Looks good, but not Mission Impossible. The first movie in the beginning was MI, but then it slowly went into Tom Cruise only...
The CIA mission was cool though, i did like that. Mission Impossible 2 was good, but again, it wasn't like the TV series, which i absolutely love.
J.J Abrams directed and wrote (I think) Lost, didnt he?
I agree Brad being director on a TV series (relatively small scale) doesnt even compare to directing a feature film.
Yes that is correct, J.J. Abrams did direct and write Lost. Hey does that mean we can expect every single character in Mission Impossible to have a flashback in some part of their life
I thought J.J. Abrams did well in Alias, if he can translate that to movie, then it might not be soo bad. At least we did not have Mc G (Charlie Angel) or Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, Red Dragon). Okay Rush Hour was good, but he couldn't handle Mission Impossible in my opinion, it is not suited to him. I really wish i could have seen David Fincher vision of Mission Impossible, think of the possibities. Tom Cruise character going mad or a surreal Mission Impossible. (Hey i wonder what it would be like if David Lynch got the director chair)

So what? Give him a chance, why not? If there never were any first good movies to a director's credits, what kind of shitty films would we have? I never liked any of the comedies John Woo did before he shot "A Better Tomorrow". I enjoyed some of his old school flicks, but what about these comedies he has shot previously. They weren't exactly good either.
I think the teaser looks good and the film seems to have some decent action sequences in it.
He is a SUPERB Director and its obvious you have not seen any of his work, and he is a stunning writer and storyteller also.
For you to say "Oh Dear" shows you how little you know about him really and how little of his work you have ever seen (which I am guessing is absoluley nothing!)
ALIAS and LOST are 2 of the best shows on TV , and LOST is maybe the best of all time at the moment, its that good.
Philip Seymour Hoffman looks like he is in another film, hope he acctually does something good for once as I hate the mans other roles. He hasnt even buffed up the fat podger
Just to clarify, Abrams is the co-creator and co-writer on Lost. He only directed the 2-part pilot episode. I personally didn't care for Alias.
He seems like a decent writer from his previous work (Regarding Henry is probably my favorite of his scripts), and he certainly has creative talent (confirmed by his involvement in writing Lost).
I'm interested to see how MI:3 turns out...but IMO there is really nothing he has done do far to earn the status of "superb director", especially for a big budget feature. We'll see.
Creating something (writing, collating ideas etc..) is for me a massive part of what makes a film (or TV show) and the pilot for Lost was stunning in every way and easily could pass for a film anyway as it was so well made and that alone made him jump up the Director list
Yeah, I'm a fan of the the JJ Abrams TV shows as well (Felicity, Alias S1&2, Lost). Personally I'm gonna wait and see how M:I3 turns out before I pass judgement on his directing abilities.
I dont know how he can handle say massive stars in a massive film mind you, but strangley it cannot be that different to TV, except you get a lot longer to make it all.
I think as long as a script hasnt been forced on him he will be fine, but if they have done it the wrong way and gave him an unfinished script which people will be changing al the time, then he has no chance at all.

Yeah but Woo didn't really want to make those f'n comedies. It was the only stuff the studio would give him at the time... untill one man - bless him - took a chance... That's about the only thing I'd ever thank Tsui Hark for
Judging JJ Abrams on the first couple of seasons of Alias he should do very well with Mission impossible III. However, judging on season three and four of Alias MI 3 could be awful. Only time will tell how good it is. I think as a writer he has proven himself but then again so had David S Goyer... Who would have bet he could have *ucked up Blade Trinity so royally?
I'm looking forward to seeing Maggie Q and hopefully this will boost her profile enormously. I thoroughly enjoyed Naked weapon even if most of the fight sequences could have been done better. Did anybody else like Naked weapon? As far as I know I'm the only person who likes it. The last I heard of Maggie Q she is supposed to be in talks to make a German action movie something which her and Bey Logan have been working on.
Alias season 3 and 4 I cannot understand why some people dont like them, they were very good. I think the fact he moved onto Lost maybe stopped him contributing to Alias mind you he seems to be the Lost man more than anything else now, or maybe Films will take over and he will leave TV behind personally I would rather see a TV show more than a film anyday as they last so much longer and you can do so much more.

LOL, thank God it's not like that. She is one member of Ethan Hunt's team. She was present on shooting locations in both Italy and Shanghai, so I take it that her screen-time will be a bit more than 7 seconds.
The reason why Alias started to go downhill from Season 2 onwards is because Abrams let go of the creative reins to move onto other projects (Lost and feature filmmaking).
Television is a writer-driven medium, if the primary creative force/the best writers leave then the show will naturally start to decline in quality.
