Gil made some very funny/silly posts back in the day on the old BnB - I thought Jonathan Stathes was his alter ego also, starting arguments constantly.

Black Mask:

My Father is a Hero:

Both from Kam & Ronson. Place your pre-orders. It's been confirmed letters HD are printed in the cover. Looks great in your shelf!

Yup! Dont love either movie in particular but Black Mask was kinda cool when I last saw it. Preordered already! Dragon Dynasty about to release their disc for "The Enforcer" next month and between that version or K&R's version (which Im assuming will be uncut & in Cantonese), the choice is easy.

Back to Iron Monkey, Im watching my disc right now and it looks and sounds nice. To be honest, it sounds much better than it looks becuz the Cantonese track is actually pretty clean and clear with minimal added foley effects. gots some good bass and surround. pretty decent!

We we're always arguing on the smallest details. Mostly I won.
Would be great if they didn't screw this up. I'm not holding my breath...
The majority of ppl on there (the ADVDG) are full of shit!
But not Spannick and not when it comes to technical specs. Have you read Toddly's rave reviews?? Like you say: Full of shit.

Really? So those screen caps are inaccurate?

No excuse for not including an original mono track. The Fortune Star DVD had one.

Toddly's reviews are perfectly fine. Its his opinion and I dont feel the need to confront him about his opinion, especially when it concerns a product I dont own myself. Plus he doesnt try to pass himself off as some wannabe expert and I respect him for that.
Really? So those screen caps are inaccurate?
I have it. I watched it. I know.

Yeah, well, we'll simply have to agree to disagree. If I had read one of Toddly's inaccurate reviews and then shelled out for a Blu Ray on that basis I'd be extremely pissed off. No offence but it's fans like yourself and Toddly that are the reason why we keep getting shitty upconverts (or as Hung would prefer - substandard transfers). If people didn't buy them... they wouldn't make them.

It's a simple question I've asked: Are those caps inaccurate of the final product? Yes or no?

Hahaha I dont know man but thats pretty silly. I think the real reason theyre putting them out is becuz there's a genuine demand for them and the timing is right. Thats what I think.

inaccurate? no. are they inconsistent? yes, just as blu-ray.com reviewer says and like I said in my earlier post. Again, I have it, I watched it. I know. Big difference from simply staring at a freeze frame while simultaneously arguing about it with the notorious DLH on BnB! U should check it out man, its a good movie. ur missin out....!

Have you ever seen the HKL or HKL Platinum to compare?

Look at this cap; it's blurred:

That's NOT true HD.

If nothing else this thread has reminded me of one of the reasons i gave up with screen caps.people who don't own the discs are convinced they know more about the disc than the people that own them :notworthy: there's about 5 people over at the blu-ray forum who say it's HD,are they all wrong?i'm sure the disc is HD,not very good HD mind, but HD nonetheless.

Thing is, the SD master Blu-Rays DO look maaaaaaaaarrrginally better than DVD. Reason? Compression.

It's still an 'upconvert' but the source isn't low DVD bitrate, it's a higher bitrate SD image.

A real world example is 28 Days later on Blu-Ray - it looks a tad better than the DVD. Better colours and less muddy.

These upconvered Blu-Rays ARE better if you only want a relatively small improvement. The real bonus would be (like on 28 Days Later) the massive improvement on SOUND. However I'm not sure (remixes aside) if the HD AUDIO on these Blu's is even genuine, or an UPCONVERT of the typical Lo bitrate audio from the DVD's... ;)

so you can confirm that Iron Monkey is an upscale?Source please :) to be clear,i gave up on K&R discs after the first OUATIC disc.Wasn't impressed. However i quite happily admit to not knowing enough about transfers to be able to categorically state it's an upscale from a screencap. I've seen caps that don't look great but in viewing the disc look fine in motion.it's all subjective,Mark can see blurring in Fist Of Legend,i cannot. Gladiator (original caps) look like turd,in motion they were nowhere near as bad. Mark quotes Spannick, the guy knows his stuff but i recall him dissing a wellgo Shaw disc and it actually turned out to be a decent release,so even the most knowledgable people are not always right.

This is exactly what I was trying to say before. I don't understand why people use the letters HD as an excuse? What does it matter if it's genuine HD, if the picture quality is still just a marginal improvement over the dvd edition (which all us already own)? I'm interested in transfers, not in some magical letters printed on the cover.
