Don't Stop Me Now would have been a better song for Chico (performance wise), had he still been there, than Shayne IMO but I don't think either Chico or Shayne could have pulled the vocals off.

Gonna watch X Factor tonight - you'd think with there being less people they could do more soundchecks etc on Xtra Factor or full songs - the "funny" stuff they do annoys me.

The contestants seemed genuinely upset when Chico left the house. I'm sure he was sad inside too, but as always he was optimistic and put on a brave face

He was on Ministry of Mayhem this morning too, which was actually funny

I agree he would be great at that sort of thing (presenting or children's TV).

Did you see tonights show Mark? I missed it. But I did see the last performance:

SHAYNE: Unchained Melody - very good and sung very well - but by GOD that song is so boring

As to Louis's comment "You made it your own" - bollocks!

I'm sorry, but that song has been covered so many times, and all he did was sing it boyband style. The sod also sang "If Tomorrow Never Comes" (Ronan Keating) as his first song, instead of the Queen song.

Can't believe Brenda went

Journey South's performance of "Let It Be" was far too shouty and clappy IMO, but Brenda's last performance of Without You was outstanding.

I was shocked and disappointed that Brenda was voted off. She should have won the entire competition but didn't even get to the final. An outrage. The public suck cocks in hell.

This has to an extent ruined the show for me - even more than Maria's early dismissal.

I did see the entire show (what were you doing Grim that was soooo important??)

ANDY - 'Everything I Do' wasn't good and again highlighted the man's limitations as a performer. The Stevie Wonder song was better, but to me Andy should have gone tonight. He has no future as a recording artist.

JOURNEY SOUTH - Didn't like 'You're in My Heart' it was bland karaoke (and not a song I've ever liked) nor 'Let it Be', which surprisingly started well, but got into shouty chorus territory again. The only reason I would have voted off Andy instead of JS is because I still feel with the right songs they have potential. For a few weeks they were very impressive, but poor song choices have done them in lately.

BRENDA - 'Respect' was good, if not spectacular; but 'Without You' was great, and really streched Brenda's vocal abilities. She rose to the challenge and was frankly robbed of her place in the final.

SHAYNE - Had a very good week this week and earned his place in the final. Two ballads, predictible, but undeniably well sung. Any idea why he had to drop the Queen song?

Dunno, maybe it was a last minute thing.

I heard he lost his voice or something, and maybe the Ronan song would put less strain on his vocals.
I agree, Shayne sang his songs well, they were just bland IMO. I would of seen the show but I'd just been back from the Arsenal-Newcastle game so I missed it

I agree about the shouty stuff on Let It Be (heard it in the voting rundown). I dont know how the Beatles performed it live, if they ever did, but on record, it was never a shouty, clappy song. If JS wanted to do that they could have sung the chorus and ending to Hey Jude instead.

BTW, don't worry, even though Brenda didnt get through I think she, like Chico and Maria, will have more success than the winner.

I started out liking Andy but he's turned into this years Steve Brookstien IMO...

Shayne will so obviously win as he has the teen vote.

Andy's first performance was poo, the bit with the kids in the audience was just cheesy, unlike with Chico where it made you laugh. I thought they looked very uncomfortable, especially as the song is about a bloke serenading his lady.
Journey South's first song was sung well but very karaoke.
Brenda's first song was really good. Its a travesty she went out

Did you hear the audience boos when it was revealed she went out?
Shayne was very competent but bland IMO. (If Tomorrow Never Comes).
Andy's 2nd song was much better (Lately).
Journey South started well but, as I feared, the end of the song was far too shouty. I wonder what McCartney thinks? No doubt they'll get a call from him on Xtra Factor saying it was a great version

When the choir came out on stage I just thought "ARRGHH!"

Does Cowell think JS cant carry a song by themselves?
Brenda's performance of Without You was great, outstanding

Shayne was competent but bland also for Unchained Melody - fantastic my arse!

There was no need for the falsetto at the end.

Maria, Brenda or Chico should be brought back next week for some light relief. They usually have some crap person from the auditions on though.

Might as well be Chico then

If JS come 2nd or 3rd they will have more long term success than Shayne (IMO). Look at Lemar from Fame Academy.

Also Bruce/Mark did you notice Sharon's attempt to Irishize (is that a word?) Shayne after he sang the Ronan song, Sharon said "You sound really Irish when you sing that" and Shayne admitted he is Irish (he has an Irish family or something like that). Shayne is an Irish name isn't it, like Shay, Seamus or Sean (Sean is the Irish equivalent of John).

I also dont understand why Louis kept introducing Shayne the same way all the time - it got annoying "He's young, he's good looking, he's from Manchester".
Same thing with "He's young, he's coooool.. (er, no he wasn't).. its' Nicholas" or "4 young guys.. 4 great voices.. its' G4"

Still Sharon would always try to fit "fabulous" or "Chico Time" in her links so swings and roundabouts I guess.

