The Bourne Ultimatum Thread

This sounded interesting:

Producer Frank Marshall doesn't see why the series can't continue, either. In an interview with MTV, Marshall said that the longevity of the Bourne franchise was "up to Matt [Damon]. Maybe to five [films] ... At some point, he's gotta find out who he is."

In the meantime, Ultimatum is scheduled to begin production in August. It will be released in theaters in 2007. So far, the series star Matt Damon and The Bourne Supremacy's Joan Allen have been signed up. The producers are presently looking for actors to play the film's two main villains.

At any rate, it appears that Damon's character will not discover his real identity in Ultimatum. But when he does, will it be the end of Bourne?
Sounds good to me, I enjoyed Supremacy and especially Identity far more than Die Another Day.

*Waits for the slagging off of Pierce, labelling him a Ken doll*

:D Nah, j/k ;)

I hope they drop the awful editing for Supremacy you couldn't see any of the action.

Personally I think the Americans have released how popular 007 and want a slice of the action, 007 still being mostly British.

IMO Identity was decent, Supremacy was also good but was killed by the editing. Neither come close to the best 007 films IMO. I'm looking forward to the next 007 film much more.

That wasn't a 007 film as far as I'm concerned. It had more in common with "Fast and the Furious".

Only Halle's BIG boobies helped it :D

Huh? Didnt that blonde boss-lady from Supremacy tell Bourne his real name and identity, at the end of that movie? I could swear she did...!?

Personally, I thought part 1 was very good, and part 2 was decent, but completely ruined by the awfull action-scenes. My god, what a travesty. I nearly walked out of the cinema during those last scenes. It's slightly better on DVD, but still awfully bad nontheless.

I have no expectations for the next Bond btw. 'Ken' is gone, thank god, so thats an improvement, but if they keep the awfull writing and dont have a good memorable plot and villain, then they are just repeating the same mistakes but with the only difference that another guy is playing Bond.
Also, I would have preffered Jude Law as Bond. I feel Graig is a good actor, but he doesnt really 'look' like Bond should look. He looks more like a 006 or a 008...

But, I'm keeping an open mind and if it turns out to be a good movie, I'll be happy and I'll watch it. If not, then pfff... no big deal: I just wont watch it :)

I'm more excited about the new Bourne movie(s). Those movies DO have that old-style conspiracy, secret agent stuff going on, in a realistic setting and without the over-the-top stunts.

A good solid punch to a nose often has more 'impact' on the viewer, then a huge explosion where 10 cars fly up... when filmed right and when it has the right emotional impact. The Bond people seem to have forgotten that...

Yeah, I thought his identity was revealed as well :?
I noticed she said he was born in 1971 or something - if Identity was set in the 80's wouldnt Bourne have been like at most 18 years old or something?!

Brad I agree the shaky cam in the fights in Supremacy pissed me off. Thats why I enjoyed Indentity more overall (but Supremacy was still good).

OOoo excellent, im glad i was not the only one who hated the shaky cam and editing on the 2nd movie. It got so bad that i was feeling sick in the cinema, as the movement was just all over the place and really didn't focus on the actors. Really stupid which spoiled a really good movie IMO

I'm all for further instalments beyond a trilogy, as long as Damon remains, the acting is good and the writing is up to scratch. Supremacy survived Greengrass' epileptic camerawork becuz of the strong performances and the decent script.

Yeah it was, he's David Webb.

I noticed she said he was born in 1971 or something - if Identity was set in the 80's wouldnt Bourne have been like at most 18 years old or something?!
ARGH, don't tell me that I have to go over this again.
EvaUnit02 wrote: Actually the films are hardly anything like the books. The books were very much Cold War spy-novels (like Ian Flemming's stuff) and set in year they were written (early-mid '80's for Identity and Supremacy, early 90's for Ultimatum). Identity only shared the premise with Robert Ludlum's book and Supremacy shared only the original book's title.
The films are set in the year in which they were released, 2002, 2004, 2007, etc.

Major differences include:- Marie is a Canadian econonist, not a German vagrant. Conklin doesn't die at the end of Identity. Marie doesn't die in Supremacy. There's a major antagonist (at least in the first two, dunno bout the 3rd) in the series:- a notorious assassin called "The Jackal". Etc etc etc....

I must be the only one who doesn't mind the shaky cam. I think it adds to the film's frenicity (is that a word?).

Ken?

I'd be surprised if what you say happens, they seem really keen to get back to basics.

You seem to be basing your opinion on 4 of 20 Bond films. The Connery films are very different to the Brosnan ones (of which I personally think are greas DAD aside).

