Jarhead (R1) in March

Post by grim_tales »

From DVD Times:
Universal Studios Home Video have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Jarhead for 7th March 2006. Sam Mendes directs this film based on former Marine Anthony Swofford's best-selling 2003 book about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwai. Jake Gyllenhaal stars alongside Jamie Foxx, Peter Sarsgaard, Chris Cooper, Sam Rockwell and Dennis Haysbert.

The film will be released in both single-disc (separate Widescreen and Full Screen versions, $29.98 SRP) and two-disc "Collector's Edition" (Widescreen, $39.98 SRP) forms, each offering the same feature presentation with English, French and Spanish audio (DD5.1 Surround) and subtitle options. The Collector's Edition will be a digipak with slip sleeve, and includes a Collectible Photo Book. Full details on the bonus features across these editions are still TBC, but will include exclusive behind-the-scenes features with Jake Gyllenhaal, in-depth featurettes, commentaries and interviews with real-life US Marines.
Thats pretty damn fast considering its not even at the cinema over here yet. Its' released this month in the UK. I've seen the trailer and it looks good :)

I'm looking forward to this, Sam Mendes is a great director.

He like many non-Americans seems to have a great interest in American culture.

Is it me or did the trailer/TV spot seem a bit like 3 Kings? Thats' probably only because its' a) a war movie b) seemed to imply there were lots of jokes/funny bits in it. Is it a comedy?

I'm sure it's a straight gritty drama.

I saw the first 30 minutes of 3 Kings and thought it was awful. I turned it off, it didn't help that the video was NTSC playing on a PAL VCR :D (so B&W) . I don't think it would've improved much being in colour though.
