Thanks Mordib.

Like I said earlier it's really down to the mods who run this site at the end of the day (with Mordib being the final decision maker). I didn't feel it nessecary to ask permission from the other mods first for the reasons Mordib just mentioned.

Mordib when he appointed me one of the mods!

Good point, done.

Grim, Mordib or Nils would you mind also voting. I notice Grim or Mordib I presume have voted so that really just leaves the other one to also vote before the word is kept banned or not. I'm not sure we're going to hear from Nils tbh.

I'd be interested to hear who voted to keep the word banned out of the general members. If they want to speak up?

I would appreciate everyone voting though. With 217 views 7 votes isn't really enough.

Someone thinks highly of himself!! Being a mod doesn't qualify you - or I for that matter - to decide on behalf of women what they like and dislike, what offends them and what doesn't. Let's be clear about that.

I'm not gonna bother writing an ass-long story about my views in censorship and how I fucking hate it and find it ridiculous, especially since we're all grown ups here who get to watch and see and read whatever is happening in the world on TV each and everyday, and hear swearing each and everyday...

Fuck censorship. There are more important things to debate about. If you wanna behave like mommas and pretend we're all lil kids that get corrupted if we read or use the word CUNT, then please just get a fucking life...

Damn... still a longer post i originally intended...

Er... why the public poll at all, then ?

I thought it was all about:

Time for everyone to calm down and get back to their senses, methinks. Not that what I think matters, fortunately I don't have the responsibility of being a mod ;)

By the way, what did you mean about Nils ? :?

So far 2 mods have voted (Brad and Grim AFAIK).
1 for yes.
1 for no.

@Mordib:
I think you should vote (if you haven't already). :)

The fact that you are the administrator doesn't change anything.
If you have a brain then you must have an opinion (and I'd like to hear it). :)
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

You know, I didn't even bother to read through all this - simply because I've read it several times in the past on several other forums...

In the end it boils down to a few simple fact...
Some do NOT want swearing/agressivness on the forum
Some do NOT want censorship

The main problem being that the persons that are against censorship are usually the more educated and "calm" persons that seldom turn to swearing/agressivness in their posts.

Some people just have to swear - they think it makes them cool or whatever. To me they just look like illiterate geeks that can't get their point across using normal language.

I'm against all kinds of imposed censorship, yet I once instated a ban/swear filter on a forum I administered - simply because some people just don't know when enough is enough. And just like here, the filter caused more agressiveness to shine through.

But I firmly believe that if we have users that repeatedly would offend such a filter - they should be talked to and eventually removed from the site. If BnB is to grow from this pitifull life it has now into something great and shiny we need a more serious tone and language. If not, swear away...
So long, and thanks for all the fish!

So we can see everyones opinion. I'm intrigued there are two members who disagree with the general consensus. This is more than I expected considering the outrage this thread has caused.

I've asked Mordib or Nils to vote. It's a 50/50 thing right now.

Hey guys here's my thoguhts..........

I think that banning the word is wrong either have a proper no swearing its also kids site rule (like dvd forums) or all swearing stands were adults.

BnB has always been the later. (which i prefare and agree with)

The word itself is a bad one but for the most part i saw this small cumminty (how many regualres actaully post) as people who wouldn't use the word againts each other.

Saying that fucking CVNT mod Nils edited my posts is diffent to saying hey those bbfc are cvnts for cutting so and so.

If someone comes and uses personal abuse at another member well thats a diffrent matter.
I fully understand why Brad has done this and if the word is used as abusive then it should be looked at but i dont think it should be banned

Also have the word sesored will mean people will start to use it more by tring a veriation to get around the word.

Personal attacks a not allowed (or shoudn't be) ............

So... you definitely believe that the only thing to be taken into account at all in this matter are the votes of the three people who happen to be nominated moderators currently, together with the site admin himself, and that the extension of the poll to the general forum community is but a simple coincidence or sheer technical curiosity as you put it, and hasn't nor it should have any weight whatsoever in the decision ?

I agree with Nils, if the word is used in an abusive, insulting way towards specific members it should be looked into, but not if we say something like "The BBFC are c*nts" :D

Agressive Racism/homophobia (actually racism of any kind) and mean-spirited sexism (I have no probs with threads like Rascalf's "Lets Hear it for the Boys" whatsoever BTW) are unacceptable IMO.

I'd like to clarify a few things now that I've thoroughly re-read this thread.

-----
Brad:
Being British, you've lived with censorship all your life. Movies, TV, Music, etc... Everything is always slightly cut or censored.
(I'm not here to judge, I'm just stating the facts).

This is probably why banning one word doesn't seem to be a big deal to you.

And this is exactly why you can't understand why it would be so horrifying for a frenchman.
I only realized this when you said that I was overreacting.

Now I understand why you did it without asking. :)
-----
Second:
While I was reading my own posts, I realized that it looked like my "threatening to leave" was a way to put pressure on Brad so that he would un-ban the word.
It's not the case.
Bradavon is a mod. I'm just a member.
I fully understand and accept this hierarchy.

