@ Mark that's the entire point. It's not supposed to be taken seriously. Al Pacino has said so himself. Personally I think this film is excellent (much better than The Killer, Brad dons flame proof jacket).
I'm reserving judgement on whether it's worth upgrading until I see what extras it has and/or whether it really does sound/look better.
"This edition will use a brand new, remixed audio track created for the 20th anniversary theatrical re-release in 2003. Having seen this version, I can confirm that the gunshot effects were all redone and sound incredible. The previous two-disc set's Dolby Digital and DTS tracks were mastered from the original 1983 tracks."
I wonder if this is really true? The 2003 DVD was created to coincide with the 2003 Theatrical Re-release. Why on earth go to the expense of creating two new 5.1 remixes?
For me if it is indeed much better than I may upgrade. The 2003 5.1 remix isn't "much" better than the Surround on the Original DVD. I doubt it will sound that much better though considering the source material.

I love it, too. Probably a 5/5. However, I wouldn't say better or worse than "The Killer". Not considering that "The Killer" is my favourite movie of all-time, I just think that you can't compare the two films in any way?bradavon wrote:Personally I think this film is excellent (much better than The Killer, Brad dons flame proof jacket).

I like it, but only ever seen it once on TV years ago
I havent got around to watching my funky big region 1 box set yet and I look at it every day as its on display. So I guess I need to sit down and see the film again and hope its as good as I remember and I dont think I will be upgrading any time soon as I like my BIG box set thingie.

Scarface is an excellent film. I agree with Brad:- Brian De Palma > John Woo.
I watched The Untouchables last night, very good film too IMO. The sequence with the assassin creeping around Malone's house and the shoot out at the train station oozed Brian De Palma's signature style - all his camera & editing tricks in full force.

It works for me. DVD Times has this to add:
"3rd of October 2006
Digitally remastered, this two-disc edition comes complete with an all-new audio track for a more immersive and dynamic experience. The Platinum Edition includes new bonus material and highly collectible packaging.
The film will be presented in 2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen with English DD5.1 & DTS 5.1 Surround, French and Spanish DD2.0 Mono and optional English SDH, French and Spanish subtitles. Extras are TBC."

source wrote:his is the documentary, divided into three segments for no good reason and virtually identical to the one on the original release. The main change is that its cut up into three parts - The Rebirth of Scarface, lasting 10 minutes; Acting Scarface, lasting 15 minutes and the 30 minute Creating Scarface. From what I could see there is no new material here and some comments have been removed. You can watch all three parts in one go by selecting Play All but, frankly, I preferred this in its original incarnation.
