Toddler killed by two dogs

Post by BiscLimpkit »

Terribly sad story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leic ... 376788.stm

The two dogs were later put down by the police. They were rottweilers (sp).

Poor parents.

I'm an animal lover myself but some breeds of dogs have a reputation for being complete bastards...

Actually... the parents appear to be the ones receiving a lot of the blame - accused of being irresponsible for letting their baby close to animals trained to be violent. I think the only genuine innocent victim here is the poor baby who lost her life.

Tragic.

The baby is the one I feel sorry for. A life lost that with common sense could have been saved.

These Dogs are naturally aggressive (hardly ideal pet material) and should've been kept away from any child, especially a baby. You have to blame the owners. Ultimately the Dogs are their responsibility. Now there's a dirty word in today's society.

Under the circumstances I think the Dogs had to be punished.

OK.

If I ever meet you in real life and you're acting like a [insert your nationality here], I'll shoot you in the head with a shotgun.
That's only fair. :|

If a mad dog gets shot for acting like a mad dog...

Don't let your baby get close to them, that's all there is to it.
I blame the parents.

Another one just happened, grabbed a 18 month old child by the face! and ripped him up, nasty.

Brutal killing dogs bred for death should not be alowed by law, only fools get them sad to say. Doesnt matter how well trained they are, its in their blood. My ignorant parents had one for a while, complete mistake! it was nuts, and we couldnt have treated it better. Most dogs have killer instincts and babies (and adults) are fair game to them if they are in the mood.

I agree with Bisc and Mark :( There was another case of a baby getting bitten in the face/neck etc by a Rotwieller, the baby is in hospital.
I know you love animals Tom, fair do's but what you say is like telling someone who died in a car crash "Drive safely now" :? OK they're vicious dogs but would they normally attack humans like that? Its' like telling Steve Irwin to stay out of the way of the stingray, dangerous creature to be sure, yet there have only been 3 stingray attacks on a human since 1945.

Well... I the problem is that although most of us LOVE dogs as pets, Rottweilers and pitbulls and the like really arent PETS. It's in their blood to be aggressive, and they will ... so people shouldnt be allowed to have them. I'm sure there are a bunch that are raised well and wouldnt hurt a fly in their whole life... but it's still a very very dangerous animal that shouldnt be around people.

I feel sorry for the parents, because even if they made a mistake in judgement to let their kid near those dogs, they didnt deserve that mistake to be punished in this way, as in their kid ripped to shreds. Just imagining it makes me sick to my stomach.

It's a good thing these dogs were put down. They're wild animals. And yeah, that's not their fault, but the fact is that they're dangerous and they've killed a toddler. You just cant let that slide.

Pedofilia is also a sickness and in some people's nature. That's not an excuse to let it slide, is it? You wouldnt leave you kid near them, have your kid molested, and then go: poor molestor... :N
No. Even when it IS in their nature, you cant let such a thing slide, or allow that to happen. And neither with these dogs. Yes it's in their nature, but you cant let them get away with it.

And yeah, that's sad for the dogs, as we all have a soft spot for animals and stuff... hell I know I do... but dogs like these... it just shouldnt have been allowed to happen. Maybe they should legally be forced to have all their teeth removed, or wear a thingy or whatever, but these dogs arent normal pets.

Parents were in the wrong as well, but I dont think being naive should be punished this severely, and then have all people going at you: 'ow yeah, you were just thick so it's your own damn fault your kid got shredded!'. They've been punished more then enough.

Maybe it would be a good idea to introduce licences for owners wanting to raise guard dogs or dogs with a violent reputation. I.E. they have to comply with a set of standards.

I dunno, just thinking out loud. I'm prepared to be told to shut my face.

Shut your face, Biatch!

Nah j/k... ;) :P

Nah, I dont think we need licenses cause that would just mean everyone has to pay, cost everyone alot more money, just because 1% of the population fuck up when it comes to pets.
I dont think we should go to a society where we have to have licenses for everything we do (pets, kids, bicycle-driving, skateboarding, playing outside, etc etc)
Normal parents should just teach their kids normal values, so also to treat animals kind and respectfully.
I just feel animal abuse and neglect should be punished more severely.

That way you only punish the people that harm animals or arent suited for raising them, instead of punishing the whole community ...

