Great 2nd half game (Tunisia vs Saudi Arabia). A last minute goal from both sides. Fantesticles.

I know!!! I was going to be supporting Ecuador tomorrow but I might swap over to Costa Rica... just to make things interesting. Realisitically, I doubt Costa will win... perhaps a draw, but even then it's all over for the Poles.

Really feel sorry for Poland. Exciting last few minutes. Love the two German shots, which hit the polebar. Polish keeper must've shat a brick. I felt that the Poles should've concentrated way more on defending, considering the circumstances.

Yeah... but one single point wouldn´t have been enough for them...

They would've had a slim chance in qualifying for the next round... but now their chances are a hell of a lot slimmer. :(

Well I'm up for taking the piss tomorrow (we have a new Polish guy at work). :D

We have a Polish guy fella at work as well and he gets the urine extracted from him as well. His defence is that he couldn't care less about football, but that doesn't deter us :)

Actually, THEY DID, and that's exactly where it went wrong:
Just like in the Arsenal-barca CL finale, Poland lost a guy, so they went down to 10 men.
The Polish coach then opted to TAKE OFF a striker, and field an extra defender.
Now what does this mean? I'll tell you?
It SEEMS like that's a wise decision, right? More defenders means a better defense? Right? Wrong!
All that does is making sure that Poland hardly has anyone upfront anymore, making it possible for the German backs to ALSO join the german attack, since there's no more threat to take care of. So basically pretty much all germans can now go forward and close in on the Polish defence and pound away, taking lots of shots etc. Poland cant get the ball away cause there's no one left to kick it to upfront. So when the polish defence gets the ball, all they can do is kick it upfield, where there is no-one left, and the Germans have the ball back in possesion and get forward again.

HAVING the ball means you can pass it around. NOT having the ball, means you'll have to run to GET the ball. But when you DO get the ball (poland, you're just going to kick it upfield and the Germans have it again. So the Polish players will all get tired, while the Germans can easily set the pace.

Which is the reason why in the end, Germany finally got the goal.

The Polish coach should have just brought on another striker, thus keeping the pitch long, and thus making sure that a; the german backs won't be able to go up front so easily, and b: providing a point-man for the other polish players to pass the ball to, hold it up a bit, perhaps create even a chance, just keeping it in possesion a bit longer, etc.

Ah well... you see these simple tactical errors very very often.
You saw Lyon doing it in the CL, you saw Arsenal doing it against Barca, and now here we see it again.

Beenhakker, coach of T&T also lost a player I believe, and brought on an EXTRA forward. It's because he is a Dutch coach, and all us Dutch people are taught by Cruyff ;)

hey,

and prepare for the next team that will suck, even if they win; Sweden.

At least Kim Källström is suiting up from the start, obviously can't hurt.

Yeah, England sucked big time. The sad thing is that the individual players are most of them) all world class. It's the dumb-ass coach with dire tactics, as well as the lack of smart guy on the pitch who can read and change games (tactically), that makes it a lousy team...

Jesus Yi-long, nice analysis. You make an interesting point... or points...

Words cannot express how gutted I am. I really hoped that T&T would pummle England. They were close before England started getting desperate.

If Ecuador draw with Germany in the next game, it means that England may end up playing Germany.... ace!

He's had a couple of good touches, but he should've put that first half chance away...

England were supposed to be pretty poo, but as I'd only managed to get to see the last 10 minutes of the second half, I can't really say. What I saw a lot of was Lampard not finishing.

Sweden won, but one of the worst players on the pitch scored it. I've never been a huge fan of Freddie, and tonight he showed why: he often runs around like a foolish headless chicken. He isnt a 'smart' player, but someone who just always goesgoesgoes forward.
I enjoyed seeing Elmander again, though. Great player, and made a nice contribution tonight. Cant understand why he isnt in the starting 11. Especially since that ugly fucker on the right wing with the blonde hair with rat's tail, is gawdawfull.

Poor Paraguay - kinda wanted them to beat Sweden (sorry Knetan), just to make things interesting.

Now both Sweden and T&T have to try really hard for the final match.

hey,

largely, I just find our whole team this time around terribly uninteresting. Our only energy happens at the substitutions...

But hey, at least we won but I predict merely 2 games more max before it's time to go home.

Crouch is the biggest asshole of the whole World Cup so far. If you look at the goal he shot in slow motion, you'll see that he pulled the other guy from his rastas.

Yes, they will tomorrow. Well, that's what they said on German TV. But I'm sure it'll be tomorrow. They don't wanna ruin the party right now.

I saw that LD on the slow mo replay.
The amount of chances Lampard, Crouch etc missed were laughable.
I know we were playing a team who were playing in what was like a final for them, but we were quite poor IMO! :?
Terry/Gerrard/Lennon - Very good
Owen/Lampard/Crouch - Awful.

We should of scored more goals than we did. England really need to get the ball ON THE GROUND and play teams. All we did was long ball after long ball... AAARGHH!

I know. Plus England was calmly playing the ball around at the back in times, instead of upping the temp. Cause now T&T had all the time in the world to get bak in position. The England forwards didnt press forward when T&T had the ball, and as you said way too many long balls when you should have just outplayed them through quick combinations to get the right people in position...

England miss a smart leader on the pitch. Obviously Sven isnt gonna change anything as a; he's thick, and b; he's on the bench. England need someone on the pitch who can read the game, understand the problems, direct the play and his teammates, and alter tactics when neccessary...

Sven has gotten this far with this team. because each time individual class wins them the game, so a great pass from Beckham, or a big ass long distance shot from Gerard... but you cant really speak of a tactic when you see those wins. There's hardly ever a good combination going on, or people repeatedly taking the right positions and going on the right combinations to rip a defence apart...
You dont see any structure in England's play, except for just throwing the ball in there and hope for the best. And that's a shame cause on paper, England has a great team with great individual players...

Look, the one thing England and Sweden have in common is that they haven't a snowball's chance in hell of winning the damn cup. I think England may beat Sweden (whom I haven't enjoyed watching) in game #3 and that means it depends on what Trinidad do (and goal difference if they win). If England beat Sweden 2-0 and Trinidad beat Paraguay 2-0 (could happen!) Trinidad would go through in second place. Fingers crossed, eh? :D
