Miami Vice (2006) - DVD specs

Post by EvaUnit02 »

First specs for the Miami Vice DVD. Doubtful that there'll be a DTS track, since Universal rarely bother with them any more.
Hi all,

Picked up my R4 copy of 'Slither' this morning and the insert has some details on the 'Miami Vice' release, due on November 29.

- Audio Commentary with Director Michael Mann
- Deleted Scenes & outtakes
- Multiple Camera Angles
- Pre-production
- Real World High-tech Global Crime
- Special Effects & Stunts
- The Visual & Aural Style
- The Locations
- Creating the Chemistry between Crockett and Isabella

That's a quick turnaround for something that has only recently been in cinemas (and still showing). I haven't had time to see it in the cinema yet, so may just wait for dvd now. :) R2 is out in November too (according to a dvd retailer site).

Quick turnaround as it was a BIG FLOP, they definatly didnt make the 200 million budget back, ignorant idiots should have spent that much on a shit looking action film anyway.

Its all their own fault, it deserved to flop a lot worse than it did thats for sure, aragant filmmaking at its worst. Why spend 5 million!!!!!! on a location in the real place, they could have shot the stupid scene anywhere for a fraction of that price. The locations killed the film and made the film cost 10 times more than it should.

When its cheap :D

The films not the problem, its the way its made and the look of the final film for me (Digital is dire in Manns hands) :) the troubled production was their fault, what the hell did they expect shooting the film in authentic locations where people really kill each other and smuggle drugs . The whole crew deserved everting that happened to them, and boy it was such a waste of shitloads of cash filiming in such ignorant places when it could easily have been shot anywhere at all! then fill in the autentic feel in the editing room and CGI, it would have been far, far cheaper than employing 300 bodyguards to stop the stars being kidnapped!!

Some people bitch and moan about CGI being used in place of the real thing (regardless of how it looks), and then others complain about real locations. You can't win .

I can't think of any other director that is using digital as extensively as Mann, with the exception of Lucas, but he's only using it so he can more effectively control the various elements in the screen.
Again, I find myself in the minority it seems in liking a film

David Lynch LOVES HD now and doesn't want to go back to tradition celluloid technology. Lynch's Inland Empire was shot 100% in HD. James Cameron will be filming Avatar and later Battle Angel in with HD 3D technology. George Lucas filmed Clones and Sith in HD as well.

The difference is very, very few people would even tell if it was shot somewhere else! they wasted millions shooting in places where they should not have beeen shooting in the forst place! someone deserved to be killed, as hell they were shot at and robbed, hurt etc.. they deserved it all. Directors arragance. It looked like it was shot in someones backyard anyway so its not as if the end product was worth risking peoples lives for.

Most of those extras aren't appearing. R1 spec:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=62917

Unless the R4 is getting different extras??? EzyDVD are offering an Exclusive Tin with 2nd disc of Exclusive extras:

http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/789492

If it were confirmed disc 1 was the same as the R1 (assuming the R1 is 1 disc) I'd preorder the R4:

EXCLUSIVE Bonus Features DVD

* Introduction to Miami Vice: Writer/Director Michael Mann, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx explain the appeal of this big screen incarnation featuring clips and behind the scenes material. Production Designer Victor Kempster also provides an overview of the style palette he created.
* Toys for the Boys: The cars, the choppers, the boats, the weapons. Michael Mann discusses their importance while Colin and Jamie pick their toys of choice.
* Miami Fashion: Oscar winning Costume Designer Janty Yates talks about her inspiration and creations for the film. Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx reveal their favourite outfits whilst Simon Mills (Contributing Editor British GQ) talks about the impact of the film’s fashions on the high street.
* Miami Ladies: Michael Mann, Colin and Jamie describe the sex appeal of the Miami molls. We also talk to Gong Li and Naomie Harris about their roles in the film.
* Miami Beats: Michael Mann chats about the inspiration behind the music created for the film. Jamie Foxx discusses the track he recorded especially for it and there’s footage from the set of his accompanying music promo.

Since the R4 is getting the Mann commentary, would we be getting the DC? Only the R1 DC has the commentary.

I guess so. Where's it been confirmed the Mann commentary is present?

It all depends if the R1 DC is 2 discs or 1 for me. I suspect it's 1 disc.

Ah true but those extras are loads different than the R1. Are they still coming?

The deleted scenes alone make the R4 look better than the R1.

Fuck, I sure would've bought the HD-DVD combo disc if it had the DC on both sides. Nice going Universal.

UK R2 Spec. is up and it sucks: http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=63057

Regarding the R4 Exclusive extras:

Join the undercover team in this Limited Embossed Collector's Tin only available at EzyDVD featuring an EXCLUSIVE and LIMITED Bonus Features Disc containing an additional 22 minutes of extras!

22 Minutes for a whole second disc is barely worth bothering with. Still it does get deleted scenes on the standard version (disc 1).

No extras details either but that doesn't mean there won't be any, I just wouldn't expect quite as much as you are. In fact I'd expect something very similar to this R2, which makes it all the more odd that our release isn't coded for R4.

That's just my 2p's worth though. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I like that cover, much better than the R1. Honestly what's wrong with Universal? R2 (and R4) got the Director's Cuts of Land of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead 2004, why not this then?

Nothings been mentioned either way. It has the commentary (unconfirmed) so it's certainly possible.

IF it turns out the R4 gets the DC then yes.

I'm waiting to see confirmed R4 extras before deciding. If it gets the TC then I'll get the DC, simple.

JimDriver2 wrote:Here you go Brad, good news and bad news. The R3 is now up on CD-WOW and its only £9.49 but it looks like its identical to the R2 TC version at 133 mins rather than the R1 140 mins DC. Extras are listed as:

Feature Commentary with Writer/Director Michael Mann
Miami Vice Undercover
Miami & Beyond: Shooting on Location
Visualizing Miami Vice
Behind the Scenes Featurettes

Here's the link: http://www.cd-wow.com/detail_results_2. ... ffid=13858
I'm willing to bet:

1. It is the DC as the extras identical to the R1 DC and the running time is wrong
2. The running time is right and the extras are wrong

I bet it's the first one, CD WOW often get the running time wrong but not the extras. I'll e-mail them.

Fingers crossed on an R1 DC effectively for under £10 :D
