R4 2046 2-disc LE tin - do you want one?
When I was in Borders on Monday I noticed that they still had 3 copies of the ultra-limited R4 2046 2-disc LE tin - the best English-language release in the world featuring the transfer + sound taken from the French master. (The store originally got in 4 copies, I bought one of them over a month ago so they obviously aren't moving. I doubt that they will move any time soon either, since it's a very "niche" film.)
If anyone wants I'd be willing to act as a "transaction conduit" for purchasing some.
To be honest I don't know how to go about methods of receiving wired money from overseas. Could you guys tell me about how stuff like Western Union, Paypal, etc. work?

Do you have a PayPal account? I presume you do as you use eBay, right?
If so whoever wants one can just mail you the money. It then sends you an e-mail and once you accept the transfer the money is taken from the bank account and put in your PayPal account.
Money transfer is VERY expensive. I've used it twice when I had to but really it's to be avoided. A trade is also an option of course.
Out of interest how much could you send one to Europe for including postage? A rough price will do for now.
Guys it's a gorgeous set, well worth the price hike. I can't believe 10 people have looked but no one has said Yes so far. The R1 Sony and UK R2 Tartan don't even come close.
p.s - Eva does yours have English subs for the Deleted Scenes? They didn't include them on the Australian release. I hope they fixed that minor guff.

I don't have a Paypal account and I have never used eBay. My friend says that Paypal is very easy and safe to use though.bradavon wrote:Do you have a PayPal account? I presume you do as you use eBay, right?
Sounds good to me. How do I get money out of a Paypal account and into a bank account? Are there any fees?If so whoever wants one can just mail you the money. It then sends you an e-mail and once you accept the transfer the money is taken from the bank account and put in your PayPal account.
The average keepcase is 170g (undoubtedly that the tin will weigh a bit more), so that's about $8.86NZD via Air mail to the UK and the majority of Europe. There's a rate calculator here.Out of interest how much could you send one to Europe for including postage? A rough price will do for now.
I just checked the disc for you. Nah, just removable French subs on the deleted scenes.p.s - Eva does yours have English subs for the Deleted Scenes? They didn't include them on the Australian release. I hope they fixed that minor guff.

They're right and it is. You're losing out on some excellent bargains, including DVD ones (you need to use some common sense and witt buying DVDs though).EvaUnit02 wrote:My friend says that Paypal is very easy and safe to use though.
I've checked out eBay.com.au and it's nowhere near as big as the UK or USA versions. I can't talk for NZ but it doesn't look like it's really taken off in Aussie.
You upload your bank details and then transfer it. For the UK under £50 it costs 25p and over it's free. I'd recommend charging the buyer 25p (or whatever it is for you) more so you can safely transfer it out.EvaUnit02 wrote:Sounds good to me. Most people leave the money in there for eBay use.
Weird I'm sure they're burnt in one my copy. It's weird when the rest has English subs. Actually there is an English subtitle stream but no actual subs :shock:EvaUnit02 wrote:I just checked the disc for you. Nah, just removable French subs on the deleted scenes.

Fuck that, I'd need the money to pay off my credit card (which would be used for buying the copy of 2046 from Borders + postage).brad wrote:Most people leave the money in there for eBay use.
I'll double-check the my DVD and get back to you tomorrow. I started a thread on it over at the Madboards, but no one seems to care.Weird I'm sure they're burnt in one my copy.
Anyone interested in a copy of 2046 at all?

Hi, I might be interested in this depending on the price. However, I already own the R3 Korean limited edition and I was wondering how the R4 edition compares to the R3. Is it that much better?
Also, bradavon, I read in one of your posts about this film that the Dutch R2 tin is even better than the R4. is this correct, does the Dutch R2 have an even better A/V quality than the R4? If that's the case than maybe I should try to get that one as I'm Dutch myself...

Hi Bradavon, Thanks for saying that, Yes my first trade was with Bradavon, and I still remember the title we traded, it was for A Man called Hero for Almost Famous. Wasn't certain if I was going to like that movie, but thought might as well see it, and really love the movie now
@Eva, thanks have PM you now, and yes do have an Paypal account.

He he true. You traded Terminator UK R2 SE with me too, which funnily enough I now have for trade (if anyone wants it?)
Almost Famous is an excellent film, Crowe's best.
There is a thread in the Reviews section covering 2046 and of course DVD Beaver.
I don't think it has Dutch subs sorry but they often port French DVDs to Belgium (and in turn Holland) so trying looking there.

