QuickTime Player - Heeeeelp!

Post by thelostdragon »

OK, I had this problem with Windows Media Player before and out of some reason it is gone now.

Now let me explain the exact same problem I am encountering now with QuickTime Player. When I start watching a .mov-file it starts playing normally, but after 2 seconds or so, the screen is painted into a complete wall of green colour. It goes up and down from the left side to the right side. And when this happens, not only does the video stop playing, my whole computer slows down. Aaaaaargh!!!

Does anybody know what can be done to get rid of this problem?

3 possibilities:

A. Reinstall/Upgrade your videocard drivers, Reinstall DirectX, Reinstall Quicktime, Cross your fingers.

B. Install something called "Quicktime Alternative". It's a directshow filter that allows you to watch Quicktime movies in Media Player Classic and other directshow compatible players.

C. Use a program called VLC to watch your Quicktime videos. It's not the best-looking player, but it gets the job done.

Did it look like this ?

I've had this problem for a few months. It's caused by a compatibility problem between directX and my video card.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Thanks, Tom! I'll try the QuickTime Alternative.

What it actually looks like was not like this. Here at least you can read a bit, but my screen turns totally green. Will show you a screenshot later.

Am installing that filter right now and it asks me to turn off the IE.

Are you sure the video isn't simply corrupt?

Otherwise give Quicktime Alternative ago:

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Qui ... native.htm

Up until recently I was using Quicktime Player 6.5 but this no longer plays the latest Quicktime files which are made for version 7 BUT version 7 now insists you install ITunes.

NO THANKS. I've now ditched QTP and gone with QTA. It's a pity as I actually like the QTP interface unlike the AWFUL RealPlayer. I've been using RealPlayer Alternative for some time now.

That is SO wrong Brad... can't you read? :D

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html

There's the correct DL link for QT7...
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

Thanks Gojensen. Where did you find that link?

If you go to:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/

And click on Download I only see an option for QT + ITunes???

EDIT: Ah it's on the right hand side hidden way. That's dumb.

Cheers I can go back to QT. I prefer it, it's simple and does what it says on the tin. Media Player Classic is good but has to many options.
