Planet of the Apes (2001) - Part 2 - Any news?

Post by bradavon »

When I first saw this I thought it was a pale remake of the original classic. I still think it's not a patch on the original but on subsequent viewings it's not half bad.

The make up and how the actors move is considerably better than the original. You can forgive the make up but how life like the actors move could've been done in the original.

Anyway moving on: The end of POTA 2001 was left so open for a sequel but 5 years on nothing.

Is there any news out there?

don't think it made the money they thought it would.can't see a sequel coming off any time soon. i like the originals myself and am looking or a reasonably priced pre-order on the region 1 apehead especially as it's now confirmed it contains the extended version of battle for the planet of the apes previously only available on a fullscreen japanese laserdisc.

Yeah the acting from the apes was great I thought. Tim Roth especially as that evil chimp dude.

OMG I didn't know that. What's your source?

I was planning to upgrade my box set to the new box set. Now it's been confirmed to be the extended cut I'm definitely upgrading. I'll be getting the 6 disc Legacy box set not 14 disc version though.

I'd love to see an extended cut of "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" the second best after POTA.

Regarding POTA 2001 Part 2 I guess you're right. I'm sure it made decent money though.

Thanks
However, viewers watching it in French will have forced English dialog with French subtitles during the various extended scenes.
That sounds mighty odd to create a French dub but not for the extended scenes. Could they be separate deleted scenes???

After thinking about it I'm going to wait to see comparison reviews. I would be upgrading for the extended scenes, DD5.1 on the sequels and remastered PQ.

Unless the films really are remastered I'd have to think about upgrading. Battle for the planet of the apes is by far the weakest.
