Finally, someone else who thinks EWS is total pants. Vanity trip bollocks.bradavon wrote:Eyes Wide Shut is a mess. What a self indulgent mess,
You talking about the score? That repetitive piano playing the same few notes over and over drove me up the wall, fucking awful score.the soundtrack is good though.
Speaking of Kubrick, Full Metal Jacket is one of the HD disc format launch titles. It'll interesting to see what they do with the aspect ratio. The native ratio of HD is 1.78:1, so maybe the film will be matted to widescreen? Or it possibly might be in anamorphic pillarbox, thus preserving the 4:3 unmatted ratio.

The spider-walk scene was only removed from the original TC cuz it looked laughably fake. The wires were digitally removed and it was sped up for the 2000 alternative cut.bradavon wrote:The Exorcist: This is supposed to be scary right? What an overrated film, decent but hardly scary. The ONLY scary scene was cut, that being the Spider scene.

Nope I was talking about the Chris Issak song.EvaUnit02 wrote:You talking about the score? That repetitive piano playing the same few notes over and over drove me up the wall, fucking awful score.
I didn't know that. I've only seen the 2000 DVD, it was effective in that.EvaUnit02 wrote:The spider-walk scene was only removed from the original TC cuz it looked laughably fake. The wires were digitally removed and it was sped up for the 2000 alternative cut.
The thing is The Exorcist is supposed to be the most scary film ever made. Yes it's shocking to see a young girl speak in such a vulgar fashion and put crucifixes in places they really shouldn't go but but scary???

The "hackjob" as you put it wasn't done by United Artists, but by Leone himself for international release. The extra sequences in the "restored" version are almost all extraneous. And while we're at it the restoration isn't a director's cut since some footage is still missing from the Italian release. Thus the only one of the two that Leone oversaw was the theatrical cut.

I thought he was just replying answering the question, anyway it's not important.Markgway wrote:I'd ask why Romero was laughing about my use of the term "mono" but I don't really care as I'm sure it's something I'd disagree with anyways... 8)
Is that right? I despise when they do this.grim_tales wrote:and the dialogue is wierdly spread over all 5 speakers.

Yeah, made after pressure from United Artists.Markgway wrote:The "hackjob" as you put it wasn't done by United Artists, but by Leone himself for international release.
I never said that it was a DC. It's much closer to Leone's original vision than the US TC.\And while we're at it the restoration isn't a director's cut since some footage is still missing from the Italian release.

Leone spent a long while recording gunshots in a valley until they sounded how he wanted (I wouldn't say that's as extreme as say Zhang Yimou waiting until the seasons changed to film though). John Kirk reportedly replaced alot of the gunshots for the 5.1 remix, also they haven't pitch-corrected for home theatre viewing and are still "loudened" for cinema viewing.grim_tales wrote:Its not a good 5.1 remix, the gunshots sound all wrong - .
Actually alot of the dialogue is still rooted in the centre, just some it has been made directional in some scenes (eg when the speaker is off screen).and the dialogue is wierdly spread over all 5 speakers
Nah it sucks. If you want a 5.1 remix of a Leone film "done right", see Once Upon a Time in the West and Once Upon a Time in America - they preserve all the original foley effects AFAIK. I still prefer the original mono though when it's available.romerojpg wrote:Its acctually a great 5.1 remix.
Have any of you seen OUaTiA? Now that's a great film, easily dwarves Godfather 1&2 IMO.
