man, keshi is outta here. he's been biting for the last week, and we tried to calm him. but the last chance came today when he bit my 6yr old nephew. that was his last warning. then he bit my 18 month old niece. if they were annoying him you could sorta understand. but they were playing in the garden and he just bit them. so im afriad that was the last chance, we cant have him biting the kids. with us we were sort ok, but we just cant train him, we dont have the time really...its a bummer, but the kids safety comes first...

yeah it was just a nip, no blood, but we arent willing to risk him biting them again and really hurting them badly. there is an old lady wih lots of time and patience and stuff who wants a dog so we are giving him to her. hes a sweet dog, but the biting is too much, like i said if it was just us, then it'd be ok, we could sort him out. but with him biting the kids we just wont take the chance at all.

Yeah, me too.
I've had a dog for 17 years, you should see the bite marks on me.
Whenever he was hungry he'd grab my arm and try to rip it off.

I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

lol! well unfortunatly i love my nieces and nephews more than i love the dog
like i said if it were just me and my parents it wouldnt have been a huge problem. but with kids about we just will not risk him biting the kids espeically not the baby. we dont want her to learn to be fearful of dogs. and she is terrified of Keshi right now. not other choice im afraid....tho the kitty will be extra happy to have the house as his domain now

i dont really want to get rid of him, but as i have already said, the kids safety comes first. hes a sweetdog, but we just will not risk him biting them badly, especially now he has his adult teeth it will hurt alot more...

I'm not sure. I believe dogs are pretty trainable either way, so with the reward-for-good behaviour way, and raising your voice and stuff. I doubt you need to hit a dog for it to learn stuff or behave.
Cats are stubborn sons of bitches, and my cat gets the occasional smack on the head when he's asking for it. Not to hard obviously.
Hitting a horse sounds like a bad idea.
I once punched a dog on the nose though. I was riding past a woman and a dog and it jumped up and bit my arm (sleeve), and I just backfisted it in a reflex.

I was there, the big BNB blackout of november, 2008. We lost many that day...

well we do use a rolled up newspaper on keshi, a tap on the nose if he does something bad, like bite or pee on the floor....however, there is a difference between a tap on the nose and a full blown belt. we never hit him hard enough to hurt him. i dont agree with people kicking, or punching or beating animals. but for disciplinary purposes, then a tap on the nose suffices...aswell he is really undisciplined, after being used to doign what he likes, raising your voice has no effect on him, so its accompanied by a tap on the nose.
i know on a school trip i went horse riding, and the horse wouldnt do what it should have, and i refused to kick it, i dislike that. so the trainer came and booted in the ribs. it hurt the horse (enough to make it rear up slightly)...i really disagreed with that, so i actually got off the horse at the end and kicked the trainer...she asked what i did that for, i said becuase you kicked that horse and harmed it, you dont like it so dont do it to the horse....(yeah i got in trouble, but i was satisfied
)
so i think its ok to tap them on the nose, and tell them in a stern voice that it was bad. but i dont agree with anything more than a tap. my sister kicks her dogs and it really makes me angry, they whimper and everything. i yell at her and the like...
its like with kids, you dont belt them for everything they do wrong. its a tactic when used in moderation as a last resort. warnings and such of "if you dont stop it you'll get a smack" i was smacked occasionally as a kid, at the time i had a tantrum, but now i understand that i was being naughty and deserved it. i do however disagree with hitting kids anywhere other than the hand, back of the legs or bottom. and not hard enought to leave a mark. beating a child is wrong. punching or kicking them is wrong. but a smack every now and then, when they really misbehave i dont have anything against.

I say never hit a pet harder than you would your own child. Bear in mind it's size and age too.
