The Bullets Rules Brainstorming Thread!
Bullets n Babes DVD Forum - Terms and Conditions
These are merely suggestions at the moment.
Here are the rules as we have them so far in basic rough form:
Webmaster e-mail address: mordib@bulletsnbabesdvd.com
From time to time these terms and conditions maybe updated if so clear information will be provided on Bullets n Babes DVD Forum letting bulleteers/members know this. By registering and using the Bullets n Babes DVD Forum you agree to abide by these terms and conditions:
Serious Rules
We all want Bullets n Babes DVD to be a relaxed friendly forum with that in mind the rules will be treated as such. A break of the Serious Rules will result in a mention on the topic in question asking for the relevant bulleteer to cease said discussion and if necessary to edit their post.
01. The webmaster has final say followed by the mods.
02. Discussion of anything breaking the law is banned such as (but not limited to) bootlegging or how best to commit suicide, drug taking techniques and murder. To clarify that doesn't mean discussion of said topics are banned out right. A debate around (but not limited to) drug taking isn't banned nor is debate around bootlegging; to make it ultra clear however discussing the best places to download bootleg/copyright software is banned.
03. Do not post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by the operator of the BulletsnBabesdvd.com. If anyone sees material or work copyrighted to them and they'd like it removed private message the webmaster or one of the mods and they will remove it.
04. Warning System: https://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/ ... c.php?t=60 . We don't envision ever having to use this!
05. No posting of graphic or hard-core pictures (pornographic, mutilation or bestiality). If such pictures are to be posted as part of a debate (for example) then provide a link clearing stating what the link contains.
06. Posting information that may invade the personal privacy of any other person or bulleteer is banned (without their prior consent). This includes posting e-mail address of employers of companies such as (but not limited to) Hong Kong Legends.
07. Sales, Trades and Bargains sub-forum: Posting links or information to e-tailors selling an item up for sale/trade cheaper than the bulleteer has advertised is not allowed. Private Message the bulleteer who is free to then decide whether to change the price or not. They own the thread!
Etiquette Rules
These rules are more a pointer to what is acceptable or instructions on how best to use the forum. Again a break of the Etiquette Rules will result in a mention on the topic in question, usually nothing more.
08. If you have a complaint about the way a mod or the webmaster has decided to implement a rule private message them or the webmaster. That's not to say you're not allowed to publicly disagree as long as it doesn't go over board.
09. Going off topic is allowed as long as it doesn't go over board, if so the thread maybe split (or locked).
10. No flame wars, trolling or spamming - We're all adults, if it's apparent the thread has gone off topic then it's up to bulleteers to put it back on track.
11. No sexist, homophobic or racist remarks. Having said that free speech is important on Bullets n Babes DVD so bare that in mind.
12. Use spoiler tags if appropriate. Bullets n Babes DVD is equipped with such a function please use it.
13. If a bulleteer would like a thread unlocked private message a mod or the webmaster.
14. Post in the correct forum. This is not a strict rule as sometimes it makes sense to post in other forums, for example an Asian DVD bargain can be posted in the Asian film forum.
15. When quoting also quote your source, if you have a link also include it.
16. Soft-core pornography is acceptable.
Etiquette Rules - Sales, Trades and Bargains
These are specifically for the Sales, Trades and Bargains sub-forum:
17. When a sale/trade thread is finished with change the subject to "Please close thread" or words to that affect. This allows mods to close the thread and later on delete it.
18. Only one active/open (i.e - not locked) sale/trade thread. To clarify if the item you are selling is wildly different then multiple threads will be allowed.
19. Monitor your sales/trades threads. It is annoying to potential buyers to have to waste time looking at old threads that are not marked as such; when a thread is finished with utilise rule 20. When you want to sell a DVD you must give a for sale price.
21. When selling/trading a DVD you must give what region it is and if it's from a multi-country region (e.g - region 2) also specify the country too. The film's title is not sufficient!
22. All sale/trade threads that haven't been looked at in over 3 months will be deleted. Common sense will be used here, if for example an old thread listing someone's Ebay link is older than 3 months it wouldn't be deleted.
These are merely suggestions at the moment.

