BTW Brad, if a link ain't working any more then it's likely that the sale is over.
I just noticed that there's an $6.98 each MGM sale going on but that ends tomorrow on the 21st, so be in quick.

Anyway I grabbed:-
Carrie SE (has the original mono) - De Palma
Dressed to Kill SE (best DVD globally) - De Palma
Blow Out - De Palma
Leaving Las Vegas (best DVD of this around, OAR anamorphic + DD5.1) - Christ, I pray that this ain't unwatchable Dogme 95-influenced pretentious rubbish like Mike Figgis' other films.
Salam Bombay - Mira Nair (best DVD globally)
Mad Max SE (best DVD globally, ignore the R4 w/ the DTS track. This trumps it by far)
Titles you might like to consider:-
Hotel Rwanda; early Kubrick films:- Killer's Kiss, The Killing and Paths of Glory (latter two are supposed to be superb); Cronenberg's Scanners and his first masterpiece The Brood; Bad Influence - from Curtis Hanson, highly-rated early 90's "<insert> from hell" thriller (shit there were a lot of those back then:- Hand that Rocks the Cradle, Single White Female, Sleeping with the Enemy) with reportedly excellent performances from Rob Lowe and James Spader (great character actor Spader is - go watch Boston Legal and Season 9 of The Practice).
DDD - big MGM sale - $6.98 each - ENDS TOMORROW

* Leaving Las Vegas - Is fantastic. You'll really like it. Yes the R1 is best, pity by today's standards it's lame. The unrated/extra footage part just means it's uncut as I think it was cut in USA cinemas but everywhere else got it uncut anyway.
It's still Cage and Shue's best performance.
* Mad Max SE - What's wrong with the R4? Sure the extras are limited but I heard from many sources the full-rate DTS is well worth going for?
Thanks btw. I'll see if I can have a look. It took ages to go through the last list. The list view isn't much use as it's just a big list leaving the slow picture view.
I don't have much time mind with holiday on Tuesday morning.

The R4 is totally barebones, only production notes + cast & crew bios and trailers are a joke, even back in 1998 - the expectations for Special Editions were set back in the laserdisc era.bradavon wrote: * Mad Max SE - What's wrong with the R4? DTS created for a film originally in mono? The reviews for the R4 5.1 remixes all mention how dynamic it is, me thinks it might've been subject to foley replacement like T1 and Jaws. The R1 SE has the original Australian mono, which is lacking on the R4 and actually has significant extras (a commentary and Bouzereau-style documentaries); thus R4 is no contest to the R1 IMO.
I do admit to having double-standards, I loathe remixes of originally mono films, but am open to 5.1 remixes of stereo films if done well.

I hope so. Hotel and The Loss of Sexual Innocence are near unwatchable pretentious bile; made using vague guidelines of Dogme 95, which spells automatic shit in my books.bradavon wrote:* Leaving Las Vegas - Is fantastic. You'll really like it.
I'm hoping that LLV is a winner, considering since it was made before Figgis adopted Shitme 95 and has garnered a lot universal praise (unlike the films that he's made since that have received universal panning).
