The Fifth Element UE: R1

Post by grim_tales »

I thought there was a SB Deluxe of The Fifth Element already (as it seems this DVD uses the same picture and audio as the earlier SB DVD), but all the extras are new.

I remember enjoying TFE in a trashy sort of way back in the day (I was about 15 when it was released in cinemas ;) ), don't know if I'd buy this though. Brad (or anyone else) what do you think?

LOL that cover art is horrible! :D

Cool I've yet to own a copy of the film. Despite the horrendous cover, if this is indeed a Superbit... then it's mine.

According to the Amazon.com review it is a Superbit Deluxe DVD in all but name (there's a tiny SB logo on the back cover).

There is no SB Deluxe, there is a SB DVD already but no SB Deluxe. Having said that this is effectively a SB Deluxe DVD but has been labelled the UE instead. There was speculation at the time if it would use the same transfer. I highly doubt it won't be.

Considering the picture is better on the SB than the UK R2 SE this is the one to own.

p.s - Grim I saw it and thought it was nothing special. I much prefer Leon.

Superb film I saw it 2 times back to back in the cinema

(only becuase the projection booth caught fire and the last 30 seconds went off haha se we got free tickets to ee it, so we went straight back in)

The film is an amazing film in soo many ways, conedy, action, georgous visuals and the music! I own the new UK version full bit rate DTS, but the pictures not perfect, but hey nice packaging :D

So will you upgrade? This will probably have half bit-rate DTS like the SB.

The first (AFAIK) US Ultimate Edition vs UK SE vs US Superbit comparison:

http://www.dvddebate.com/modules.php?na ... e&sid=5085

Another great comparison from the guys at DVD Debate.

We all knew the PQ would be better than the UK SE but it's good to hear the extras are better too. It's a pity the DTS isn't full-rate as it must sound amazing on the UK SE but as they say the PQ is more important here.

I've not seen this for ages and didn't think to much of it when I did. I need to give it another chance so when the UE/SB Deluxe is below a tenner I'll get it.

p.s - Romero surely you don't want me to copy/paste this here do you? I'll get my coat :D