Re: The Bullets Forum Rules Thread!
1: Bullshit. It's just a 4 letter word. We're not kids.bradavon wrote:The recent discussion of a word being banned has brought to the light the lack of rules on this forum. I therefore propose we all draw up a set of rules and abide by them.
Mordib and then the mods will of course have final say. Let me start:
1. The word c**t is to be banned.
2. No flame wars - we all hate them, the thread will be locked.
3. No sexist, homophobic or racist remarks, do people disagree is this a form of censorship?
4. Discussion of anything breaking the law is not allowed.
These are merely suggestions at the moment.
2: Can't say I've ever been personally bothered by any flamewars, unless they go off-topic too much... However, a good flamewar which IS ontopic, can be highly entertaining.
Plus what one person might consider a FLAME ('Ooooohhhhh... he's flaming me...(!) Now I'm hurt(!)....') can just be a sarcasting remark to someone else. And another person might just enjoy the quick wit going around...
I get much more annoyed by threads getting closed because a mod thinks there's a flamewar going on, then the actual flamewars.
If people get annoyed, just steer the discussion back on-topic, which usually isnt that hard to do... and it saves the thread...
3: I dont really mind sexist remarks since we're all pretty advanced I think in equality. So anything 'sexist' is probably just meant as a joke...
Ofcourse, since women dont have any kind of humour whatsoever, they might consider it 'sexist', but I just say :'fuck them!, let them get back to there lil household chores and let us boys be...'
Racism... havent really experienced it yet on this forum...
Most, if not all of us, are on an ASIAN CINEMA FORUM... so I doubt there would be many, if any, racist people dropping by. If one such lonely idiot DOES drop by, I'm sure he'd be kinda barking up the wrong tree in the wrong forrest ...
Also, where would the line be drawn!? Can we all still 'hate yankees' and think Bush is a damn redneck bastard?
Also havent heard any homophobic jokes or sneers or whatever here... and again, I think us rational people could deal with that kind of dumbness if it comes allong...
Hell... we have all accepted and embraced Mark, havent we!? What more do you want from us?
So basically, although I'm ofcourse against racism, homophobia or sexism... I think we are all grown up enough to deal with that if it comes along on the forum, be it by just ignoring the idiot so he will go away, or just confront him... or whatever...
I never think banning or censoring etc is the answer, unless someone is SPAMMING.
4: Well... again, I personally have no problem with this stuff being discussed. Let's stop being hypocrites for just a second, cause we all download stuff occasionally... be it music, or photoshop, or anime or whatever. Ofcourse this is something that differs from person to person, so some people think we shouldnt talk about it as it's illegal (even though he himself does it as well...just as everyone else), and some people will feel we should be able to help eachother openly...
Plus again, there is the problem of all the things that are mabye/maybe not considered illegal, like downloading unlicensed anime, or licensed anime that's been butchered, or downloading asian movies or music cd's that arent available to buy (Fist of Legend, some WKW music cd's that are out of print etc)
As you can tell, I'm pretty much against all the 'hush hush, let's censor this and that and them' attitude.
Mods should just make sure that there isnt anybody spamming the boards with useless posts/threads, and harrassing other users (which is different from flamewars), and just throw in a nice discussion or poll occassionally...

I personally agree with you as far as bootlegging goes (not to be confused with the wider issue of illegal stuff in general, which is what no. 4 is saying) but added it as we don't want the site closed down, an extreme example I know.
I don't necessarily agree with any of them but figured we should have some rules. Nothing over the top.

