What's wrong with people nowadays ?

Post by tom2681 »

Why oh why do people listen to doctors and vets ?

It is widely known that most diseases (including cancer, aids, hepatitis) can either heal or simply disappear with time.
But NOOOOO.... whenever you get a scratch, contract a disease or hurt yourself, it's always: you need to get an operation, get vaccinated, this animal must be put down...

Today I mourn the loss of Havannah, my neighbour's dog.
Havannah was a beautiful Golden Retriever ( picture ), healthy, smart and full of life.

She was put down because she suffered from epilepsy (which is quite common with Retrievers), and her owners feared that she might become dangerous when she would have a crisis (it is true that dogs experience sudden memory loss in those circumstances).
Of course it's the vet that suggested it.

Stupid bastards.
My old Irish Setter Hugo suffered from epilepsy all his life. We couldn't leave him alone, so we stopped going on vacations.
He needed space, so we left him the whole backyard.
I'm proud to say that he died at the very respectable age of 19 (which is remarkable for a Setter).

If they had informed me, I would have adopted her in a heartbeat.
Stupid.

When you've got a sick child, you should work out solutions to make his life better.
Why wouldn't you do the same with a dog ?

I'm losing faith in the human race these days...
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

I assumed the emphasis was on the word can. Yes, there have been some rare cases where the diseases may well heal up, but on the whole, it tends not to be the case :(

Not to dump on your pain, but the comparison between a sickly child and a dog is a little heavy. :?

The key is to keep your immune system strong. Your antibodies can fight off cancer, but if you're unhealthy, the cancer will grow out of control and that's when it gets serious.

Yeah me too, certainly in the case of AIDS or some cancers, saying they will easily disappear or heal (you speak as if this is what mostly happens) is absolute rubbish. You can beat cancer, but to beat it you need an early diagnosis, you need to stay healthy (as Gasteropod says antibodies can fight cancer) and lots of luck.
Sometimes this is not the case :(

there is alot of research into AIDS, and well people think HIV = AIDS...wrong... HIV + Drugs = AIDS, the drugs they give you to "treat" HIV are drugs they used to use for cancer but were found to be too strong for the body to handle so they just use them for hiv instead...logical... i would really recocmmend the documentary "HIV AIDS fact or fiction" plus numerous other articles that can be found the web on pages such as http://www.rense.com AIDS is a lowered immunce system and its not acutally THAT that kills you but rahter you catch a cold nad your body cant fight it, but your still recorded as dying from aids. so if you missed the news falsh i seriously suggest to watch that documentary, interesting sutff.

It really sucks about the dog Tom, its really too bad they didnt allow you to look after him instead...my sister in law has a dog like this, its 14yrs old, and very sicktoo but she refuses to have it put down, gorgeous dogs

That's sad Tom.

I agree to an extend, people put down animals far to easily. We would never put down a human and even to the extent were it's supposedly better to let them suffer for years on end.

I've not seen the documentary but I'd have trouble believing the drugs they give you gives you AIDS.

But yes you're right you can't actually die from AIDS. Once your body has no defence system anything can kill it.

That's putting it incredibly simplistic. I wouldn't risk it thank you very much.

I am sure the hundreds of thousands of people who die every year would rather just wait it out.

actually history would suggest that things like aids do naturally die out - millions of people get infected, they all die,, there isnt enough population left to effectively support the distribution f the virus/illness anymore. this is only different in our time because we interfere, drag out the process by managing to heal the occasianal one or two.

on everything else though I totally agree, haven't been to a doctors since I was too young to have a say in it and if I do have to go to the vets I always question them thoroughly as to why they want to pick a particular course of action as often theres a much simpler cheaper alternative that does the same.

That was suposed to be a little joke :)

M mother is very ill and if she was to "wait it out" she would die very quickly, so really if anyone is willing to risk their life waiting go ahead, most people wont.

I have never seen a doctor since I was a kid mind you and am 28 years old, which shocksa lot of people. I dont feel to bad so hopefully I dont have anything really bad, I ust see some people going to the docs every week and think, what a waste of time for everyone involved, its only a cold etc...

Vets on the other hand are stranger, people want their animals put down for many reasons, some just cannot think of there loved pet in anothers arms I guess. We have lost all out cats recenty :( they were all perfectly healthy etc.. but it wasnt up to me sadly :(
