Hey,

What do you think now the law has finally gone through - it has been banned in ALL public places, even private clubs as well as normal pubs etc - which is a bit OTT IMO

I think smoking is disgusting, so I dont mind a ban... They can smoke outside if they want. They're not paying for my stinking clothes to be washed, will they?

I hate going into a MacDonalds and someone 1 table away from me lights one up.

hmm the ban on smking has good and bad points,

i dont smoke and i hate that people do, my dad has smoked for 52yrs and now is very ill becuase of the damage smoking hsa done to him, so maybe the ban will give people the push they need to stop smoking.

but then again its people right to smoke but also nonsmokers not to smoke, in places that serve food and stuff then smoking i think its right to ban it, and in crowded places, but they are speaking of introducing bans so that if a care worker. or council worker visits your home you cant smoke while they are there, which in your own home is wrong IMO

but in clubs on the weekend then i would guess alot of people who go there smoke so it should be allowed i think.

I'm well in favour of the public ban... starts in Scotland on the 26th of March.

If you wanna get Cancer do it outside or in your own home... I don't give a shit if you're lungs turn black and die.

I think the bit about the health visitor is actually fair... they don't have a choice who's home they must visit for work. If you can't not light up for an hour go fuck yourself. Same for bastards in pubs 'n' clubs.

The smoking ban is a good thing, but it's a little pointless, as the real problem is that smoking is allowed in the first place. People know that it kills, people know that it costs a fair amount of cash for a pack of smokes, yet these same people are happy enough to put down their hard-earned, citing things like "It's my only vice," or "I have very few pleasures in life," etc.

I do have to say though, smoking looks cool (provided you're someone like John Travolta or Chow Yun-Fat)

If they allow it a place like McDonalds where kids' go, thats very wrong IMO - I just thought enforcing the ban onto private clubs is a bit much. But I agree with you BTW - I don't smoke (cant see the point) and if the ban improves peoples health and saves the NHS money then good thing IMO

plus the stink of mcdonalds will stain you clothes far more permanently than smoking

i think the private clubs thing is stupid, really stupid. if people want to kill themselves then fine, and there is ALWaYS work available for people who dont want to work in a smoky environment (its called being a packer in a factory), it is ludicrous that the nature of a business should have to change to appease the staff, we dont ban people from joininng the army because they might get shot, they know the risks and choose to sign up.

I disagree with that comment about businesses changing Mordib - if its' due to health and safety rules that the business must change then fine, if it protects them at work. And you're assuming the staff don't smoke - if they do they have to abide by the changes too, no?

My local has changed so now there is a designated smoking/non-smoking area in the place.

im suggesting that establishments should either be smoking or non smoking. staff who go to work in a smoking pub should not expect it to become non smoking because of them and the same vice versa. i am arguing against the claim that people have no choice where they work (and im not claiming that there are 0 cases of people only being able to find work in the local pub such as in small villages, merely that i dont think you should create a rule based on a few exceptions to the majority)

i guess im not explaining myself very well, i think people should be allowed to smoke in their own homes and in open air places that havent been designated as non smoking. I believe they should be allowed to smoke in privately owned comercial property where the owners have chosen to allow smoking.

I also believe that anyone who smokes should have to pay for any treatement they need because of their smoking, that if they cannot pay then they dont get treatment at all (exception here would be anyone that currently smokes, who would get 5 years fully funded help to quit before it came into effect for them).