1) I've posted my views on the ongoing poll thread. IMO the use of a word filter is as unwelcome as ultimately pointless, for the reasons I've posted there. As for the banning of just one particular word... well... looks like some kind of fixation to me, to be honest.
2) Probably not many people would want a forum littered with over-the-top mutual rants that have long surpassed the limits of basic respect, common sense, and - having a point anymore. Of course, some common sense must also be applied to make a proper evaluation of each case and use an adequate level of force. Stepping in to warn users and try to calm things down before they escalate too much and only delete what's uncalled for may be preferable to lock or delete everything away, possibly losing valuable information and interesting threads because of one or two troublemakers hijacking them. Waste the troublemakers and their garbage, don't waste the good part of the thread.
3) Highly dependent on context, and again best evaluated case by case. People tend to be a little more intimate as they get to know a bit more of each other with the passing of time, even online, and that sometimes make for innocent and playful antics between them. That can actually be quite healthy, since it tends to bring people of different races, sexes, cultures and mind sets closer to each other, breaking a bit of the ice inherent to those barriers and with luck expanding the horizons of some of them by a notch.
Naturally, any deliberate, direct, gratuitous attempt to insult someone with a clear bad intention, namely inside an ongoing discussion turned sour, should be swiftly dealt with.
To be honest, I would also personally do without retarded generalist comments a la "it's as gay as gay goes" or "man, that bitch's so hot, yo" (insert Beavis & Butthead style giggles). Sure, we can try and ignore them, but there's only so much stupidity and smell of teen spirit one can take in a day. But coming to Yi's post above, I'm glad we don't really have people like that posting here, and I too suspect they wouldn't last long anyway.
4) I know I'm repeating myself, but again, it's all about context. Stop the posting of links to illegal materials and the gratuitous promotion of illegal acts ? Agreed. As far as I'm concerned, that's the kind of abuse of such notions as "free speech" that will ultimately lead to the decadence of what we call democracy. Other factors of weight would be the always possible presence of underage posters, as well as the risk of attracting legal trouble to the people hosting the site, something which we as mere visitors sometimes forget about. But to stop a serious comment or discussion about something that's illegal ? I'm not so sure if I agree there. Still, it's an unfortunate truth that such discussions do tend to degenerate.
Final thoughts: I actually trust people in general to be able to use their common sense to behave under a flexible moderation, the same way I trust said moderation to use their own common sense to evaluate if there's a real need to act when exceptions arise and do so while remaining focused and impartial. Call me a fool if you want, for seeing simple things as simple as they really are - sometimes, events would make me look like one for saying this, I know, but hey, we're all human and we all have our higher and lower moments. It's part of what we call a dynamic equilibrium
Great, another long-winded big pile of bullshit that no one will read :sleepy1:

1. thats beeing discussed in the other thread, i will explain my own views this evening when I get home.
2. Flame wars. They detract from the main subjects being discussed and discourage new people from joining up (whether they are serious or not, people from the outside don't know that). My personal suggestion which is totally untested in the world of forums as far as I know is for the following -
Flame war definition - the repeated trading off of insults between posters without furthering the current discussion at all.
a) a flame war breaks out in any forum, any thread and whichever mod, or myself or anyone as long as they are constructive about it trys to calm it down (eg 'guys, your straying from the topic and being pretty juvenile in the process, please get back on topic or leave it alone')
bi) if a) doesnt work and there is no further discussion going on thats got anything to do with the subject in hand then it gets locked.
bii) if a) doesnt work but the flame war is intermingled with people still trying to have an active but positive discussion then effort will be made to split the thread, and the arguement part of the thread dumped in some sort of sinbin forum for all to see as the pointless fight it was. (the sinbin could be set to wipe stuff after a week or something)
c) if the people then return to the same thread and start up again then perhaps a cooling off suspension might be in order (stopped from posting for 24 hours or something). I don't believe in bannings and unless a significant majority want them I'd rather them not be a part of the site. apart from anything else they never ever work if the person being banned is suitably determined.
d) beyond that, well if someone is that hell bent on detroying the place then there are legal options I can take. If theyre in another country and so forth there probably isnt much we can do, but touch wood Ive never encountered someone THAT persistant.
3. This is really the hardest one to judge (sexism at least), there is no set line where something becomes offensive and different people get offended by different things. For example, this forum has had a 'fit film star' threads in the past and given the almost toally male population of the forum nearly all of the pics were of skimpily dressed females who were being admired for their bodies. A female colleague at work who's currently sitting about 5 metres away from me would find such a thing highly sexist and offensive. At the same time none of my female friends would and many women I have known over the years consider it natural and often complimentary when they get complimented on their physique (or 'oggled for my tits and ass' as one so unsubtely put it when I rasied the point). I would leave this one at making it clear to everyone that they are free to complain if they find something personally offensive, and that action will be taken to remove said comment if the complaint seems valid.
Racism (including comments about colour, sexual orientation, creed and/or religeon of a negative nature for the purposes of this paragraph) are increasingly becoming premise for legal action. Quite apart from the fact I dont approve of any of them and would rather people not act that way on the forum I definately don't want to be involved in litigation of any sort and as such will delete (with explanation to whoever wrote it) any comments of this nature I feel put myself at risk. I know its very unlikely to happen, but none the less in real life I work for a national charity and cannot afford for their sake or mine to be dragged down into such a wrangle.
4. Discussing how to actually carry out illegal activities such as ripping movies and burning them, where to download them from are certainly out. Discussing the merits or righteousnous of these activities is fine as long as everyone realises from the off that if its against the law its against the law, doing it, encouraging others to do it (eg promoting it) is all unacceptable. Rememebr if you were ever caught doing something illegal and you were known to have publicly stated you disagreed with the law in a discussion about the wrongs and rights of the latest action against those carrying out illegal activity is fine, talking about the latest copy protection is fine as long as you dont start highlighting ways to get round it. No links to places or people selling copied material. no selling of copied material. If someone comes on the forum asking a dodgy question, by all means POLITELY tell them to stop it, myself or a mod certainly will!
If youve actually read through all that then you deserve a medal! Remember I am not laying down the law here (except where the law is involved
) I am adding my opinion to a debate. I don't know whether this whole democratic thing will work, ive never seen it work anywhere else but thats no reason not to try!!

