I have the wellgo Heroic Ones and i saw no difference with the original dvd which was why Grim's statement confused me.Opium is a great looking disc, managed to get it from Axelmusic just before it went OOP.
Are you talking about the Blu Ray in reference to early ones escaping frame cuts?
An uncut BD would be hard to find now I guess.
I have noticed on later IVL DVDs the newly edited trailer for Heroic Ones was anamorphic.
Someone over Bluray.com reckons the Black Mask blu-ray released in HK is longer than the mei ah disc.
"Yes its different from Mei Ah release. Mei Ah dvd has ridiculous cuts like the dude cutting off his own hand, his leg getting ran over by the tractor, Jet impaling a baddie on spikes then bending the spikes forward, Francois being shot through her shoulder, stupid shit like that. This version restores all that. Keep in mind that Taiwanese version is even more violent. "

That's promising. Even if it's an upscale, might be worth it for a more complete version than the current DVD, which is more violent than the old Mei Ah DVD.
Got this one in the mail last week and yes this is longer than the 2 Mei Ah releaes. All the violent bits seen on the Artisan and HKVideo dvds are present.

and it's in the wrong language.
Also picked up My Father Is A Hero which looks surprisingly strong. Dirt and specs are present but overall the print is in terrifc shape. It is a bit soft and it could be sharper but colors and skintones look spot on. I think it's safe to say this will easily best Dragon Dynasty's upcoming English dubbed blu-ray.
LOL tell me about it. While we're on the subject of DD, here's an interesting article about their parent company Vivendi Entertainment concerning a few recent HK films.
I also recieved Black Mask and My Father is a Hero this week. In my opinion MFIAH is one of K&R's best transfers yet.
gasteropod wrote:What's the Black Mask transfer like? And has it got the oversaturated turquoise tint that the Taiwanese cut has?
The transfer isn't perfect but far better than I had expected. Dirt and debris turn up randomly and there is an overrall softness to the image but all in all it's more than acceptable. Darker scenes are dominated by a blue metalic tint while daytime scenes lean towards brown. Colors and contrast seem accurate with strong blacks and piercing reds. There is a bit DNR but it wasn't overkill. I'm willing to bet that the Lionsgate disc still looks better but it's a no brainer as to which disc is the one to own.
