Really? My favourite of his is 'Pi', I recommend it.bradavon wrote:I've never seen a Darren Aronofsky film before.
I don't know about all this (I've heard it's quite accurate), but this is a film, not a documentary, you have to allow for creative changes when adaptations from novels are made (or from real life).romerojpg wrote: Bull to accuracy![]()
Fincher has started its Bull, he made loads up and took the garbage book for reference (also loads in that bull book) and did NOT go for facts at all. Its a story Fincher says, not fact.

So what's the verdict on the Perfect Blue connection? I haven't been following the discussion, just saw Perfect Blue mentioned everywhere (prior to Black Swan's release). Aronofsky is certainly a fan (he owns the remake rights, although I believe only because he wanted to copy some shots to his own movies).

None of what I said requires me to have seen the film.saltysam wrote:fuck me Brad so you are pontificating to me and you haven't even seen itwhat a dick
I don't need to have seen Social Network to know Steve Zuckerberg is probably a dick, that it's ridiculous to drop marks because a character happens to be dislikeable (wise up, not everyone is likeable), that Fincher goes to great lengths for accuracy, that the full story isn't yet known (so it's understandable aspects were "made up" as Romero likes to put it) and I've already said what the producer tells us it's about.
I've not commented on what I think of Social Network because like I said, I've not seen it.

Ebert is a tool, it has been stated countless times that 3D films are brighter in cinemas by directors/stars/people who know their stuff, even 3D Blu Rays are the same.
Ebert may have seen a dimmer image when he saw it, but that's not the way it supposed to be shown, bad set up I say.

The Postman ***
Underrated post apocalyptic-western is roundly hated by... just about everyone... but I like it. Sure, it's long and has a tendency to preach, but there's something pleasingly old-fashioned in its values and sentiment. Not a film for today's cynical age.

Devil 2/5 ok horror,worth watching .
Boys From Brazil 2.5/5 Decent 70's thriller with great scenery chewing from Gregory Peck as Josef Mengele. The BD transfer is a revelation but shows up some dodgy make up on the old timers like Olivier & Peck.

I find it odd when you give something 2/5 and say it's worth watching, surely anything below 2.5 isn't!saltysam wrote:Devil 2/5 ok horror, worth watching.

Batman Returns ***
Significant improvement on the 1989 original. You know that this is exactly the delirious film Tim Burton set out to make, populated with eccentricities and character grotesques. Better writing, less silliness (though lots of humour, which isn't the same thing), and a terrific performance from La Belle Michelle as Catwoman. Miaow. No buffoonish Joker and - best of all - no shitty Prince soundtrack.

I feel basically the opposite, preferring the original. The sequel feels a bit flat.

I need a facepalm picture.
Returns is a sold film - Michelle Pfeiffer is SUPERB. Keaton is so underused it's an absolute joke. The film is grand enough but feels extremely forced in story and 'setpieces' - and artificial (exterior shots seem like they're filmed indoors, Gotham is a 'tiny' square and with a couple of alleys running off it).
1989 Batman beats it on:
Excitement
Enjoyment
Humour
Atmosphere
Casting
Production Design (R.I.P. Anton Furst)
Costume Design
Stunts & Fighting
Sentiment
Filming Style
Editing (is exemplary)
And BOTH Soundtracks for the 89 film are Legendary.
Batman Returns looks more expensive but lacks the magic, and only semi uses all the hard work laid down by the landmark production of first one. It's like a Sparkly Xmas gift vs 'The Nativity Scene'.
No way on earth is Returns better
P.S. I just saw The Ward

What- like the original film which was shot entirely on one stage in Pinewood!?!luckystars wrote:and artificial (exterior shots seem like they're filmed indoors, Gotham is a 'tiny' square and with a couple of alleys running off it).
Agreed.1992 Batman Returns beats it on:
Excitement
Enjoyment
Humour
Atmosphere
Casting
Production Design (Bo Welch lives!)
Costume Design
Stunts & Fighting
Sentiment
Filming Style

It's like you're reading my mind...And Prince's Soundtrack for the 89 film is Shite!

Batman Begins was mostly filmed indoors as well, but they did a great job of recreating a city!

I take it you know relatively little about the production.
"The film was shot at Pinewood Studios in england, taking up nearly all of its 99 acre backlot and utilizing 16 Sound Stages. "

Exterior shots of the city.
I like it though - "one stage"
