's such a shame they didn't clean up the existing master etc... as it looks like neither old or new master is what the film deserves. Oh well, it looks like the original BD beats the DVD at least.

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
I was posting it for comparisons sake.
The truth is, many people will agree with that reviewer (I found as many favourable reviews as unfavourable ones). Most people don't care how the film is supposed to look or what the director thinks. Films become a financial item and you cannot blame Fox for creating a blu-ray the majority of people would prefer.
That's not to say "I" agree. The remaster looks like dog shit. I'm watching my 2 Disc SE DVD now. Boy it's not aged well. It's not sharp at all and the colours are really muted. I hear the original BD fixes both of those problems, so I'm sure I'll be happy.

Re: The General HD Releases Thread!
Not the original BD? Some reviews went in further in the praise for the new BD. Using words like "amazing".
Predators looks pretty poor. Why isn't Rodriguez actually directing it?
