Spider-Man 2

Post by grim_tales »

I know this was cut (sort of) for the cinema by the distributor, or was cut prior to submission to the BBFC or something like that, to remove a headbutt. Is it likely the R2 will be uncut?

It was not cut at all in UK, as far as I know, Spiderman was, Spiderman 2 was not.

Huh???
I'm sure it was the other way around
As I understand it, Spiderman 1 was passed uncut (cinema/DVD) with a !2a/12 cert.
Spider-Man 2 was (I think) slightly cut by the distributor prior to submission to the BBFC because they desperately wanted a PG. It was passed in the cinema without further cuts. What I want to know is will the same cut cinema version make it onto DVD or will it be a uncut 12?

:)

I dont think they cut anything at all as there was no violence at all compared to the 1st film. Part 2 was tame in comparison to part 1, as they got lots of stick for a kid film with stuff like that for the 1st film, so toned it way down.

I believe Grim is right:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=12534

But prior to it being submitted to the BBFC. There is lots of other comments over at DVD Times about this.

as I said no version were cut, that why it is a watered down film compared to the 1dt, as parents were up in arms as the 1st was too nasty for kids, its a Kids film and may as well cut all nasty bits out and make it a fooking toon! morons!

I remember Raimi saying that, in some ways No 2 is even darker than No 1  I'll have to see for myself :)
You're right about 1 though, I think the BBFC said the 1st one was almost boarderline 15 so they created the 12a as a compromise didnt they?

Well the 12 A was created as soo many parents and kids cried like babies saying we want out little 3 year olds to see Spiderman, boo hoo its not fair boo hooo!!!! even if it isnt sutable for little 3 year old Johny he want to see it anyway and we are irresponsable parents let us see it now, or we will buy a pirate Bohhhhhoooooo

and the Big film companies also said its not fair we are loosing millions boo hoo all our luveryly millions boo fooking hoo!

so the BBFC caved in the like dumb fucks they are and created the 12A the worst rating ever made, and its ruined films forever! fucking tossers!

One Big reason to hate Spideman, it ruined the UK ratings and made more cuts happen becasue of it! wankers!

and dick who takes a child to see a 12A need a public beating you stupid fucks! :duh:

I remember many local councils releasing this as a PG and the BBFC complaining saying it should be a 12, which is what they classified it as. I'm sure it wasn't borderline 15.

Personally I'd say T3 was fine at 12a but LOTR: TFOTR at PG was to low.

DVD Times seems to suggest the pre cuts applied to all worldwide versions, similar to what happened with some Bond movies like Goldeneye I suppose, as they say "during post production" so it would have applied to the US master of Spider-Man 2 as well right?
BTW Brad did you get my PM/UTU with the code? ;)

I did thanks but I don't get an e-mail to tell me I've got one so I didn't know to check.

It's probably best just to e-mail me.

Thing is I have seen too many toddlers in cinemas for films like Spiderman and lord of the Rings fims, surley it scares them shitless! crying babies are also not nice, but legal with the 12a rating! it basically one Big Joke!

Hmmm.. I'm confused. A user called "minister_x" on Rewind says the headbutt cut WOULDN'T necessarily apply worldwide, its not like with Bond films getting cut all over the world because they *are* British based.

Here

I dont think anyone has actually found that headbutt in Spidey 2 though? The headbutt in Shrek 2 WAS there, just substituted on UK prints wasnt it???

According to Chris (@DVD Debate) the US R1 is totally uncut, ie the headbutts are there. For some reason, this seems to be the only uncut DVD as I've heard people saying the Canadian DVD (?) is missing the headbutts as well.

According to the comments on DVD Times in the R2 review it is. Which I find hard to believe, why would they cut it? The BBFC have no control over R3.

It's not clear though if the cuts were deliberate.

Not that it bothers me the R3 is so cheap I don't care.

They all have the headbutt replaced with a punch, except the R1. The R1 is the only uncut version of Spider-Man 2 with headbutt intact.
