A Better Tomorrow to be remade

Hi!

According to that page the legendary ABT is going to be remade.

I am very interested in what you think about it...

I´m not of the opinion that this remake is going to able to compete with the original, as the original cast was perfect (Chow Yun-fat IS Mark Ngor, so how can someone else play this role?) and John Woo isn´t directing.

But I´m looking foward to this one, as it´s going to be interesting to see what they try to copy and what they try to add and because I hope for a new recording of the ABT-theme...[/url]

I don't think it's needed but done well remakes can be acceptable.

I agree with you Brad but IMO the HK version is perfect as it is. Though technichally ABT is actually a remake too - it was based on a 1967 movie called "Story of a Discharged Prisoner".

*Yawn* On a related note there's a proposed Hollywood remake of JSA of all things - set on the USA-Mexico border. I don't see the logic in that move at all, probably just an excuse for Roy Lee to get more cash in his bank account.

I thought it was quite well known amongst the Asian film community who Lee is? He's the Korean-American bloke who buys the remake rights to pretty much every Asian film that shows crossover potential and then sells them off to Hollywood studios/production companies. Thus earning big chunk of cash plus at least an executive producer credit.

Here's his IMDB profile, it looks like pretty much every Hollywood remake of an Asian film in recent years he's had his hand in.

I don´t like all of those american remakes of asian movies. Even when they are good.
Seems as if american filmmakers are running out of ideas.

Btw: Wheren´t there also rumours about an Oldboy - remake?

They weren't rumours, uber-hack Taiwanese-American Justin Lin is attached to direct (he's best known for Better Luck Tomorrow, a shit movie about Asian-Americans doing bad things). Last I heard the project was put on hold cuz Lin went off to direct Fast & Furious 3: Tokyo.

I don't see the logic behind hiring him, but knowing how Hollywood execs are they probably figured "this guy is an Asian-American... then he's perfect for translating an Asian film for an American audience!"

Agreed however Departed being directed by Scorsese means it's going to be decent at the very least.

If there's one genre Scorsese is a master at it's the crime genre.