The Korean LE is only an LE because of the CD. The DVD discs are a duplicate of the shitty HK DVD. So yes it's VASTLY superior in every way. The PQ alone is worth the upgrade, it's been sourced from the French print. However, I already own the R3 Korean limited edition and I was wondering how the R4 edition compares to the R3. I did say that BUT said (or should've said) French tin NOT Dutch tin. It has oodles of exclusive extras. The French Tin is THE definitive version of 2046.Also, bradavon, I read in one of your posts about this film that the Dutch R2 tin is even better than the R4. is this correct, does the Dutch R2 have an even better A/V quality than the R4? BTW Brad, the French subs on the deleted scenes are indeed burnt-in.
$39.95NZD before whatever the shipping will be.Daze wrote:Hi, I might be interested in this depending on the price.
Almost Famous is great, I haven't seen it since I saw it at the theatres years ago though. Did you ever see the Director's Cut, was it a better version of the film?bradavon wrote:Almost Famous is an excellent film, Crowe's best.

Yep. I watched the TC DVD and then bought the Bootleg R1 (no literally it's called the Bootleg edition
). The general consensus is the Director's Cut is better.
It adds about 50 minutes of footage (I think) and with the exception of 1 good scene IMO it's all padding and crucially REALLY effects the entire pace of the film (somehow a film about Rock & Roll needs a good pace). It works perfectly in it's shorter Theatrical Cut form and really doesn't need to be any longer.
The Theatrical Cut is awesome, the Director's Cut out stays its welcome. So no it's not a better version.
Man the music Crowe choice was/is excellent. The Elton John song (I can't remember what song it was) when they're on the bus after that party, oh man that is such a classic scene. The one when they suddenly all break out into song.

Thanks. The R2UK Bootleg Edition looks good. Both cuts of the film w/ DTS.bradavon wrote: The Theatrical Cut is awesome, the Director's Cut out stays its welcome. So no it's not a better version.
I very much liked Jerry Maguire too - "Show me the money!"
Are "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" (the film where Crowe "went undercover" as a high school student in order to write the screenplay) and Vanilla Sky any good?

I hear the UK R2 is decent.
I had already bought the R1 which is the same but gains digi-pack plus an exclusive CD containing the fictional songs from the fictional rock band. It's fun to listen to.
The UK R2 is amaray. Columbia Tristar rearranged the extras so they're more spread out meaning both cuts can get DTS. On the R1 most of the extras are on Disc 1 (the Director's Cut) so DTS didn't fit. If I were to buy it now I'd go for the UK R2.
I don't mind losing DTS as the Theatrical Cut retains DTS so I'm happy.
I've not seen FARH it doesn't look all that good but some like it. Have you seen Abre Los Ojos? (Open Your Eyes). I'd recommend picking that up first (R1, UK R2 or R4 are all virtually the same. With the R4 gaining an extra music video. All are decent enough anamorphic, Spanish DD2.0).
It's darker than Crowe's remake and for that probably has the edge but the remake is also very good. One shot has been composed to look just like the cover of a Bob Dylan album, that is clever. Both are well made films.
I've actually written a comparison review of Abre Los Ojos vs. Vanilla Sky. I gave Abre Los Ojos 9 out of 10 and Vanilla Sky 8 out of 10, in hindsight I'd probably drop a mark and make it 8 out of 10 and 7 out of 10.
If you're NOT seen either film don't read it just yet as it containers spoilers, they were unavoidable as I wanted to properly compare both films. If you're seen either it won't be a problem though:

I've just noticed the pictures go a bit skew-wiff in Firefox I'll have to fix that in my next update.

I haven't seen it, but I like cheesy 80's popcorn movies. I plan to pick up a few Brat Pack movies one of these days.bradavon wrote:I've not seen FARH it doesn't look all that good but some like it.

Rewind says that only the R1 & 4 are anamorphic (out of the R1, R2, R4 - Non-English speaking country releases are moot.)Abre Los Ojos

Me too BUT oddly the ones I missed when it was the 80's I've no plans to see now BUT the ones I didn't I still enjoy when they're on TV.EvaUnit02 wrote:I haven't seen it, but I like cheesy 80's popcorn movies. I plan to pick up a few Brat Pack movies one of these days.
Rubbish the UK R2 is anamorphic:Rewind says that only the R1 & 4 are anamorphic (out of the R1, R2, R4 - Non-English speaking country releases are moot.)

I'd see if you can get the Korean DVD cheaper first it has a director's interview. It's only 1.50 minutes long but better than nothing, that said the Text extras are pretty good on the R1 and you'd possibly get more out of those. The UK R2 according to that review has no extras and loses the production notes.
FYI I own the R1 and the Dolby Surround is very effective for Dolby Surround. I wouldn't miss out on the anamorphic to gain DD5.1 (i.e - Spanish DVD).
It was Bruce Leeroy who introduced me to this film. He picked up the Spanish DVD way before the American remake came. I saw the American remake and when I got home from the cinema I picked up the R1, that night. He said the Spanish R2 AV is decent (he said the 5.1 was good) but none of the extras (including director's commentary) has English subs.
When you do check out my comparison. I think you get the most from it after you've seen both, so maybe wait a while longer.EvaUnit02 wrote:No, haven't seen it.

The rear cover art doesn't mention whether it's anamorphic or not but I guess it is. Anyway Open Your Eyes UK R2 is only £3.99 at CD WOW
