Just curious why you'd opt for what is presumably a more expensive item?

Yes, it features additional extras related to Yusaku Matsuda. That's the reason.

Matsuda (who plays the villain Sato) is quite little known outside Japan... only a few films of his have been released in the the US and UK... like Resurrection of the Golden Wolf, which was marketed with Sonny Chiba's name. But actually Chiba pales in comparison to Matsuda in Japan...

He was already sick with cancer when he shot Black Rain, but he refused any treatment and didn't tell anyone about his sickness, because it would have compromised his performance... "This way I'll live forever". He died a few weeks after the film's JP opening, in hospital just after receiving a new Hollywood offer from Sean Connery and Robert De Niro.

In Japan Matsuda is the league of Bruce Lee and James Dean... the bookstores are full of books about him, new documentatries are being released in cinemas, the web is full of fansites, shops sell Matsuda action figures, films and animation do homages (such as the main characters in Cowboy Bebop, and Onimusha 2 video game), cinemas have Matsuda festivals, and so on...

A real shame Matsuda died so young. I'm not familiar with him other than in Black Rain but I admired his performance.

I've received 'A Man Vanishes' MoC DVD and I'm surprised to see 'E: Exempt from classification' on the back and no BBFC ratings. I've never seen that before, am I to presume it's to do with it being like a documentary?