Nice points
Mordib, about point 3, I don't know if you were around and read those, but the female posters in the old BnB actually indulged in their own "Fit Male Pics & Discussion" threads and such
I am positively sure that no male poster felt insulted with that.
Just the kind of small detail to convey the idea that reasonable people can get along with each other in a friendly manner, when inside generally acceptable limits, without the need to make a storm inside a glass of water and to feel too easily offended by their own personal complexes and feelings of inferiority such as those potentially caused by differences of sex, race, etc. If there are such too-sensible or simply opportunist individuals, and we know there are, I would suggest that it's not the world's place to stop moving because of them, instead they should go out more and adapt themselves to reality.
While I would say that the name "Bullets'n' Babes" has never been a factor of success in attracting a large percentage of new female posters (
), specifically, those that did come by, I'd like to think and based on the observation of things like the above, had the conditions to feel as at home as their male co-posters, or at least as much so as it would be realistically possible in what is simply a part (this forum, and all forums, and the Internet) of the real world as we know it.
About the "democratic approach", being a poster in a number of forums out there I don't think it's that different from the average site rules. There are specific aspects which vary from place to place such as the word filter thing, but generally most forums are about the same global idea that we're posting about here, which would be along the lines of allowing a degree of freedom to people and let them express themselves without letting them abuse it beyond reasonable limits such as those we posted above, as the virtual reflection of real life that the Internet is and should be.
And hey, when everything else fails, Herr Moderaten and Von Administrationeng only have to come in and bash some heads, which also is exactly how it should be
I'll shut up now and let everyone else do the talking

There are specific aspects which vary from place to place such as the word filter thing, but generally most forums are about the same global idea that we're posting about here, which would be along the lines of allowing a degree of freedom to people and let them express themselves without letting them abuse it beyond reasonable limits such as those we posted above, as the virtual reflection of real life that the Internet is and should be.
And hey, when everything else fails, Herr Moderaten and Von Administrationeng only have to come in and bash some heads, which also is exactly how it should be
I'll shut up now and let everyone else do the talking

Some very good points there Mordib. Of which I'd have to agree.
Feel free to add some new suggestions, mine are merely a starting point. I've just tried to add a poll but it's not suitable as you can only choose one option.
So I suggest everyone replies with the rules they agree on. A simple one liner (if it helps add in the title that you agree) is enough, don't bother to mention the rules you disagree on. That way we can see what rules people agree with.
p.s - I actually post a fifth rule that people seem to have missed