Is the Identity book set in Europe? Because personally I thought it really worked her being European.

Franka Potente is also a good actress.
EvaUnit02 wrote:Marie doesn't die in Supremacy.
This was clearly a way to get rid of her easily but man I was so pissed when this happened.

I'd agree if it was SOOO OTT.

He means Ken as in Barbie's boyfriend, ie a plastic doll ;)
I still think overall Brosnan's first three Bonds were fine action thrillers, and you're right the early Connery films are very different, films like Goldfinger, From Russia With Love and You Only Live Twice are outstanding :)

Like Grim said, I felt Brosnan looked like a Ken-doll instead of a secret agent.

I didnt say it WOULD happen. I said that if they fail to fix all the shit thatw as wrong with the last couple of Bond movies, it doesnt matter who the actor is as it would still be shit. Luckily, it seems they want to take it into another direction this time.

Ehm... I know!? I never said I didnt like the older Connery ones, cause I DID like those. But ever since License to Kill it went wrong with Bond, replacing story with big ass explosions. I'd like them to go back to the basics, which was what made those old Bond movies so interesting. Interesting stories and memorable villains.

It's a shame that the same director of Supremacy is back for the sequal. I really couldnt stand those action-scenes. They were horribly filmed. If they'd fix that, it would be good though, cause the rest of the movie was fine, although I think I prefer the first one...

Oh it's very unfair to blame Brosnan for what we were given. He was told what to say/do.

Yeah, perhaps. But I just dont like him very much as an actor either. He PLAYED a Secret Agent, instead of BEING a REAL one. Some actors will really transform on-screen in something realistic, while his portrayal was more like a parody on the 007 character, except without the intention of humour.
I would have liked it if he had been a bit more realistic, instead of all the 'suave' wink-wink shit.

Daniel Craig is a very good actor though, so in that sense I'm curious to see how he'll do.

I also wish they'd keep the same villain for more than one Bond film. I love those 007 flicks where the same villain returns.

Sure they can no longer use Blofeld (sp?) but they could always create a new one, does he have to actually die?

Jaws was awesome too, until he went good that is.

That fat Sumo/Japanese guy was great as well. Making a little package :)
Goldfinger was a classic.
Christopher Walken was also a baddie I believe?

I hope they'll find a memorable baddie again...

Christopher Walken was in a View to a Kill wasnt he?
If it werent for the weak villains (the concept in GE was quite interesting though) GE, TND and TWINE would have been perfect IMO. Jonathan Pryce was the wrong choice for TND - I mean, for one the villain has to be a physical match (as well as intelligent) for Bond, and Pryce was just camp. Stamper (the German guy) in TND was better.
Rick Yune was a far better villain in DAD than the main one (Toby Stephens).

Latest rumour:- Gael Garcia Bernal is playing the baddie in The Bourne Ultimatum. (source)

Can one of the mods please re-title this thread to something like "The Bourne Ultimatum thread"? Thanks.

Grim's done it for you.

That's a hard one to call, while I'm sure he'll be ace I hope it doesn't mean a downhill spiral for Bernal.

I highly doubt he'll be typecast as a villain in Hollywood becuz of this one film. If the film is a massive critical AND commercial bomb then it might kill his Hollywood career in the worst case scenario (like Batman & Beyond did for so many of it's castmembers. Only George Clooney's, Uma Thurman's and maybe Arnie's careers survived but and even then they were slowed down significantly for a good few years.)

Grrr. I'm not at all surprised, Greengrass loves it. It worked very well in United 93 but in Bourne it's just annoying. Still at least it looks more real than the usual Hollywood stylised approach.

On my old AMD Athlon XP 2500+ I used to watch the 480p trailers as the HD ones never worked properly.

I'm just downloading 1080p and 720p to try on my new Core 2 Duo. I usually end up keeping the 480p version as the HD ones take up way to much disk space. 480p looks pretty good still, way better than the cruddy Hi Res. version.

The Bourne Trailer is up on Dave's Trailer page, scroll down and you'll see it:

http://www.davestrailerpage.co.uk/

As usual he's posted all 4 resolutions, if you struggle downloading or playing the HD ones the 480p one is bound to work (unless your PC is ancient).

I dont like the shaky cam either (one thing that brought Supremacy down a notch compared to Identity IMO) - on the other hand the trailer is cut quickly together.
Is it the same director?

Yes. No offence, but use IMDB or google next time instead of asking stupid questions. Hell I've even mentioned it in this thread before.

Was that Franka Potente I saw in the teaser? Obviously not the first shot of her. I doubt it was but hope it was.
