Munich - Spielberg's latest
Saw the trailer for this and it looks like Spielberg's back on form after the disasterous War of the Worlds.

The Tim Robbens sequence in WotW didnt ruin the movie for me. It was a lil bit o.t.t., but nothing more...
The ending nearly did ruin it for me...
The whole movie was terrific, but the (happy, unrealistic) ending was a major dissapointment. (I'm talking about the son-issue)
Munich is getting good reviews from unbiased reviewres. Most of the reviewers who wanted/expected a clear distinction between right/wrong, good/bad, and expected the movie to portray the palestinians as 100% evil, were dissapointed with it, and made the whole review of the movie about their own unrealistic hopes... and how dissapointing it was that they werent met.
It will be more interesting to see how the movie will be received world-wide. Political movies in the USA will always get shitty reviews from one camp, even if it's an honest & good movie, just because there are always groups of people who cant really handle the truth... or another view on a subject.

I thought the ending to WOTW was crap for the same reason as Yi-Long. Unrealistic Hollywood bullshit.
I thought that Palestinians were down on Munich too, not just Israelis. I haven't seen the film, but may check out the DVD down the line. I have to say if we get Palestinian sob stories over how brutal the Mossad avengers were and suggestion that the terrorism was in any way justified I'll be avoiding this like the plague. 9 dead innocent athletes is all I care to know.

Ow, I'm sure the 'palestinians' are down on it as well. Like I said, the movie doesnt make a clear distinction as to who was right and who was wrong etc in that conflict, so both camps have something to moan about as they would feel their side of the story isnt done justice with the movie, plus they probably feel the portrayel of the enemy is 'too romantic' or 'unrealistic' or whatever.Markgway wrote:I thought the ending to WOTW was crap for the same reason as Yi-Long. I think for a movie like this you will have to keep an open mind (which is probably hard to do if you have already sided with either one of the camps), just accept the movie for what it is (a movie), and if the subject interests you, do some further research, because this movie probably isnt intended as 100% FACT.
It sounds like an interesting movie to me, but I doubt I'll go see it in the cinema... which has nothing to do with the movie itself, but more with me not going to the cinema that often anymore...

I can understand why the movie has pissed off Jews. Spielberg has taken a true event, in which 9 innocent Jews died, and made it into a film, which, from what I gather, shows the terrorists in less negative a light than they should be, and the Israelis as cold-blooded facists. If Spielberg wanted to make such a film it would have been better to use a fictionalised story as relatives of those who died are bound to be upset.

Why do you say that? If you look at his back catalogue it's very diverse.romerojpg wrote:I will when I see itreally odd films the Berg is making latley
This looks awesome but I fear it will sway to much into Hollywood slush (that Spielberg has pioneered to often). It has the potential to be very gritty.

I thought it was a great film and it shows the rights and wrongs of both parties. It is also remarkably suspenseful, you could feel the tension in the audience.
It was an interesting idea to make a fictional story based around true events. However I can't help but think that there is an element of bad taste in there, especially for family members of the victims (from both sides). Perhaps Mark is right, it may have been better to make a completely fictional story.
However in terms of filmmaking, it's pretty decent yeah.
