Anna and the King good WTF??? They completely changed the story, since when did Anna and the King fall in love?

That would never ever have happened. There is no way an Asian King would fall in love with a Westerner, it would never be allowed in Thailand now and certainly not at that time. It didn't even happen in the original stage play so why add it in now?

Since when does CYF look remotely Thai or even South East Asian (I can let this one go just like I did in Memoirs of a Geisha) but everyone speaking English really got on my nerves. The film was banned in Thailand.

It was soo Hollywood gloss just like Chocolat and almost all the films Ron Howard makes. Everyone has perfectly white teeth, no one is filthy you get the idea.

It looked nice though.

Agreed if it's needed and the story is weighty enough to cope. The problem is often when it comes to Hollywood they simply don't have enough story to fill the space up so resort to what I'll call it "uber-padding".

They rare use the extra time for character development too.

I see your point but don't you think if say half the film was rubbish your opinion of the film would be completely different and you'd no longer like it (say it was twice as long as half was boring).

God can't CYF find decent American roles? He has so much talent that no one in America seems to notice or care about.

Anna and the King, I dont care at all they changed the story one bit or totally! its not the same film as other etc.. judging it because it isnt what you want isnt exactly heavy critisism.

He does look pretty good as a Thai anyway. Thialand is a land of morons, a bit like China, banning films is just sad (unless they deserve it, which 99% dont).

True. We all have pet peeves and this is one of mine. I find it really hard to overlook "unless" the film is so good I can forgive it (but it always sticks out).

Weren't you pissed when Chinese played Japanese in Memoirs of a Geisha? I see no difference or was that LD who was pissed? Even more so then as he liked AATK.

He's Asian but that's about the only connection. At least Vietnam (of South East Asia) has Chinese roots. Thailand is the "only" country in South East Asia to never be colonised or controlled by a foreign power (many have tried in history) so they really do look like Thais and not a mixture.

I know what you were saying but I shall correct you anyway: Thailand is certainly not a land of morons!

im skeptical about this movie, the first PotC was goodish, but it wasnt amazing, im wondering how good a sequel can be to an average movie. although johnny depp was hugely funny as a camp pirate. this is the main thing i look forward to in this movie, another funny performance by depp.

LOL, this is what I have been preaching here ever since it was announced that he had signed the contract to appear in this film, which was like 2 years ago. He'll play the lead villain, Pirate Sao Feng. The character is based on a real life HK pirate.

Love that scar on his face.

That's cuz it ain't an adaptation of the stage play or a remake of any prior film. It's based on Anna Leon-Owens' memoirs, which are well-known to have been exaggerated.

China censors find 'Pirates' cannibalism too much

Scenes of cannibalism in the latest "Pirates of the Caribbean" film were too much for China's censors, who are keeping the box office hit out of mainland cinemas, state media reports have said.

The censors made the final verdict on the film, the second installment with Johnny Depp as a swashbuckling Captain Jack Sparrow, after watching footage of people eating human flesh, the Shanghai Daily reported.

"The movie didn't get the approval from the state authority," an official from Shanghai United Cinema Lines, a chain of movie theaters, told the paper.

China does not have a movie-rating system, but often the government will suggest producers cut violence or sex scenes before it allows the movie to be screened.

Producers of "Mission Impossible 3," which is expected to be released in mid-July, changed some dialogue and cut scenes to pave the film's way to Chinese cinemas, the paper said.

It said scenes showing laundry hanging from washing lines and old people playing mah-jongg ended up on the cutting room floor, without explaining why this was considered unfit for Chinese audiences.

The paper originally reported that "Mission Impossible 3" would not be screened in China at all because of the scenes.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" has made box office history, with the film earning a record-breaking 132 million dollars in its opening weekend in North America, according to preliminary figures released Sunday.

The first installment of the series, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" chalked up 27 million yuan (3.4 million dollars) in China after its release in 2003, according to the paper.
