World Cup 2006 in Germany

Post by dragonhero005 »

Hi guys!

What do you think?
Who is going to win this year´s World Football Championship?

One thing´s for sure: It´s going to be a thrilling tournament, as nearly everyone could win.

As always I´d say Argentina or Brasil will make it. The Chech Republik is also on my list of candidates for the title.

Would be great if Korea and Japan could surprise us again, just as in 2002...

I'd stick a patriotic pound on England.

And then a realistic tenner on Brazil

Do you really think so?

I don´t know but Spain´s team isn´t as good as it had been some years ago. Oldies like Hierro don´t play anymore and they don´t have a real Nr. 10 (as for example Portugal has with Luis Figo or Deco or Rui Costa, damn they even got 3!). So I don´t think that Spain will make it, but I´d be happy if they surprised me...

I have no idea.
Holland has some very good players but a mediocre defence. Van Persie is top-class, and Van der Vaart should be in good shape. Also Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is looking very VERY promising (young striker). It's too bad Kalou isnt allowed to become a dutchman (yet), and Aisatti is still a bit too young so he probably wont get called (he's 17 years old, and one of the best new midfielders in the world)

England has great players but a lousy coach.

Brasil usually does well, although Dida hasnt been in very good shape and their back 4 also isnt too hot. They should call up PSV's Alex, as he's tremendous as a central defender. Awesome player. Also, PSV's Gomes is an amazing keeper.

Argentina has Messi and a couple of other great players, but Messi is a bit injury-prone it seems, and they're in a tough group... but I'd say they're one of the favourites.

Germany has a very young team. Klinsmann has taken some heat from german press over his choices, but he's building a team for the future and they're playing (or trying to) attacking, creative football. So maybe it all falls in place at the World Cup, where they are in pretty much the easiest group...

I dont rate Italy. I hope they go out soon. Bunch of wankers. Diving and crying all over the place.

France... hard to say. Some good young talent, but not sure if they're called up for the world cup? And what will henry's form be? plus Henry is often played on the outside instead of in the middle...

Spain: A couple of very good players. Is that young striker who was last years top-scorer at the WC for youth -20, called up? Fabregas is awesome, but I dont know the rest of the team...

As in every tournament, it can go any way. Some favourites will fly out due to bad refereeing and/or individual mistakes... or just bad luck and shit like that.

Soccer is a pretty unfair sport, so it's very very hard to predict.

Holland should make it to the last 4, if they can survive the pool of dead...

Yeah, we probably have the most difficult group of the tournament. I'm not so sure that we'll go through...

What's your opinion about Robben btw? He was one of my favourite players, and still is if he focusses just on his football.... but my god, what a prick he has become :N
Diving all over the place, and crying and whining :N
Not really the way we (the Dutch) like our football, issit!?)
Kalou is more Dutch then Robben, thats for sure.

Robben annoys the fuck out of me. Sorry for the cursing, but bloody hell, he's a diving twat.
If you've ever seen Sky Sports on a Saturday morning, they have a programme called Soccer A.M. showing, and in it, they have little comedy segments where diving players are shown in slow-motion, with the music from Platoon: (Adagio for Strings, I believe it's called) in the background. Very funny it is, in fact... hang on... Episode 1, Episode 2 and Episode 3 are three I've found on good ol' YouTube.
There are also some called 3rd Eye, where fans have spotted things in the background of matches they have watched.
Oh yeah, and Drogba's a twat as well. Where does he get off saying he's the best African player? Eto'o runs rings round him, and FIFA agrees.

Is this not the most beautiful and inspirational tribute to the game you've ever seen?

Too many cheats spoil the big tournaments for me.

England are one of the more honest teams.

They definitely used to be. There's been a little more diving creeping into their game of late, but the thinking is more along the lines of 'Can't beat 'em, join 'em'. Which is a shame, and in no way can be condoned, but if Rivaldo can go down as though he's been shot in the face when the ball barely hit his leg and get someone carded for their trouble, then something needs to be done to redress the balance.

Yeah, I did notice Gerrard is one of less honest players.

He did a dive during one of the recent friendlies and got a penalty.

Not very English behaviour is it? 8)

Awesome opening match overall IMO. Superb finishing goal from the Germans. I grinned when Costa Rica scored though - would like to have seen them score once more.

Entertaining stuff.