Just to throw something into the mix:
The idea of women being offended by pornography in Thailand would never happen. Thai women in my experience at least not only expect it, they see it as natural for men to perv (which is essentially what it is).
I have no problem with it and IMO women who do can take it to far.
I work for the police force where censorship, pornography, racism, sexism is so tightly controlled you wouldn't believe. I've mentioned it before here but the police force has got PC so far stuck up it's backside it's gone the opposite and now rules are in place that are so ridiculous it makes me laugh even thinking about saying them. The latest one, the word "lady" is suddenly offensive to lesbians. This being said by heterosexual women/men. You have to call a female a woman. Which to me is more offensive (if I had to pick one). Why? Because of the "Little Britain" sketch.
My response why one earth is someone who cares so much about PC watching "Little Britain"?
Are members effectively saying we don't need rules? Personally I think this may lead to more harm. Which is why I suggest some basic rules.

Well... SOME rules... like I said before SPAMMING is a big no no... and with spamming I only mean someone coming on this board, posting useless wild phrases that mean absolutely nothing at all and are only there to anoy... like 'this is my 1st POST! WHOOOOHOOO!' This is my 2nd POST!!! YEAHHH!! etc etc... you know basically just idiots who strolled by with a half hour to kill or whatever and decide they wanna mess up the forum and the threads...bradavon wrote:

I'm also in favour of rules that you cant post GORY pics, like decapitated people or gouged-out eyeballs etc without a fair warning (preferably not at all ofcourse, and luckily I havent seen it at the forum so I doubt this will ever be a problem here, but I got the idea from a news-site today that posted some gory pics about the hacked and slashed guy in london today, without warning...
Plus I want people to use spoiler tags or whatever if they're gonna use spoilers while discussing a movie...
That's pretty much all... all teh other stuff and my views on it I have already explained in great detail
But basically, yeah: pretty much no censorship or rules please...

You know people, I abhore this idea of locking threads... like the cunt thread... why did it need to be locked? Thing is, if people want to discuss something and you lock it, it will only spread into new or other threads...
I say it's best to let one thread idle away instead of locking'em... atleast that way I could just ignore the thread/subject instead of reading about it everywhere else... (I'm talking from experience here!)

just a quicky, to all of you that are thinking 'why do we have to write down these rules, surely they're the most obvious things in the world' please remember that all the regulars here today seem to be pretty intelligent and logical people, not everyone is lucky enough to be so, and for them we are stating the obvious to save possible embarresment

8. All trade posts that haven't been looked at in over 3 months will be deleted. Common sense will be used here of course, if an old thread listing someones Ebay link is older than 3 months it wouldn't be deleted.
I'll tot up all these rules in a day or so (including the ones from other members, not just me) and compile a list.

It's a bit late so sorry if I miss any but here are the rules as we have them so far in basic rough form:
01. The webmaster has final say followed by the mods
02. No flame wars - we all hate them, the thread will be locked.
03. No sexist, homophobic or racist remarks.
04. No posting of graphics pictures (pornographic or mutilation).
05. No trolling or spamming.
06. Try to remember to use spoiler tags.
07. Discussion of anything breaking the law is not allowed (including bootlegging and bootlegging techniques).
08. When a sale/trade thread is finished with change the subject to "Please close thread" or words to that affect.
09. Lock threads only when they've long since past their sell by date.
10. Going off topic is allowed as long as it doesn't go over board, if so the thread maybe split (or locked).
11. Warning System: https://www.bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/ ... c.php?t=60
12. All trade posts that haven't been looked at in over 3 months will be deleted. Common sense will be used here of course, if an old thread listing someone's Ebay link is older than 3 months it wouldn't be deleted.
13. Post in the correct forum. I don't think this should be to strict as sometimes it makes sense to post in other forums, for example an Asian DVD bargain can be posted in the Asian film forum.

