I thought Cape Fear was terrific (apart from the thumb-sucking scene).

I must admit it's been over a decade since I last watched it, will definitely give it another go once it comes to BD.

I don't think so. If I was a big fan of his work I would hunt down everything that's for sure. I can remember seeing all the ones mentioned on this thread, and even many of his other work which are rarely talked about, but I am bound to have missed a few. I just do not find a lot of his work memorable, they sort of merge into one another. It does not help that he uses the same actors so many times, the films just blur into the last one for me.

I like how you make it sound like the people who rate Scorsese as a filmmaker are illiterate idiots when you champion talentless hacks like Paul Anderson and Uwe Boll in all the forums you frequent

Hey anyone can rate Scorcese if they like, I just don't think any of his films are masterpieces like the majority seem to.
Taxi Driver, Cape Fear and The Departed are the ones I would say are crackers (and I own). Many of his other films bored me to death, or I just hated them a lot, hence shit to me. Not sure if I would class Goodfellas as shit, but I disliked it by the end (it started good, ended up poor for me).
I do remember thinking Casino was shit mind you, no idea why now all these years later. I don't think I would give many of his films another watch in my life to find out why it has to be said. I did see most many a moon ago now, well before I reviewed most films I watch, so couldn't even say much about some.

Mind you I hardly champion Uwe Boll (Anderson makes fun films for me, so yes in a small way I do for him)
I love watching Bolls crappy films (yes crappy, as none are exactly great). It's an addiction, not me championing him as a classy film maker that's for sure. I mainly find the guy hilarious and some of his films are alright, and some of his films are crap. I just love the way people slag him off so much, usually before they have even seen one film from him. Stupid people slag off films before they see them, and many stupid people get stuck into Boll before seeing a single frame.
It is not like I would pay much for one of his films on dvd that's for damn sure a few quid for a chuckle is what I like to slap down for a Boll. The commentaries alone are worth that price.

He is apparently one of the great directors or Goodfellas is apparently one of the great films ever? Which one did you mean?

Both, people seem to worship him as a Director, and a few of his films. Especially Goodfellas.

Have you seen The Room by Tommy Wiseau? That's the ultimate so-bad-it's-good film, I can't stop laughing about it and I show it to friends all the time.

Ohh I have heard about it since day 1, but no way will I waste my time watching it at least some of Bolls films are worth a watch, I cannot imagine The Room being my thing many of the so bad films turn out to be just that, like them Megashark Vs Giant Squid part 3 cheapos - hard to even get to the end of them, never mind think you got 10p worth out of it

Casino is a good film and I own the BD... but even I would admit that it's overlong and somewhat relentless in its violence and agression. 3 hrs of 'fucking jag offs' and bloody beatings can be a bit wearing... Haven't seen Goodfellas in over a decade but I do remember preferring Casino. There aren't any sympathetic characters in Goodfellas. I like Cape Fear because it's a genre movie without (too many) pretentions. It irks me when critics react as though 'a mere thriller' were beneath Scorcese's talents.

I seem to recall Goodfellas has more heart, instead of just lots of violence (as you say Mark). I like both though.
