James Blunt: He sounds like a whiney bitch and he looks like a whiney bitch...
Can't fucking stand his 'You're beautifull' song, and just caught his newest single this weekend, and can't fucking stand that either. Just something about his voice that makes me wanna vomit...

Coldplay: Some nice songs, good melodies, but after a while they all kinda sound a bit alike. I don't hate coldplay, as I like a couple of their songs, but I wouldnt label myself a fan either...

It's kinda amazing that even after all these years, there still hasnt been a lead-singer that can compare with Freddie Mercury's voice, both in shear power, as well as in sensitivity. I think Mercury is probably the best vocalist of our time...

Who would you say is the best vocalist of the last century. I say last without fear of contradiction as it's hardly likely gonna be anyone who emerged in the last five years. :D

For the record I would say Elvis.

I also think Dean Martin is underrated.

And at his best Tom Jones was a powerhouse.

I'm not sure, I would say Elvis or Frank Sinatra in terms of vocals :)
And at his best, Michael Jackson was a genius.

Jackson's a top dancer, but never a great vocalist. He screetches too much. But seconded on Sinatra. Even though I do prefer Dino.

Your opinion on Jacko sounds like ours of a certain X Factor contestant - great performer etc.. ;) :P

No I know what you mean, I meant Jackson was a performance genius :)

Michael Jackson is a great entertainer not a great singer (as you say). However he CAN sing reasonably on some tracks which is more than Chico. lol

All right, I agree comparing Chico to Jackson in that way is ridiculous. :)
Sorry. :)

The generalisation I've come to is that you Brits' are easily amused by simple lyric songs with simple melodies. Eg Coldplay, Katie Melua, etc.
Although he's Irish would you class Damien Rice in the same catagory?

Yeah, she has a gorgeous voice, but after having heard the album a few times, I cant say I'm really into her music: kinda boring and samey
She looks pretty nice though...

Amen to that! :D
Not really my type of music either but at least its' different from most of the pop/boyband stuff we normally get. I feel the same way about Powter/Blunt at times, it does get annoying hearing the two big hit songs from them all the time - You're Beautiful and Bad Day (though i like the songs), but it could be worse. It could be the Frog :D

I like James Blunt's new song.

Goodbye my lover
Goodbye my friend
You have been the one (?)
You have been the one for me

*sniff* :(

Yeah, I cried when I heard Blunt's new song too... though obviously not for the same reasons.

Dolores O'Riordan from The Cranberries has a magical voice, pity the band dried up really a few years back.

Most overrated singer? Robbie Williams by a mile, he's not even a very good singer and pretty dull IMO. Why virtually everyone seems to love him I've never managed to work out.

Mark did say last century so that would actually fit, just.

p.s - I love Coldplay's 'Clocks' it has a really haunting tone to it but otherwise they all sound the same.

Williams is an enigma. He keeps coming up with tunes that stick in your head yet manages to be irritating and overexposed at the same time. He's an OK singer. But above average by today's low standards. Chris Martin sounds like someone's just farted out of key.

Coldplay's "Clocks" sounds a bit like a song by Erasure called "Breath of Life" to me.

BTW I agree about Robbie Williams, he's okay at singing, great at performing but rather overrated IMO, though "Angels" is a classic. :)

I wouldn't say that. There is still talent out there.

But yeah the 1970s for example has some really great singer/song writing.

The market is over saturated with manufactured singers who in honesty don't have much talent; sure the likes of the X-Factor winners can sing but actual talent I don't think so.

Not much. At least exposure wise. Maybe I've just never heard of them? Name some good ones for me.

Speaking of James Blunt, there was some guy on Stars in Thier Eyes last Saturday that impersonated him - he was utter pish - he couldn't even do the high notes of You're Beautiful properly.

:D He sounded nothing like him. The point of SIYE is to sound like the artist you're performing as.
The girl who sang as Crystal Gayle was pretty good though, had a voice beyond her years.

Just started listening to James Blunt. Aye pretty good stuff like. :D

Man, I always hear about music far too late. By the time I hear about them, they've already won a ton of awards and are "so yesterday".