I know I can't fight a mod's decision, so the only thing that I can do is disagree.
If for some reason the issue can't be resolved, it means I have to leave.

It's all about principles.
If I don't have my principles, what do I have left ?
Just an IQ of 135 and a 9-inch penis. :D

-----
About the word itself: Why "c**t" ? There is no reason to ban "c**t" and not "dick" or "bollocks".

Bottom-line : I find the very idea of a profanity filter insulting, especially on a small forum like this one where I can count the regular posting members using just two hands.
Among these members, only one or two of them (you know who you are  ) use swearing frequently. However, as long as they're not insulting each other, I think we'll be okay.

:)
I used to be "the man who loves the movies you hate".
Now I'm just "that weird french guy with a cat avatar who comes to BnB once a year for no reason and then disappears again".

Some years ago i often looked at the monsterzero Godzilla forum, which had some "bad words" filtered out, and it was rather annoying to see the effects of those filters in mine and others posts.
For example, "shit" was banned, so you could not talk about someone with japanese names such as Morishita, Shitamura, Yoshitaka,...

cunt :P
edit: oh, it's not filtered anymore :(

cunt

cunted

I'll leave this log open so members can air their views if they want to. Unless anyone objects I'll lock it later tonight.

Good thoughts there Tom, but allow me to add that it's not exactly as if every british is formatted to censorship or anything even remotely close. Many people in the UK these days are very self-aware of such things. Illustration: romerojpg and Markgway who called the forum's attention to these events are both british :)

Firstly I find it very hard to believe France as a country doesn't censor anything. Is bestiality and/or paedophilia shown on a nightly basis? Maybe around lunch time or the kids dinner time.

OMG I can't believe you've drawn these conclusions because nothing is further from the truth.

I'll "repeat" what I said earlier the reason it's not a big deal to me because to me it's not about principles or about censorship it's about the unnecessary use of an offensive word that not only offends a great deal of people but is much more than just a word to the same people.

Which is the whole reason I only ever intended to ban the one word. There is no comparison between dick, bollocks and cunt. There are none.

To clarify my case I've known people to refuse to buy the HKL OUATIC3 DVD but instead have bought the uber crap HK DVD just because it's cut by a few seconds, if that.

I own the UK R2 Face/Off DVD. I known it's cut but I don't give two hoots, why? Because I'll never notice the cuts anyway. The fact it is actually cut to me seems irrelevant because for all the difference it makes it may as well not be an issue. To me anyway.

Hell I'm a bloke and if someone called me a cunt I'd be very angry.

To be honest and I mean this is 100% truthfully your nationality never even came into my head. Mark is British and I was as shocked about his extreme stance (to me) as I am yours.

I said you were overreacting purely and simply because to me you were overreacting to what is only to me a word. Like I said it didn't even occur to me this was a censorship issue until Mark brought it up.

Also like I said before I don't feel the need to run by all my decisions with everyone here before I make them. I added 2 new sub-forums last night. Should I have asked for approval first?

Thank you for clarifying this. As it's how I at least took it.

But you're right by all means complain when you disagree you would be lesser a person if you didn't. I decided to stand by my principles by not doing a u-turn.

I can't help feeling you and most other people have completely missed the point or at least my point for putting this ban in in the first place.

I never said I'd ban swearing. I don't have the power anyway and am against it as much as everyone else. I purely feel/felt that the word cunt offended such a high level of people that it should be disallowed.

Everyone has been discussing the censorship of swearing. I'll repeat myself again this was and never has been my intention.

Lastly :) :) :) . We're all adults so lets move one. As I'm sure we all want to anyway.

Can I ask everyone who's reading this read and post on the forum rules thread:

https://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/phpBB2/ ... .php?t=515

As it says inside they are all just suggestions right now. I feel rules (lax or tight) can only help a forum. Again have your say.

Firstly I find it very hard to believe France as a country doesn't censor anything. Is bestiality and/or paedophilia shown on a nightly basis? Maybe around lunch time or the kids dinner time.
Bestiality and paedophilia is very rare in movies (AFAIK).
On french TV the most violent movies are shown late at night (when the kiddies are sleeping).
Some channels censor the word "f**k" in Eminem's songs and some others don't.

Talking about cinema: Violence, rape, animal cruelty and "dangerous imitable techniques" are not censored at all.
If a movie is extremely violent it gets a 16 or 18 rating and that's it.

What we do censor, though, is TV commercials. Dangerous stuff (like alcohol and cigarettes) is banned.

I'm not saying that France as a country doesn't censor anything.
But I've never seen a word get banned on a french forum, that's all.
I added 2 new sub-forums last night. Should I have asked for approval first?
Of course not. But if one day you want to REMOVE a sub-forum, you should ask first.
I decided to stand by my principles by not doing a u-turn.
I respect that. Moving On... :)
