As for Brenda, I suspect her performance of IWALY will be based on Whitney's version, not Dolly Parton's. Two Whitney songs in one night? Hmmm....

I think the Conways are likely to be bottom two, as for the others I couldnt say. Even Shayne sounds at risk. As you say, if Chico does his thing he'll go through.

I think the Darkness song will really highlight the fact Shayne can't do falsetto, plus the words are sung very quickly.

Chico.. hmm. Still don't know. I love most of Michael Jackson's 80's catalogue... he could crash and burn. Mind I said that about "Chico Time"

At least it suits him better than "Hero".

Mark what film does the song "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" come from? The original sounds very 80's.

The original was by Starting Line.

Didnt see Xtra Factor (will see the repeat), isnt the fact Chico has a second single lined up a bit fishy?

Its' called PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) or something like that.

I think the "Chico Time as 60's song" thing is fake, though the Brazillian Chico is a real person, he was a big star.

Watched the X Factor rehersals programme. Funny to see clips of Pat Sharp from back in the day (complete with mullet!)

Rehersals - oh dear... Chico sounded dire and pretty rubbish during his soundcheck. Good dance moves though!

Conways - amazingly, not too bad (but they were minus the one who plays the piano).

Not sure about the vocal coach Mark (the guy with the purple beard) though, he kept on laboring the point that the judges might say bad stuff to the Conways as they were singing their own song, and when Ben asked him he wouldnt say they sounded any good even though the other coaches said they did.

Pat Sharp's mullet is legend.

One of the top ten mullets of all time.

Up there with Billy Ray Cyrus.

And there's not much you can say about a middle aged man with a purple goatee is there...? Sharon hangs out with plenty wierd people. Or as she calls them: family.

I have a feeling Chico will be relying on his fanbase to carry him through, as will maybe Shayne... I'm expecting an exit a la Philip when he "performed" Chuck Berry. The Darkness doesnt seem right for Shayne at all.

I'm surprised X Factor didnt show any footage of Pat Sharp on the legendary show Fun House!

Thoughts so far:

Chico - great dancing and entertainment, the bit where the kid came on was brilliant, but it veered dangerously close to a Stars In Their Eyes impersonation of Michael Jackson at times

Conways: Pretty good but a bit boring also. The part where one attempted to sing over the top of the others was terrible.

Andy: Not bad but the fact he missed his cue may go against him. He was better towards the end.

Shayne: He looked like he was having fun but it felt really wierd hearing a song which is basically a parody of Queen and 70's rock coming out of his mouth, he was just imitating Justin Hawkins vocally. When he did Timberlake, it was just a copy of Justin Timberlake.
BUT he did pull it off overall, somehow it worked

But if Louis things wandering off the stage into the audience and touching them is entertaining/playing to the crowd, he needs to look at what Chico does.

Brenda: Superb. Possibly the best vocal performance of the night.

Didn't need to. It was already 2/3 against the Conways.

My verdict:

CHICO - Great fun - but too indebted to Michael Jackson. I'm wary of cheese, but the kid made me smile and it's impossible not to like Chico.
THE CONWAYS - Started off not so hot with the lead singer revealling her sometimes-weak voice, but picked up when the more powerful singer took over. A great song, mediocre rendition.
ANDY- The dodgy start was forgiveable because he got back on track and did a smooth rendition. However I'm starting to feel a touch of repitition here. He may not make it to the final.
SHAYNE - Bizarre. I don't like the song and the performances was a blatant copy. But Shayne did show more charisma than usual which obviously counts for something. No more gimmick songs please.
BRENDA. A different class. If judged purely on tonight's performance she's my tip for the winner.
JOURNEY SOUTH - Very good cover of a U2 song which to my mind surpassed the original. I hope these guys make the final three.

I loved the litttle guy in Chico's performance as well, especially the "Ahh.. not YOU again!" bit.

(Chico slaps his head in disbelief). Pure theatre!

I had a feeling he'd come on because of the "The kid is not my son" line, but as you say he made me smile too. I think the assessment of indebted to Jacko (felt too much like a take off) at times, is right, but great fun!

He was obviously going to get slated for copying whatever he did (from Simon anyway). I heard Chico say MJ was one of his idols, it was a damn sight better performance than Nicolas the other week.

One of the Conways (Marie?) I think, and Chico are apparently dating.

Andy is very good but seems to do the same types of songs all the time

At least the others try different genres.

I think one of Sharon's acts will go next week. :

Just seen Journey South - Very good also, great performance.

I agree about Chico, its almost impossible not to like him. He always seems very gracious and despite his onstage antics quite humble too.

I thing Chico should do Gun's rock version of Word Up next week as one of his songs. Also a good one would be Mambo No. 5 (Lou Bega). He's got the outfit bang on.

Or, failing that, The Lonely Goatherd from The Sound of Music

Or even "She" by Charles Azanavour (sung to Sharon).

OK I'm rambling now. I think as each act does 2 songs - maybe one should be done acoustically ie no backing track, no singers, dancers, cute kids etc

The other one can be as OTT as they like.