Wonder what songs they will do next week?
Do you remember on Pop Idol they would have a big band week, a Christmas song week or whatever (cant they do Xmas songs in the final?) so they would sing songs theyre not normally used to singing. This would make it more interesting at times, I couldnt imagine Journey South doing disco or Chico doing Nat King Cole

(Actually that would of been funny - get Andy to do Kiss or Livin' La Vida Loca and Chico do a Nat King Cole song and watch them both die).

On Saturday, each finalist will do 3 songs - one of which is supposed to be a Christmas song, each.

My choices:

I'm sure Andy will do a crooning classic like White Christmas, The Christmas Song or Winter Wonderland

Shayne - Walking In The Air

Journey South: I Believe In Father Christmas (Greg Lake), or Do They Know Its' Christmas? (Band Aid).

Shayne has confirmed he is singing Daniel Bedingfield again, his Christmas song is gonna be When A Child Is Born and his third song is Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

I think When A Child Is Born is better suited to Andy's voice, IMO.

Very disappointed by Journey South doing Let It Be, particularly if they shout it and have the bloody choir at the end.

That will be a distraction and no doubt theyll come out for the last song as well. Why not Desperado or TFTEISYF? Two superb acoustic performances.

Shayne doing Over the Rainbow could be good or bad. If he bases it on Eva Cassidy's beautiful version but does falsetto on it he should be shot

Apparently there was a bit at the Comedy Awards where Chico was presenting an award, I didnt see it though. Mustve been quite funny though. This is what I heard happened:

Dara O Briain says "What Time is it"
On cue, our Chico says its Chico Time.
To which Dara says "Oh sorry, I thought it was 20 past" - implying his 15 mins of fame are up.

They were definitely taking the piss out of him, but he took it well. A shame I didnt see it.

Chico is turning out to be a star, even though he's out.

Unfortunately the final 12 WON'T be performing at the final, (or so I've read), they will congratulate the winners.
The crap people from the auditions will perform instead, so I reckon it will be Justin(e), Spirit and Destiny, Lotties at it again.. etc.

Anyone watching the final? Its' started now.

JOURNEY SOUTH - Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - on this occasion the sometimes shouty performance worked, and it was very good IMO

Didnt like their next 2 songs though - and sadly Let It Be fell into the same trap as last week.

ANDY - 3 superb performances - especially When A Man Loves A Woman and the carol (O Holy Night).

SHAYNE: If You're Not The One was superb, the two others were merely bland and competent. His falsetto at the end of Over The Rainbow was terrible - Judy Garland and Eva Cassidy must be turning in thier graves.

I didnt like the winners song either - Thats' My Goal is a syrupy power ballad along the lines of All This Time by Michelle McManus - I think Andy did the better version though, in comparison he sounded more soulful.

I expected this though - its' a bit like Westlife - over the last few weeks I've found Shayne bland and uninteresting - but he's a good looking lad who can sing the ballads well, so has the teen vote in his pocket. What's the point of searching for someone with the X Factor (ie something different) if all you do is find someone who does nothing more than intersperse competent vocals with showy falsetto?

I've not been watching it seriously, just bits n bobs. Watched some of the final last night and I thought that the bin guy would win (due to sympathy votes for being a bin guy).

I prefer American Idol to X-Factor/Pop Idol. However I reckon these guys will have fame for like 2 years max... before they go back to being regular people.

I realised whilst watching the final last night that I didn't care who won. My favourites Brenda and Maria were already gone. Most of the performances last night were average at best and I didn't see "a winner" on stage. The judges gushing was an embarrassment. And for simple Simon to say Shayne's Over the Top, er, Rainbow was the series' best performance was utter bollocks. I thought it was a near disaster. I like the Eva Cassidy version myself. But then if she were still alive and applying for X-Factor she'd have been voted off ages ago. The new song isn't hideous, but I certainly won't be buying it that's for sure. I enjoyed the series as a whole, but the final was unquestionably a damp squib. But then it was the same for Strictly Come Dancing -- I don't know if anyone here watched/watches that one? The wrong person won for the wrong reason. That's the British public for you. Arses.

He was marvellous and deserved to win IMO, but I agree Shayne and JS were average

For Simon to say Shayne's OTR was the best performance of the series was ludicrous

His first song should have been renamed 'When a Man Shouts at a Woman' as it was loud and overbaked. The Xmas tune, 'O Holy Night', was much better, and the only performance of his last night I could honestly say I liked. 'Me and Mrs Jones' is a pretty naff song and again further dampened by constipated over-emoting. Frankly, none of the three deserved to win, and it's about bloody time they changed the judges next year, as their gushing is getting to be a joke.
