Eminem - Curtain Call - The Hits

Post by thelostdragon »

Wow! Got that album a few days ago. If Eminem is really going to stop his career as a rapper in order to focus on his family, then this album is one great final piece.

My two favourite songs on this album so far:

When I'm Gone
Mockingbird

I have them on my mp3-player, listen to them at home and at work and they aren't getting boring.

It's a greatest hits album, what do you expect? Lose Yourself is the best eminem song IMO

Lose Yourself is fucking awesome, I agree. I'm not a big fan of all his work. Some is pretty juvenile and deals with topics I personally cant really relate to, but that song is class, as are a bunch of others...

My favourite rap-album is still Nas' 2nd Album, It was Written.

Mark, check out the song "When I'm Gone" by Eminem, which he wrote for his daughter. This guy is a modern poet, I swear! 8)
Wikipedia describes this song the best in my opinion, in terms of the final dream passage etc...

As far as rappers go... Eminem is better than most.

If only because I can actually sit thru some of his tracks without wanting to put a gun in my mouth. Not the silly ones, which I can't be bothered with, but more serious stuff like Stan and Way I Am, which at least seems to have a point to me. It doesn't make them any more aesthetically pleasing to me, but it does help make them more tolerable. If his lyrics for those two songs I mentioned were set to a different musical genre I would probably praise them.

And that's as nice as I'm gonna be........ :D

"Stan" is nice. Didn't like "Way I am" that much. As I said, check out "When I'm Gone". This is his best in my opinion.

I have the LE on order from CD WOW, it's for my bro. for Xmas but I'll probably make a copy first.

The interesting point for me about Eminem is A: He's white he is almost unique in this fact and B: He doesn't seem to be solely about gangsters, smacking bitches around (their words) and shooting people. That's not to say he doesn't swear or cite homophobia in his lyrics but those are both deliberate to cause controversy (i.e - I don't believe he is homophobic).

Let's face it the fact he's white has had a succession help on his success. He's the "only" hip hop star I like, that said I've listened to his albums and most of the non-singles I don't really like.

I don't know how exactly Elton John has put it, when other gay singers were moaning about him making a duet with Eminem at the Grammy show, but he said something like, 'You guys do not seem to be intelligent enough to get Eminem's lyrics.'

Let's face it the fact he's white has had a succession help on his success.
LOL, funny I'm reading this as this reminds me of a quote from Eminem:
"It seems like 'white' magazines such as Spin and Rolling Stone focus on my 'whiteness' more than Black magazines".

I heard the new song you guys were talking about in Megastore today.

Didn't like it.

Tuneless and irritating.

I lost track of the lyrics very quickly as the aesthetics were doin' me bleedin' head in.

The tone of the rapping was all wrong. Agressive - isn't it always? - when it shouldn't have been.

As soon as it was over I couldn't remember even remotely how it went.

The words: "Emperor's New Clothes" spring to mind.

Mark: if you wanna listen to rap/hiphop with a massage, just try listening to the nas song 'I gave you power'. In it, he portrays the life of a gun, and it's just very very good.
'It was written' has a bunch more very good songs, some with a great message (Black Girl Lost), some sounding like scenes from a gangstermovie (but in a good way, not glamourizing it).
He has some other very good songs sprayed cross his other albums, but after It Was Written, he kinda went in all directions, so some of the shit is also pretty crap. It seems that at the moment he's returning to hiphop with a message again, instead of trying to portray a 'badboy'.

But anyway, try to find and give 'I Gave you Power' (from the 'It was written' album) a chance... I'm sure you'll be impressed with the lyrics.

Why can't they sing instead of rap?

Why do people like the sound of rap?

LOL, why can't singers rap, he he he? Personally, I am not someone who only listens to rap and hip hop. I like all kind of music.

You lost track of the lyrics? You're a native English speaking person. With most rap songs, I need like 10 times to listen to them to fully understand the words. I understood everything of "When I'm Gone" right the first time I had heard it.

As for agressiveness... hmmm... I'm surprised, because I found it less agressive than the songs by Eminem you have enjoyed ("Way I am" and "Stan").

Are you sure you have listened to "When I'm Gone" or "Mockingbird"... lol? :D

That's an oxymoron. Rappers can't sing. :D

Rap isn't English. It's ebonics. I don't speak that.

Those songs suited agressive tones. But the cock was singing about his daugher wasn't he? I would be scared if I were that poor kid.

Wohooo... seems like I do. The more languages one knows, the better.

Hmmm... so do you mean the tone was agressive, or the content of the lyrics? Like when he raps about how his daughter talks to him and he ignores her by saying, "I don't know, go play baby, Daddy's gotta catch a plane."

Is that what you meant?

Well, there was no variety of tone in the vocal perfromance. It's a song about his young daughter but his sings it as if he were about to smack some bitches up. Where's the gentleness you would associate with a child? If that's how he 'talks' about his kid, god knows how he talks to her. A song like Way I Am is an agressive rant against the media, tonally it works. But this latest song, however potent the lyrics may be, is as a performer outside of Eminem's limited range.

It's not how he talks about his kid, but about how he regrets not being there for her, so he's angry with himself and his tight schedule and busy lifestyle, so he feels he has neglected his daughter/family...

BTW... seems like he's back together with his crackwhore Kim.

Yeah, but there didn't seem to be any passages where he rapped about his daughter in anything other that agressive terms... is he so self-obsessed that his anger consums his every fibre? The song isn't about his daughter. It's about HIM. It always is.

I listened to the album last night. I had to make a copy before giving it to my Brother.

Track 1 is an intro and is okay, track 2 called Fack is clearly Eminem trying to be cool by twisting the sound for FAG. It's fucking atrocious. I've deleted track 2 from my MP3 Player list, awful. Why include it?

It's not a hit and I don't think has been released.

BUT thankfully if you skip tracks 1-2 and start at 3 the album is simply outstanding. One great, very clever song after another. I particularly like "I am who I am".

I tell you the American Government and media could learn something by listening to Eminem's lyrics, that man talks some truth.

I like Eminem but wouldn't buy his alums as I only like the singles.

I used to own "The Real Slim Shady" and thought most of it was not my for me (the blowjob song was just weird, literally blowjob sucking noises). That's why this Greatest Hits for me at least is so good.

p.s - It's not even meant for me :D

Zhang Ziyi learns English from Eminem

2006-01-16 22:44:06 Xinhua English

BEIJING, Jan. 17-- Memoirs of A Geisha star Zhang Ziyi's method of learning English nearly landed her in trouble, as she picked up the language by listening to and repeating obscene Eminem lyrics.

The Chinese screen beauty studied music and commercials to learn words and phrases, but she admits she wasn't initially aware of how offensive her Eminem-style English was.

She explains,"It was television commercials and Eminem.

"I loved to watch the commercials because they pronounce their words so clearly.

"I don't always know what(Eminem) is talking about, so I write down the lyrics and repeat them.

"Later, I understood how rude they were."