1 - I think this is fair enough.
2 - Only if they get out of hand. Nothing malicious at all should be allowed, but hopefully we are all decent enough here to control ourselves in arguements.
3 - Again only if they are malicious in intent. We all (probably) make sexist remarks at some time, but don't mean them - blonde jokes - but wouldn't think about them being banned.
4 - I think that is more down to the web provider. If they won't allow those images then it is a definite no no. But if they do, if a thread is going to include any graphic in the way you describe the subject line should explicitly state so, so people not to go into that thread if that is something they don't want to see. As long as it isn't pics of anything illegal, we are all mature enough (hopefully) to look at what we want. Does raise questions though for out under 18s here.
5 - Not sure what trolling is, but definitely no spamming.
6 - Agree with this one.
7 - On the whole I agree, but I don't think we shouldn't be allowed to mention bootlegs. As long as we don't talk about how to do them, where to get them etc... then it should be ok, no?
8 - Yeah, agree here too. but this should be more common courtesy rather than a hard set rule that people can get in trouble for not doing.
9 - Only if there really will be no point in them being ressurrected at some point. Who's to know when conversations might come back around?
10 - yes. Conversations evolve, so the topic should be allowed to as well.
11 - I guess... but not sure how you'd implement it. If you are going to do things like warnings, it is quite likely that people will disagree. If a warning is issued surely there should be a right of appeal or something? But then that makes it all too complicated.
12 - Yeah, will help keep things tidier around here!
13 - agree.
That's my 1p worth.

In the following hopefully you can tell what is my opinion and what is already fact, if not tell me and I will split it up better...
----------------------
on the topic of number 4. a couple of points
a) pics n videos including hardcore porn, bestiality, rape are not allowed from the off. This does not mean you cant put up a disturbing pic of a mass grave or a tortured animal/person in a discussion in which the image is relevant.
b)I'd like to propose the use of NWS (not work safe) tags, as in if you are posting up a thread with images that could be considered offensive to some (or that you wouldnt like your boss to see!) then you label the thread with **NWS** its worked great on other forums i've been involved on.
-------------------------
on number 7, 'i disagree with the law on downloading stuff' is fine. 'i actively pirate stuff' is a pretty stupid thing to put on a public forum but fine (I am not going to stop you from confessing to crimes on the site unless it infringes on my legality. I am also going to help the authorities in anyway they can if I am asked to do so.). 'this site shows you how to...', 'you can do it this way..', 'try checking out....' or any other post which in any way helps other posters in any illegal activity is not fine. Incitement to break the law is also not fine.
-------------------
5. trolling = posting purely to start arguements, cause trouble. Rather hard to prove unfortunately. Spamming (a), its my one exception to my wish not to see people get banned, any members that join and immediately start trying to sell stuff, pimping services etc will get banned and all their posts rewritten into stories about puppies. Spamming (b) posting the same thing again and again....and again. please don't.
--------------------
11. [bossy hat on] if agreed to be used sparingly, id much rather the mods discuss a problem with the offender before warnings are handed out. if communication proves to be a problem then so be it.[bossy hat off] right of appeal, thats called emailing me, stating your case. I will discuss it with you and the mod that banned you.
--------------------
9. totally my personal view, how about threads only being locked in this nature if they reappear months later with no relevance?
-----------------------
I would like to also suggest that a whole bunch of these get combined into one, labelled 'forum etiquette'. lists that get too long make my eyes feel like bleeding...

01. The webmaster has final say followed by the mods
---
Yes, but open consultation is advisible.
---
02. No flame wars - we all hate them, the thread will be locked.
---
Yes, but make sure debate is not confused with hate.
---
03. No sexist, homophobic or racist remarks.
---
Yes, except in a humourous (or otherwise proper) context.
---
04. No posting of graphics pictures (pornographic or mutilation).
---
Yes, but softcore should be allowed.
---
05. No trolling or spamming.
---
Yes.
---
06. Try to remember to use spoiler tags.
---
Yes, if forgotten a mod can add one.

07. Discussion of anything breaking the law is not allowed (including bootlegging and bootlegging techniques).

No, I think this should be open to vote. As Bullets is no longer affiliated with official distributors the need for this rule has gone by the wayside. I would say it's now a matter of user preference. A compromise would be no dialogue regarding bootlegging of existing copyrighted product (ie. HKL, Celestial).

Yes, within reason. Sometimes going O/T can increase the interest or validity of a discussion.

