Passed my driving test (finally!) - now which 4x4 to buy?

Post by BiscLimpkit »

Well I've finally passed my driving test. I was pretty nervous as the examiners are damn strict in Aberdeen. The weather conditions were horrible, I'm surprised my test wasn't canceled. Snow and water everywhere.

Anyway I made it so I don't have think about it anymore. :D Good luck to Brad for his test, which is coming up soon?

Anyway I'm interested in buying a 4x4. I don't want a huge monster like a Land Rover or Jeep. I'd like something a bit more compact but not at the expense of power. Something like a small Toyota Rav 4 or a Suzuki Grand Vitara? I'd maybe even settle for a Honda CR-V maybe....

...the problem is that many of these four wheel drives are for image only and do not have that much power. I need a vehicle that can withstand slippy country roads.

At the moment, I can't bloody drive anywhere!!! :x

Cheers dudes.

PS: I know nothing about cars.

Congrats man :D

Well, i know nothing about cars also...and all i can tell you is that my gas-guzzling Jeep is equally as good if not worse in poor weather conditions then my friend's Pontiac Grand Prix. I hate SUVs.

Congrats. How many tests did you fail?

BUT a 4x4 for your very first car, that sounds like a bad idea. Get something cheap and small as you're bound to prang it in the first year.

I'm thinking of a Vauxhall Corsa but no nothing about cars either and am not going to look until I pass.

22nd of December for me. Third time lucky!

A Corsa would struggle where I live.

The roads are rough, ungritted and the snow causes the vehicles to slip all over the place. We have a Nissian Micra which cannot be used right now as the conditions are far too dangerous.

That's why I figured a 4x4. I'm not a huge fan of them, but I may need one to get in and out of the countryside this winter.

But I'm open to suggestions.

I passed 3rd time but it was a worse drive than my 2nd test (where I should've passed imo). The guy failed me for time wasting during a reverse round the corner. What's the price of safety these days? That guy was a moron - he couldn't distinguish between serious and minor mistakes. Luckily this woman examiner I had was far more honest.

Be sure to let us know, hope the conditions are good for your drive.

It's your own fault you do choose to live in Scotland :D

It's cold at the moment but barely any frost and no snow. It's more likely to be to sunny than snowy on Thursday.
