PC help/question

Post by grim_tales »

Is it worth installing anti spyware/adware software? :)
I have a Virusscan/checker and Firewall (the latest Mcaffee ones). I'm sure there's other crap it doesnt pick up which makes our PC run slowly (mind you since this is technichally a 2nd hand machine there's loads of rubbish on there we don't need).

I heard on a programme called The Gadget Show (on C5) about 2 free programs (SpyBot: Search and Destroy and Spy Doctor).

What do you think? :)

If its a second hand machine, the 1st thing I'd do is wipe it and reinstall a fresh version of Windows - that way you get rid of all the junk that you don't need, as well as any existing spyware / adware.

I use the free version of AVG Anti-Virus to do my virus scanning & then Ad-Aware SE (again, free) to search for spyware.

Try those programs out! :)

If there's no TOP SECRET documents or personal info on your PC (like you're a spy for the CIA) I would imagine free software will suffice.

Shit, he found out, Grim! Kill him! :D

I recommend first of all to just format your computer, then re-install only the shit you need. Then, just install a good virusscanner and a good spyware killer (I personally have both spybot and ad-aware, and mainly use spybot) and you're good to go.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...