I agree with what Mark says
IMO no to flame wars, but nothing wrong with healthy debate. Also I agree with the ban on racism, sexism and homophobic remarks.
I agree about going O/T too. Without being able to go OT we wouldnt have interesting threads like the vegetarianism one.
Softcore should be fine.
I dont think there should any censorship of language though, I mean for example on The Import Forum there is censorship when words appear as stars, so you can say "pissed" but not "piss off" which comes out as "*** off". Now that doesn't make sense to me as they even come from the same word???
I should update one thread more often in the Trade/Bargain forum when I do a trade thread, too often I post seperate threads. My bad

To clarify are you proposing that we should be able to openly discuss how to pirate copyrighted material, as in which programs to use, where to download the good stuff etc?Markgway wrote: 07. Discussion of anything breaking the law is not allowed (including bootlegging and bootlegging techniques).

It is true the site has no direct affiliations with any companies anymore, and as such it would not damage the site any if such things were discussed (as far as I know it is not actually illegal to discuss how to do such things, just the doing part).
It is also true however that myself and at least a few other members of the site are still connected to, have friendships/relationships with the distributors/companies or are part of law enforcement within their area and as such would suffer great embarresment, moral dismemberment if we were to allow such discussion to go on under our noses.
I hope this isnt going to be something thats going to cause a big issue, its very hard for me to allow this one to go the way of democracy because at the end of the day its not something a democratic vote can change, the personal cost to me is too great, i never considered it would be an issue (or even come up) when I took over the place
what do you think??

that was sooooooooo yesterday, as far as Im aware its not even on the list anymore, the right to swear was gained through the democratic processes of last week! Discuss? Yes. It's up to the individual user to act responsibly. If one doesn't want to be involved in this they need not post. For example I don't even have the ability to download these things, so it wouldn't benefit me, but banning discussion is never positive. Everyone has their own moral threshold. I'm happy to trade copies of hard-to-find films, but have no interest in paying money for bootlegs, making them myself or copying the latest releases. But not everyone will share my views.Mordib wrote:To clarify are you proposing that we should be able to openly discuss how to pirate copyrighted material, as in which programs to use, where to download the good stuff etc?
It's not illegal to discuss, but perhaps linking or promotion of these sites should be curtailed? That's a matter for Private Messages. It is true the site has no direct affiliations with any companies anymore, and as such it would not damage the site any if such things were discussed (as far as I know it is not actually illegal to discuss how to do such things, just the doing part).
I understand, but personal and professional relationships should ideally be seperated for the good of the forum. Unless these "friends" having a vested interest (ie. they advertise) they should have no more say in the matter than the average poster. It is also true however that myself and at least a few other members of the site are still connected to, have friendships/relationships with the distributors/companies or are part of law enforcement within their area and as such would suffer great embarresment, moral dismemberment if we were to allow such discussion to go on under our noses.
It's your site at the end of the day, but for sake of harmony I see no reason why you can't compromise at least to some extent? Maybe most people here don't care one way or the other? That's fine. I just felt it was worth mentioning rather than assuming that everyone felt the same. I think the best way to iron this out would be negotation of what's acceptable and allow all users a say. But for better or worse I guess that's up to you.I hope this isnt going to be something thats going to cause a big issue, its very hard for me to allow this one to go the way of democracy because at the end of the day its not something a democratic vote can change, the personal cost to me is too great, i never considered it would be an issue (or even come up) when I took over the place![]()

there are people working for certain distributors off whom i've recieved review disks before who whilst they never post, do regularly check forums and sites to see if they are mentioned or their movies reviewed (I can think of one lucky git who actually does this full time!! and no, i dont know how you land a job like that). its not looking that likely right now that anyone is going to provide BnB with any review discs or competition prizes, allowing the discussion of how to rip/ where to get ripped movies would gaurentee we wouldnt and risk any future projects or work I get in the field of dvds
None the less, I am in total agreement that we can at least discuss iteven if I cant promise my mind will be changed, i'd certainly be happy to hear other peoples thoughts on the matter, if people are keen on the idea and can come up with a suitable comprimise then great

It's not really as simple as saying "aye" or "nay" for each, but for what's worth I'm generally fine with most of the currently listed rules (since most of them IMO all go without saying, but they might be important as a warning for newbies and people coming from the IMDB  ).
The only item I personally don't see a reason for would be 4 (posting of graphic pictures), as long as it's nothing illegal obviously, since fair warning about the contents can and should be given on the thread subject as stated.
