Could be. It's a real shame he didn't swallow his pride and recut the film for the SE. By 2003 Fox would have given him free reign to use whatever footage he wanted (and AFAIK the vast majority of what he wanted was shot). You know, these things are always a matter of personal preference. I thought the religious stuff was half-baked, and the TC actually managed to cover most of the best ideas the film had to offer. Producers aren't always wrong - as the chestburster ending proved. That said, I'm getting quite keen to rewatch the EC. Damn you, guys!!Shingster wrote:I personally think had Fincher not had so much resistence and not walked off set in the final weeks then his final cut would probably be a more streamlined variance on the Special Edition, maybe about 2hrs 15mins or so.

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out
Overall the added scenes do make a difference to the thematics and characterisation, it's not fair to analyse them coldly in a list like that because it's how they play within the context of the overall "flow", which is obviously not gonna be the same if you're changing a scene here or a scene there, but I do feel that even in the longer cut and probably most likely in the version David Fincher would have created had he been given no limits on budget & time, the themes were never going to be satisfactorily covered because they were still the remnants from Vincent Ward's original, much more envelope-pushing, script. That's the real tragedy of Alien 3 to me, the stripping down of the original concept.
Are you getting the Anthology BD set Mark? I wouldn't bother revisiting the Alien3 Special Edition cut until you get a chance to do so on Blu-ray as they've remastered the sound and made a much better job of it.

I'm not a fan of Alien Resurrection... but I'll probably still get the set when it's on sale.
Not sure what price suits... guess I'll know when I see it.
There are some series fans who loathe Vincent Ward's contribution to Alien 3.
It's all a matter of taste and opinion.

They've never seen his contribution! His original script and concept was mangled beyond all reason, you can't say "well Ripley stuck on a planet with a bunch of religious folk and no technology/weapons was an appalling idea" when you've never seen how the idea would have played out in it's true and proper context.

Jason Scott Lee's performance is good, as is Randy Edelman's score.
That's about it.

When I heard the love theme (Bruce and Linda), I'm sure I had heard that used in other trailers before.

Yeah, only in about a thousand! Forrest Gump is probably the most famous one.grim_tales wrote:When I heard the love theme (Bruce and Linda), I'm sure I had heard that used in other trailers before.

Magic 3/5
Creepy 70's psychological thriller starring Anthony Hopkins as a fragile ventrilioquist slowly being taken over by his dummy,Fats. Well directed by Richard Attenborough, languidly paced and with good performances from Hopkins,Burgess Meredith & Ed Lauter.Ann-Margret looks great (does she still act) some leaps in logic are required there's just no way a hottie like Ann-Margret would leap into bed with the nerdy Hopkins within hours of meeting him after 15 years the BD looks faithful to it's original source with plenty of grain intact.the colour pallette is rather drab and there isn't much HD pop in the cinematographer supervised transfer, looking rather flat at times.

Piranha 3D (USA, 2010) – 3.5/5
A stark contrast to Saw and other dark horror movies, Piranha is sunshine, boobs, and guts. Aja delivers an honest and occasionally downright glorious tongue in the cheek exploitation pic. Bikinis and bare breasts are present in every other scene - with an enjoyably gratuitous attitude and 3D enhancement. It works apart from a terribly boring 3D nude swimming scene. For an R-rated summer horror flick Piranha is staggeringly violent – once the killer fishes taste the flesh, the beach is literally cover with body parts and floating pieces of flesh. Supporting casting hits the nail as well – Jerry O’Connel as ultra sleazy video producer, Eli Roth as wet T-shirt contest host, Richard Dreyfuss as fisherman, and Christopher Lloyd as crazy scientist. Poor mainstream audiences, with their inevitable doubts of witnessing “a stupid bad movie” enhanced scene by scene...
IMDb quote:
"NO FUN AT ALL! It was DISGUSTING,SLEEZY,STUPID"

Are Kelly's boobs projected in 3D? Serious question because that sounds rather fantastic but otherwise, the film looks meh.

To be honest, I didn't know who Kelly was while watching the movie. She's (fully) nude in the swimming scene at least, otherwise I can't remember. Loved Aja's sleaziness, but the caucasian boobs are of no deeper interest to me (bradavon wrote:Are Kelly's boobs projected in 3D? Now, if Aja made a sequel called "Piranha 2: The Killer Sushi in Tokyo Bay", that I would really want to see....

Dude, she has massive (real) boobs. That's all you need to know. White, Green (the hot bird in Star Trek) or Asian: Massive real boobs!
You don't know? Useless

Well, were any of them projected in 3D? Any boobs projected in 3D would be indelibly imprinted in my brain. Possibly even moobs, okay not moobs.

Re: What general film/series have you just seen.. marks out
There should be a good amount of 3D boobs but quite honestly, my I really didn't memorize this stuff, I only remember the gore scenesbradavon wrote:Well, were any of them projected in 3D? Any boobs projected in 3D would be indelibly imprinted in my brain. Possibly even moobs, okay not moobs.
But I don't recall any "on my face" boobs, but then, I wasn't sitting so close to the screen.
Now that I'm thinking about it 3D technology just might be the key to bringing gravure idol videos to cinemas
Man go see the film already. It's got Kelly's boobs and plenty of other boobs. 3D or 2D, you want to see boobs

I don't understand how you can not be turned on by an attractive woman of any race.
You can have 'a thing' for Asian girls but to say 'oh, I don't look at white girls' is bizarre.
