Take That

Post by grim_tales »

Anyone notice the "For The Record" program on ITV tonight where the group members are interviewed (they were all interviewed in 2004/05 I think but not sure).
In retrospect, Take That weren't so bad IMO ;) Certainly better than the likes of Westlife in boyband terms. Back For Good (1995) was a lovely song :)

I actually thought they were pretty good at the time.....

But when you look back now and compare them to teh boy bands today...They look like MULTI TALENTED GENIUSES........

ina a rlated note..Saw Robbie Williams new video on tv tonght.......Is he still popular over there...He is like a god in Asia.....

What happened to the rest of them?

Westlife are Irish, they've just had their 12th (?) number one over here with a song called YOU RAISE ME UP, a melody which rips off/is based on a traditional tune called O DANNY BOY.

The only decent Take That song I can think of is 'Back For Good' though there may have been one or two other ones that didn't suck. Their early stuff was particularly awful (I caught some of it on a VH1 Special)

Westlife are worse and still dominate the UK charts. I wish they would move to Korea. No offence Killer.

Huh? How are Take That better than Westlife or Boyzone?

Don't get me wrong I'm not a fan of any of them but all three were huge in their day.

Well, like them or not, Take That were original. Boyzone copied Take That and then Westlife copied Boyzone. Like a generational bootleg, each copy gets worse. The problem with the latter two bands is that Louis Walsh essentially made them cover artists, copying other people's songs (often from Country Music) that had already been done better. Like wedding entertainers they were bland and without substance. Westlife's karaoke version of Terry Jacks' meaningful Season in the Sun made me shudder. A lot of Take That material was crap, but at least it was original crap usually. They tried not to ruin good songs.

I like Club Tropicana and Last Christmas (though it's overfamiliar around the festive season). Ah well, sue me. :D

:D
I agree, Westlife's versions of the meaningful I Have A Dream (ABBA) and Seasons In the Sun (Terry Jacks) were terrible and destroyed all the emotion of the originals :x. Boyzone's version of Love Me For A Reason was exactly the same as the Osmond's version :D

That said, I really liked Boyzone's version of Father and Son, IMO better than Cat Stevens' version :)

Cat Stevens doesn't exist anymore, just Yusuf Islam.

Yusuf then. But when he originally sang Father and Son in 1970, he was plain old Cat Stevens, so I think we can call him that without causing offence ;)
