French food

Post by grim_tales »

Does anyone here like French food? :)

The French market in St. Albans was still there today so I got a "real" croissant (miles away from the stuff you get in the supermarket), and a French baguette :D Very nice indeed, the smell of fresh baked French bread is beautiful :D
A coupla days ago I also got a saucisson sec (or whatever its called).

:)

Mmmhh... Croissant. :D
I had some at breakfast this morning. Every day should begin with a croissant.
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

:D Is the croissant normally bought every day or just for a treat or something? My French teacher said its a myth the croissant is eaten every day (bread sure is though).

J'adore manger le croissant :D

:D (Surely there's no mistakes there!)

Oh yes there is.

You can't say "le croissant". That's like saying "I enjoy eating the croissant".
"le" works for matter. Bread is regarded as matter. You can say "J'adore manger le pain".
Croissant however is regarded as an object (it's not "bread", it's "A croissant").

You can say "J'adore manger les croissants" (plural, as in "I love eating croissants").

But you were very close.

Depends on your habits. My mum buys croissants, bread and pains au chocolat (kinda like croissant, but with a chocolate bar inside) for breakfast every morning.

GAH.....

:D

You can say "du pain" (right?) as in the ad - du pain, du vin, du boursin"
I know pain au chocolat - very nice :D I've also had pain aux raisans.

Yep.

Not being a native french speaker, maybe you haven't noticed it:
There's a pun in that ad.

"Du pain, du vin, du Boursin" -> "Bread, wine, Boursin".
Boursin is pronounced like Beau Sein ("nice breast").
So this is what we really hear:
"Bread, wine, nice breast". :D

WOW!! I need to find me a french woman who does groceries like that! Your mom wouldnt fancy a 29 year old blonde Dutch boy to hang around with, would she!? ;) :D

I LOVEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Pains au Chocolat Gawdddd... they're so fucking delicious.
If I ever get to be dictator of the world (and I have no reason to believe I wont), my first job would be to make sure that everyone everywhere in the world, would have fresh, nice, warm pains au chocolat! Every day. 3 times a day. For the rest of their lifes. And beyond.

Gawd... I dont know which I love more... pains au chocolat, or freedom fries :D

Freedom Fries? :?
It's a Joke. :D

Dont you remember the americans were so mad at the french 'cowards' that they refused to follow the USA blindly into the war, that they renamed 'french fries' into 'freedom fries' !?

I thought everyone would get it. :D

Is that story about the boy freezing true or just a legend?

My last name is De Bruin. I don't like the proper "De Brain" pronunciation (it sounds really goofy) and just use "De Brew-in".

They don't like it, apparently...