I think people should just think before they buy an animal, most dont and let them go wild, or even near a child. I would not ever let my children get near and dog, no matter how cute they look, no way you can judge a dogs thoughts, unless you are a cocky sod who thinks they know dogs  which many morons think so, ussually before they are bitten and have their thoats ripped out.

we have a family a few doors away with 2 rottweilers, nasty little bastards...they go nuts whenever you walk past the gate, the couple also have kids. personally i would be very careful abotu any dog when bringing into a family, which is why we got rid of keshi (yeah he is gone now :( ) because we didnt want him toseriously harm the kids. peopel think little dogs are nice, but well i was bitten by a little dog, jack russel, when i was around 7 it ripped my finger apart, down to the bone in places, i sitll have trouble strightening it without forcing it...it made me scared of dogs for a while, but the dog wasnt put down. i was glad of that.

i am on the fence about the punishment for animals, becuase its their natural instinct to do this really, and it has been shown one of the main things to wind a dog up is ababy screaming and crying. however it is also shown once they get the taste for blood, they re more likley to re-attack, i value all life as imporant, but that of a child is so much more precious than most things. although i really dislike the thought of an animal being killed for something natural, i do think the parents were partly to blame, they should have made sure the dogs couldnt gain access to the childs crib.

I too was done in by a jack russel, as a Toddler for me, I still have the scar :( they get over excited poor little things.

Thats the problem with most dogs, they maybe playing and forget it can hurt, sadly for us and them. We now have 2 minature whippets, both very soft and small, but easily could snap with a child and hurt them.

I generally loathe Jack Russels, nasty little bastard creatures with a mean streak a mile wide, but a friend of the family has an old girl Jack Russel that they took in from a home and it was seriously mistreated for many years but it's the nicest, most docile dog you'll ever meet. My aunt also only ever keeps staffordshire bull terriers, and I swear each one she's owned has had the exact same personality. Their current Bull Terrier is so energetic andover-friendly that they actually have to sedate him sometimes when visitors come round coz he just runs around and jumps on everyone trying to lick them to death. Me and my parents have sometimes visited their house before and the dog got so excited it literally ran headfirst into a door! :D

Similary a cousin owns a fucking huge rottweiler (big even by their standards) that is very playful and doesn't have a mean streak in its body. Usually a dog like this develops an agressive temperament because of how they're treated as a pup. You have to give them lots of care and more importantly attention, and keep them around children for them to grow up placid.

The truth is, there are that many dog attacks across the country each year that you can pretty much take any breed and label it as "dangerous" by citing the various attacks going on each year. Hell in my own experience as a child I was attacked twice by Alsatians (one a friend's and a neighbour's that fucking tried to attack me again a year later the fucker :D) and was carried away by a Dobermann as a baby. Luckily for me though each attack only resulted in superficial wounds.

Rottweilers are the breed the press currently have it in for, back in the early 90's it was Pit Bulls and there was constant reports of horrible attacks. Once they get Rottweilers classified as an illegal Violent Dog they'll probably move on to another breed a few years down the line.

You not heard of the Violent Dogs Act of 1991 Bisc? That's pretty much what this is, but there's only a few breeds on the list.

Then let's clarify it a little:

1. There's no such thing as a "naturally bad dog". Even Pitbulls are quite affectionate.

2. I have known many Rottweilers. While they're naturally agressive, no normal Rottweiler would attack a baby.

3. Anybody who says "the dogs needed to be punished" is an idiot. That's right, I'm calling most of you "idiots". The dogs aren't at fault here.
The problem lies with either the owners or the trainer.
If anyone deserves to die, it's them.

-If you give a gun to a chimp and the chimp shoots someone, you don't blame the chimp.
-If you put a kid next to a dog who has been trained to kill, and the dog tears the baby to shreds, YOU DON'T BLAME THE DOG (even though you'd feel like it).

4. They could have put the dogs in a kennel, or a farm, or given them to people who can teach them to be more affectionate. Destroying them was not only unnecessary, but also VERY VERY WRONG.

I hope my post makes more sense now. :)

Oh, I blame the owners big time.

But I also believe a dog that has commited such a violent act cannot be allowed to live. If only for the safety of others in future. It's got a taste for blood now. It's too late.

In general such naturally vicious breeds shouldn't be allowed as pets. Yes, all dogs are capable of bite and attack, but these dogs are strong and dangerous. It's in their genes. I'm not saying that makes them "bad dogs" inherently. Just unsuitable as pets.

I know you love animals Tom. So do I. But your misanthropy is beyond even me.

I don't even "like" dogs.

I respect them as a species. That's a big difference.

Misanthropy: Hatred or distrust of the human race.

No, my attitude is more of a "There's 6 billion of 'em so I don't care if some of them live or die" nature. :D

Anyway, sorry for going slightly off-topic.

wow tom your comment totally disgusted me...yeah humans are pricks, but a child...a 5 month old child, does not deserve to be killed, a child is innocent, unless you adhere to the medieval idea that a child is born with the sins of his father

your comment has really asstounded me, your lack of empathy and total disrepect for life is a new low...
