Irréversible SE: Coming soon

Post by bradavon »

4th December 2006 - UK R2:

Weird I couldn't find an existing thread, anyway:

http://www.dvdtimes.co.uk/content.php?contentid=63121

Is this really as extreme/hard to watch as people say? I'm thinking so, not sure I could handle a 13 minute rape.

Would this make it the best version?

Yep but only for DTS. Next is the Canadian R1 (Korean has extras but is cut both have the same extras as here):

The Canadian R1 is on 1 disc mind you so the bitrate could be lower, why it needs to be on 2 Disc Mr. Tartan I'm not sure.

No it wouldnt be the best version, as we havent seen the dvd yet :D

Extras for this film mean very little, you dont want to watch anything like that after this film. But the extras on the canadian documentary shocked me to death! its amazing what they can do with CGI nowadays! truley sickening.

Its brutal and disturbing as hell! but worth watching thats for sure, just dont put it on for your granny. Brutal, and very evil in fact, yet wonderful and sweet at others.

Checked the cover, really liked the cover for the Canadian, and this is kinda of the same cover, just wished the showed it its full glory

yep the rape scene is quite disturbing, Only i think I spit on your grave and ending to Cannibal Holocaust slightly edges it out... Like Romero says it quite brutal.... not an family film

I presume it's a well made film? And not just trash like "I spit on your grave".

The Canadian DVD is instantly made garbage by the fact that it's PAL-NTSC converted. No more discussion of it is needed.

Have you seen I spit on your grave, okay the title is nasty, the other title "Day of the Woman" was much better suited to the movie, the lead actress goes from being a victim of rape to getting revenge... Her acting is really really good, and she is brave on being naked for most of the movie, but being very very emotion, to dismiss that and call that trash, i find is harsh.
It no different to Monica when she was acting

Nope the canadian version looks great, even if it is like that. It depends what it looks like, not the stupid specs.

Fair point I've seen awful NTSC-PAL conversions and some perfectly fine ones.

Still would I want to risk it? Nope.

I didn't know that thanks.

Nope and I've read enough people say it is trash (yours is actually the first nice thing I've heard about it) to not want to.

I find it almost impossible to want to watch a film with so much rape, it's just such a ghastly, inhumane and evil act.

I find it hard to believe the lead actress is as good an actress as Monica Bellucci.

Well glad to post a positive review of this movie ;), but to be honest I really wouldn't think Irréversible may be your cup of tea, the rape scene are not plenty, but they pack the same punch. Whereas I spit has 4 different rapes, each one did not take 13 mins, i think you could say all the rape scenes althougher took around 15 mins combined... of course the poor lead actress is beaten to a pulp, then you see the after effects.. Irréversible has is in one big go....

Yeah Irrevwersable goes wayyy further than I Spit on Your Grave, far further in every way!

Spit is a great film, if disturbing. Its far from trash at all, its acctually suprisingly good even if its main plot iof a little nasty. Its still nothing compared to Irreversable I must say.

Both are hard films to watch, but Irreversable has some sort of magic Mainstream veil over its face, if it were made in the 70's or 80's it too would have been banded in with the so called "Trash" mainly by people who have not even seen them.

Interesting Slasher says ISOYG is worse and Romero the opposite.

I'm not sure I could sit through either tbh but maybe Irreversible more.
