Hmm, that's far from conclusive. What is "some comments have been removed" supposed to mean. A second, a minute, 30 minutes, who knows?
It must be seconds as I'm sure it was about 55 minutes originally.
"You can watch all three parts in one go by selecting Play All but, frankly, I preferred this in its original incarnation." - You could do that on the original DVD. Agreed it was better in it's original form though.
Actually come to think of that section you highlight is incorrect. It's split into 4 sections as the footage about the TV Cut was part of the documentary too originally.

THREE releases and we still don't really have any new or rather decent extras over the first disc. STILL the best extra is the Documentary Making of. (split up since the SE).
From what I can see the NEW extras seem to be, right? -
Are we to presume for some reason ONLY the DD5.1 is getting the new remix?# English DD5.1 Surround (Producer’s Mix)
# English DTS 5.1

The rest look like the same as what was on the previous release. Thank god they've exorcised those crud Rap & Hip Hop extras. Those really were trash, odd they've removed them though.# Scarface Scoreboard: Watch Scarface like never before...keep track of the number of times the "F" word is used and the number of bullets fired

Yep as I thought those ARE the news extras, SE extras:
All in all the extras "could" be better but ultimately it comes down to whether the 5.1 remix is really worth the upgrade. I'd be surprised if the picture quality has been remastered???* Deleted scenes (22:39 min)
* "Scarface: The Rebirth" featurette (10:11 min)
* "Scarface: Creating" featurette (29:37 min)
* "Scarface: Acting" featurette (15:08 min)
* "Scarface: The TV Version" featurette (2:49 min)
* "Def Jam Presents: Origins of a Hip Hop Classic" featurette (20:34 min) - REMOVED

Bah! They've replaced the classy menus from the SE.
Brad, do you have the 2003 R1 SE or the R2 SE? Cuz if you have the R1 SE (for the burnt-in original theatrical prologue text) and it turns out there's no original sound mix on the new PE, then I'll be willing to take it off your hands.
I hope so. The option of the original sound mix AND the one with the replaced SFX would be great.bradavon wrote:Are we to presume for some reason ONLY the DD5.1 is getting the new remix?# English DD5.1 Surround (Producer’s Mix)

Agreed but there would be two much better scenarios:The option of the original sound mix AND the one with the replaced SFX would be great.
1. Original Surround, Remixed DTS and DD5.1
2. Remixed DTS and Current SE DD5.1
There are no sound effects afaik Eva.
There is no Original mix. I presume you mean the first 5.1 mix?Brad, do you have the 2003 R1 SE or the R2 SE? Cuz if you have the R1 SE (for the burnt-in original theatrical prologue text) and it turns out there's no original sound mix on the new PE, then I'll be willing to take it off your hands.
I have the UK R2. I should've gone for the R1 mind you as the subtitled prologue text is messy. Thankfully there aren't many throughout the film. I'll be getting the R1 this time.

Did you miss something?bradavon wrote:There are no sound effects afaik Eva.
But we really won't know for sure what exactly is that they've done until the reviews appear/after the release is out.For this all-new, two-disc platinum edition every sound effect in the film has been replaced and digitally remastered for the “ultimate Scarface experience”. Yes. Given that it's virtually just a discrete version of the original Stereo Surround track. There is no Original mix. I presume you mean the first 5.1 mix?
Hehe, Brad have you noticed how often entire threads just turn into a discussion just between the two of us?

I did miss/forget that line thanks. "Personally" I'd still prefer both to be remixed as if the remix is awful I'll simply own my current DVD, the 5.1 remix is THE reason I'm getting it.
I'll wait to read reviews first. Hopefully they're not vague this time or we'll get a comparison review. The reviews at the time comparing the SE to Original were rubbish, none compared the DVDs.
I don't care how bad the Original R1 was that was already a given.
True and more the reason I want a proper 5.1 remix but not if it's a dodgy HKesque one.Given that it's virtually just a discrete version of the original Stereo Surround track.
Now I know that I'll hold on to my current DVD for sure.

I wouldn't say awful, let alone old HK remix awful. I do remember being really disappointed when I viewed the film for the first time back in 2004, I was expecting a really dynamic DTS 5.1 experience. This was before I was a "partial purist".bradavon wrote:"Personally" I'd still prefer both to be remixed as if the remix is awful I'll simply own my current DVD, the 5.1 remix is THE reason I'm getting it.
It's worth noting that 5.1 remix on Carlito's Way is also a glorified stereo surround experience. When I saw it for the first time a couple months back (outstanding film BTW, only weak point being Penelope Ann Miller, she was totally lacking of sex appeal for someone whose supposed to be stripper.) I forgave the sound mix thinking "Meh, this is what it originally sounded like in 1993 anyway."

Neither would I. You missed what I was saying. I meant the new 5.1 remix we've not heard yet not the existing one. Which as you say it's virtually the same as the Surround, a bit more bass mainly.
Me too and I still am.I was expecting a really dynamic DTS 5.1 experience.
True but you know what the audio in that isn't half as immersive as Scarface so I'm more than happy with it.It's worth noting that 5.1 remix on Carlito's Way is also a glorified stereo surround experience.
