The R1 thinpak set? Great buy, the remasters and DD5.1 remixes are bloody excellent!

Don't bother with the original broadcast versions of 21-24, the DC's shit all over them.

Yup the very same, can't wait to watch this now. I seen some eps before, but haven't fully watched it. The reason why the thinpak is so cheap is because they just put the series and movies, there is no extras, but who cares

No idea, how it plays, as I've only put the thing into my player to see if it loads up.
Something I've noticed (don't know if it applies to all R4 DVDs or just this one); the cover of the DVD has the image on both sides - once with the giant M for mature logo, and on the other with no logo. Anyone know if this is standard practice, or if it's just's this particular film?

I'm still reading the Kurosawa book... usually read it on my way to school in the train, although it's kinda hard keeping up with all the different names etc in it...

It's by a German Wing Tsun practicioner who is the student of one of Yip Man's students (Leung Ting I think). He compiled many unpublished photographs and articles written by people from China, HK etc. It also features three pages or so written by Yip Man about Wing Tsun's history. (Next to the translation are pictures of the actual Chinese writings).l

I bought it in a huge bookstore in Cologne. Was quite pricey (17,95). Here is an Amazon link:

I was only lookinf for a Tae Kwon Do book which has the Korean names of all the moves and ended up buying the Yip Man book when I saw it. :mrgreen:

The good thing about the book is that it only has 1 page dedicated to Bruce Lee and how he used to train with Yip Man. He isn't even mentioned in the family tree, because there he just falls into the category of "Yip Man's students in HK". So the book really focusses on Yip Man.

Why were you looking for a book with the korean names of all the taekwondo moves anyway? Who cares what they are called? As long as they work and/or look good, I couldnt give a shit about their names.
I used to practice Taekwondo as a teen, but I never paid any attention to the names and such. I just knew the basic names I guess but I mainly just looked at the teacher what we were supposed to be doing next, and then I did it

I used to buy martial arts books, and my favourite ones are the flexibilty/kicking books by Jean Frenette (SP? cant be arsed to look it up...) and one by Cynthia Rothrock and some korean guy. Plus ofcourse I had the 4 Bruce Lee's Fighting method books, and Jeet Kune Do.

I really learned how to punch with power through that book, although I already naturaly had the right form as well... so not sure if I learned it from the book, but it did make me give my punching more attention. I even outpunched a boxer on one of those 'measure the power of your punch' machines you find at carnivals or, in my case, 6-flags

BTW... there was another famous wing chun german practitioner 10-15 years ago in Germany, who apparently had a big mouth or he had a beef with the Gracie family or whatever... whatever became of him? he was a big (Turkish?) guy with a pony tail. Cant think of his name at the moment.

Birol Özden? His school is in Cologne and he is really good. But expensive as fuck, so I can't be arsed to go and learn from him. Especially since he has this sect image to me. I know his son, Tufan, quite well. I was in the same pre-school with him. In his father's school there is also a security course where they also manage to find jobs for you for times when stars come to Germany etc. Well, you can guess what Tufan is working as. He is now one of the most highly paid bodyguards for German politicians. The last thing I heard of him was when he accompanied Gerhard Schröder to China. Damn him! I used to beat him up on the school ground as he was 2 grades younger than me.

I have a lot of books about martial arts and love reading about the theories and the names of the moves. I love the linguistic aspect of the arts just as well as the performance aspect. I think the only two books which ever managed to do something for me physically is "The Art of Zaijiuquan" (Drunken Boxing) from which I learnt the kip-up move when I was 15.
The other book is "The Art of Expressing the Human Body" by John Little. It is volume 4 I think of his Bruce Lee library. In this book, Bruce Lee's favourite training excercises are examined, from stamina, over stretching to muscle development. It also talks a lot about how Bruce Lee got into the shape of his body. So there is a chapter about Bruce Lee's diet, too. Until today I use training exercises from this book as they are really helpful. I like to do shadow boxing with dumbbells (5 kg each). Doing this for 5+ minutes really wears you out. But according to Bruce himself, this was how he developed his trademark snapping fist.

The Aussie censorship board late last year switched to using those massive rating logos. There was massive backlash from consumers (at least online), so some distributor's solution is to have dual-sided covers (one side w/o the massive rating logos) to appease consumers. Madman and Universal are the only distributors that I know of which do this.

Thanks for the info. At least the dual-sided covers show that the distributors are thinking about those that want classification info plastered all over the front of the DVD and those that want unspoiled cover artwork. Simple, and everyone wins.
