Girl With The Dragon Tattoo 3.5/5
Very good thriller, the first part of the "Millenium" trilogy. Star making turn by Noomi Rapace in the title role as the damaged computer hacker Lisbeth, some graphic scenes sexual abuse imagery and unusually towards a male as well not sure if the remake is necessary though.

From Russia With Love (UK, 1963) - 4/5
One of the best Bond films, with the best theme song, and one of the best Bond girls. Daniela Bianchi is charming in the train scenes. And the Brits once knew how to make great films.

THE INCREDIBLE HULK **1/2
Never saw the Ang Lee original but this sequel popped up on TV so I thought WTF? Decent enough entertainment, professionally made. At the end it's just two CGI effects walloping the bejesus out of each other, but that's what you pays your money for... Edward Norton is good as always.
IRON MAN ***
Enjoyed this more. Well-written, with plenty humour and character about it. I actually laughed out loud a couple of times. Robert Downey, Jr. is spot on and takes this to the next level of comic hero success. Ultimately we have two big effects beating the crap out of each other for the big finish but until then I was properly absorbed. Gwyneth Paltrow has never been more appealing.

Snakes On A Plane 2/5
Not as much fun as the hype suggested but a watchable action thriller nonetheless.Jackson is always worth watching.
Resident Evil:Afterlife 2/5
4th entry in the series has plenty of daft action but is let down by the lead villain playing Albert Wesker, truly the crappiest performance i've seen in a major motion picture for a long time.laughable.
Childs Play 2.5/5
First in the chucky series remains the best imo, well cast and the snappy running time speeds it along nicely.
Commando 4/5
Arnie classic looks good on BD and at less than £6 nowadays is a no-brainer upgrade.
Sherlock Holmes 2/5
Entertaining blockbuster is ok but the thin plot and dodgy action sequences let it down some.
Anchorman 3.5/5
Not a big fan of these american comedies but this one was a good laugh.
Black Dynamite 2/5
Another blaxploitation spoof starring Michael Jai White isn't bad but i think the genre's been done to death now.

THE PRINCESS BRIDE **
Not as good as its reputation would suggest.
Script (by William Goldman) is surprisingly weak in parts and the whole thing looked kinda cheap (it was filmed in England).
Mark Knopfler's score is atrocious.

Green Hornet 2/5
Super hero redux with a light touch is fairly well done but derailed by making Seth Rogen's Britt Reid an absolutely obnoxious jerk for most of the running time. Jay Chou's Kato fares a little better and the film is weak in the action scenes unfortunately.interesting that Britt Reid's ally in the tv series DA Frank Scanlon is a corrupt DA here worth watching but underwhelming.

Patriot Games ***
Flawed but entertaining thriller with Harrison Ford solid as always. Some felt this was too hard on the IRA (I would've went further). In Hollywood everything's a compromise so you take what you can get.

Social Network 1/5
I can't deny this is a very well made film but omg i don't think i've ever come across a more unlikeable bunch of horrible,up their own arses characters in my life.the fact that the subject is boring as well doesn't help.

YES at last someone who agrees with me
As you say well made etc... but the characters were just the most awful bunch of posh rich boys and big headed twats that in no way I got with anyone.
Add in the fact a shedload of it is total and utter fiction and it really got on my nerves, now everyone who saw the film thinks this is exactly what went on

Yeah the characters were a bunch of uniformily elitist snotrags
not my cup of tea definitely.
The Girl Who Played With Fire 2.5/5
Lesser follow-up has lesser production values and the story isn't as interesting.Still well worth seeing though. i get the impression this one has been heavily edited down, more so than the first one. There's a trilogy set of the DC's coming out in Germany next month,if they have english subs (doubtful) i'll get it.

You actually reckon Steve Zuckerberg and his cronies are nice people?
. They came up with a great idea but I doubt they've got (or at least had) many social skills. Besides why do you people have to be likeable? I totally don't get why marks are knocked down because a character is dislikeable, even more so if it's an accurate representation.
David Fincher is known to go to great lengths for accuracy and a lot of it is still going through the courts, so of course it's not fully established what happened yet. That much should be obvious.

Well you keep your unlikable film Brad, I at least want to root for one person. They are all twats beyond words, no reason to ever watch it again as I hated them all and wanted them to die horribly, if that was what they aimed for, well they did it right as I hated the film.bradavon wrote:You actually reckon Steve Zuckerberg and his cronies are nice people?. Bull to accuracy
Fincher has started its Bull, he made loads up and took the garbage book for reference (also loads in that bull book) and did NOT go for facts at all. Its a story Fincher says, not fact.
In that case he could have made one person nice, but he never bothered.

I believe Gas did like it. I've not seen it yet. I missed it in the cinema but am hoping my Bro picks it up, so I can borrow the DVD. I don't want to blind buy on this one and cannot be bothered to download it.
It's not about Facebook, so your point about "Facebook generation" is irrelevant. Besides, aren't you on it?

The producer is on record saying it's about the lawsuit(s) that ensued, not about Facebook or the Facebook phenomena. There is a difference. I'm more inclined to believe him than you.romerojpg wrote:It is about Facebooksee the film and then comment
None of what I said requires me to have seen the film.saltysam wrote:fuck me Brad so you are pontificating to me and you haven't even seen itwhat a dick
I don't need to have seen Social Network to know Steve Zuckerberg is probably a dick, that it's ridiculous to drop marks because a character happens to be dislikeable (wise up, not everyone is likeable), that Fincher goes to great lengths for accuracy, that the full story isn't yet known (so it's understandable aspects were "made up" as Romero likes to put it) and I've already said what the producer tells us it's about.
I've not commented on what I think of Social Network because like I said, I've not seen it.

Blue Valentine: 8 out of 10
Michelle Williams and Ryan Reynolds both very good, good directing/cinematography (especially the blue tint of the future room scenes). Basically a decent movie. Not one to watch if you've just been dumped though and no that's not a spoiler, the films about the breakup of a relationship.
Black Swan: 8 out of 10
I've never seen a Darren Aronofsky film before. I was impressed. Nice and dark, pretty horrific in places, decent acting by Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Vincent Cassel can do this sort of role in his sleep by now. Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis both looked hot too, bonus. The trailer makes it look more a thriller but I'd put it more in the horror genre.
It was pretty fucked up in places, switching between reality and how Portman's character saw things.. You were left to work things out for yourself, which I always much prefer.

You should see Aronofsky's Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler. I didn't like The Fountain and not seen pi.
